If you tried to take a small child to an evening movie in NZ you wouldn't get past the ticket office! My family visited my brother in Switzerland a couple of summers ago. At 11am we went to a cafe in a park with outside tables for morning tea. They said they didn't do food until 12pm so we ordered coffee for the 4 adults and juices/water for the 5 children who were all aged 5 and under. The children couldn't wait an hour to eat so we got out handbag snacks for them. We were very swiftly told that if we wanted the children to eat their snacks to leave the cafe and go and sit on the grass and if we wanted the children to eat there to wait until they served food at 12pm. The children were expected to behave as the adults and wait.

The maternity packages at LH or CH just cover you for a set number of standard visits and tests, they won't cover any additional treatment that may be needed. For my current pregnancy I've had complications so have been seeing my private OB/GYN but I also got a package with LH in case of early delivery. The government OB/GYN I was seeing gave me copies of tests etc so I could pass them on to my private OB/GYN. There was no issue whatsoever with this, they are actually required to give you copies if you so request.

It depends what media you are reading. The UK media has been true to form and fairly sensational but reports I've seen from NZ, Australia and the US have been generally more restrained.

Have heard it's best to go to Rashid for emergencies? Rashid has an excellent pediatric unit and acute cases are likely to be transferred there but in an emergency close is often more important than best. If you are in the Springs, Rashid isn't the closest.

I stupidly sent my husband out grocery shopping recently. He got home and happily walked in, I asked where the groceries were and got a blank look back. He'd left the entire trolley of them in the carpark. They were gone when he went back. What a muppet.

A friend of mine said he has prior for domestic violence therefore it may of not been an accident Very sad The Sun is now reporting "But police said there had been previous incidents at the address described as “allegations of a domestic nature”. Brigadier Denise Beukes said police were “very surprised” by the burglar suggestion." Oh :( i had no idea, I've always thought him such a great role model. I feel a bit like I've just