I've never done the false nail thing for similar reasons, one girl in a salon told me that they totally destroy your real nails and I'd be mad to do it, dunno if others here have had that experience? Haven't done false nails but a few months of Gellish wrecked my toenails. So brittle and dry.

Just wanted to add, no matter what your nationality trying to find a maid that is the right fit for your family can be so hard. A few years ago I spent months trying to find the right person. After interviewing I hired someone who never turned up then one who stored all her stuff at my house for a few days then picked up her things and went to work somewhere else! One of the interviews I did the woman turned up with three relatives in tow who sat all in a line and bombarded me with questions. Good luck!

You are right ahassan, nationality doesn't ensure anything but I think the vast majority of people generalise about nationalities to some degree. It can be based on stereotypes, past experiences or nothing at all. There is definitely the view among maids here that western families are easier to work for than non western families. I'm not saying that is right, I'm just saying how it is. Maybe when you are interviewing you could start off by saying you will ask questions first then they can ask you whatever they like after that?

....then don't buy any of their new Pana Chocolate bars unless you want to stuff your face with the whole bar in one sitting. Just polished off a nut one, hand on heart it's the best chocolate I've ever eaten (and I've eaten a lot of chocolate).

It's a two way street, a lot of people employing a maid want to know their nationality first too. With the questions, it might not be the best idea in an interview to bombard a potential employer with questions immediately but if someone is going to be living in your home, under your sponsorship then of course they are going to want to know about you before deciding if they want to put their life in your hands. With the current ban on Filipina maids reducing the number of maids available they can afford to be a bit more picky with who they work for. I'd do the same, no one wants to work in a job that doesn't suit them if they don't have to.

Hi Daza, I am planning to get laser hair removal too and this is quite the closest or most convenient location for me as I always do my shopping in MOE. Would you mind sharing how much is it? I am doing my Lycon waxing at Sisters Salon at MOE, and it's becoming more expensive now >.< I'm sorry itchysole, I can't remember what I paid. I got a six session deal from Groupon which made it a lot cheaper. After I had used all the sessions they sold me another package for the same price. If you give them a call they should be able to tell you if they have any deals on. It's really worth doing, so nice to always be beach ready! Also much cheaper in the long run than waxing.

I had them done once and loved how they looked but hated how they felt. I really missed that post shower and cleanse fresh faced feeling as it felt like I hadn't taken my make up off properly. I wouldn't get it done again.

Thank you Daza but I have decided not to bake it as I will be making the savoury for both adults and kids, so decided to get help for the cake. Hence the reason for not wanting to order more than necessary - [b'>to be honest fondant-covered cake is nice on the day of the birthday party but afterwards it just seems too rich[/b'>. Sivstet, so if there are 20 kids you would order a 2-kg cake to feed the accompanying adults too? I didn't think of that, not a cake eater! Good luck with the cake and enjoy the party :)

according to the daily fail there was a brouhaha with pushing from silver to gold and band left the stage for 1/2hr half way through the show? Yep, unsafe barrier. It wasn't nearly as dramatic as the Daily Mail is making out (no surprise there) but made for an even later night after the late start.

Everyone is talking about him on Facebook. He went up on the stage. Who is he? So confused. Was he the crew member they sang Happy Birthday too? Yes! Harry raffled him off and tried to take his shirt off. Definitely fit  ETA: And it's a pretty big ask to stand next to Harry and still look so good. edited by Daza on 05/04/2015

Of course we can expect more. It would not have been difficult to have toilets in several locations. I do expect it to take less than forty five minutes to get a burger. The Diamond car park was allowed to empty first before anyone from gold could even move their cars. And it was so dangerous with cars pushing out amongst pPoole walking down the road. It must be disappointing to not have a good time after spending so much money Scaralex :( Compared to some experiences I've had getting out of concerts I honestly don't think last night was too bad. It was smooth sailing compared to when I saw Eminem in 2003.

Rather than risk not having enough I always make waaaaaay too much. No problem though as you can cut it in to portions, freeze it on cake cooling racks, keep it in ziplock freezer bags then defrost as needed. Saves on baking later :)

I thought they were fantastic and put on a great show. A bit late on given the young age of a lot of the crowd though. Agree with you about getting out FairyDust, you really can't expect anything but a long wait with that number of people leaving all at once. The wait to get out was quite peaceful after all the screaming!

They are on the road that Lulu is on but on the opposite side, closer to the mall end of the road. There is paid parking on the street outside which is normally fine unless it's prayer time as it's opposite a mosque. I think there is also off street parking by the mosque or you can park in the Carrefour end of the mall and walk across.

I always go at 4pm when it opens and leave around 7pm before it gets really busy. There are crazy amounts of people there on weekend evenings so going early or during the week is easier. I never bother with the pavilions selling stuff, there is loads to do to fill a few hours without buying a thing. There is a military pavilion which is quite interesting, camels to check out, lots of shows on and a big funfair area. We normally watch a couple of shows, go on a few rides, have something to eat and enjoy the people watching. The shows this year are really good and there is a great falafel place. My children love it, I used to dread going but it's improved so much in recent years that I actually quite enjoy going now. It's well worth the 15 dirham entry.

Yes, 125 dirhams for a large bag of NPK fertiliser, it lasts for ages. Re-check with him how much sand he means, you need quite a lot and one bag wouldn't do anything unless your garden is the size of a beach towel! Maybe he does mean a truckload and it got lost in translation. The garden center on SZR is quite expensive but bags of sand at the Plant Souk out by Academic City are 5-10 dirhams each depending on which sand you buy. I find you always need more sand than you think.

A big bag of sand is not 500 dirhams, that is the cost for a small truck of sand. How much is asking for fertiliser? I pay 125 dirhams a bag.

I remember going through this when Robbie left Take That. All it meant to me was more expense, two concerts to pay for instead of one  It's a rite of passage to wail in despair over the break up of your favourite band! Watching my children I'm so in awe of their passion and enthusiasm for things. And I love the idealism of youth. They've got the rest of their lives to be old cynical and blase.

This is not meant a negative comment I'm genuinely interested to know... Are there grown up ladies here who are attending the 1D concert? I thought they were of a tween sensation. I know a few people who are taking 4 and 5 year olds to the concert... the mind boggles! Well at least mine does anyway... Why does your mind boggle Genie? I have taken my children that age (and younger) to concerts. It's something we really enjoy doing as a family, my children always have a great time (we would leave if they didn't) and it increases their appreciation of music to see it live. I only take them to age appropriate concerts and for festivals we all go together during the day, then we take them home and put them to bed and head back once they are asleep. For a concert like 1D it will be a late night for them but it's a special treat, not something we do all the time. And they will still be in bed a lot earlier than the numerous children wandering around the mall with their parents until closing.

I think there's something quite wrong when British expats vote for a party who plans to hike taxes on British citizens resident in the UK, yet they themselves have chosen to opt out of paying UK tax by living in Dubai. Not cricket. Not at all. do you think its ethically correct to vote in an election for a country that you DO NOT LIVE in or PAY TAXES in? I'm eligible to vote in NZ and consider it ethically correct to vote there because I plan on returning and decisions made will affect my life when I return. I wouldn't consider it correct to vote if I planned on never going back. edited by Daza on 22/03/2015

As Beebers has said I don't wish to take away from what others have said either but I'm closer to 60 and we decided before we were 30 years old that we really didn't think that we'd make good parents. The thing is, you see, that unlike a suit or a skirt you can't take 'it' back to the shop if you decide you don't really want 'it' or you don't feel 'it' suits you after all. I'm not being derogatory by saying 'it', I'm just trying to say that we really didn't feel that we'd ever be comfortable being parents, being people responsible for another person's life. [b'> Perhaps some will feel that we are selfish, perhaps that is true. [/b'> However we are more than happy with the decision we took nearly thirty years ago and neither of us has any regrets at all. On a lighter note - I'm approaching 60 but I really don't feel that I've entered "old age" yet ? I don't think it's selfish in the slightest to choose not to have children. What I do find extremely selfish is people who choose to have children then don't give them the love and support they deserve. Smartee, I have a number of friends who at 30 were undecided or thought they might not want children. 35 was a turning point and many of them started trying for children then. The only couple I know who were always 100 % adamant they didn't want children are now in their mid forties, child free and very happy.

DT - You are right to be concerned. Your instincts are correct. You should tell the Mother. Anyone posting anything about someone's children online needs to have that Parent's permission. If she does than so be it. Nobody should post pictures of children online without a Parents' concern regardless of wether they are a coach, teacher or housekeeper - simple. I can appreciate you being concerned about what is fair and unfair to the account holder but we are talking about children and an online presence. I for one am fanatical about my children's online presence. I know I would appreciate the opportunity to properly address the situation if someone were to post photos of my children online without my permission. ;) What about other parents? I post photos of my children's teams at sports tournaments etc and have never asked permission of the other parents. I've never had permission asked of me either but know others have posted similar photos with my children in them. I agree that if someone is employed in a role that brings them in to contact with children they should not put photos of them online without permission but where do you draw the line?
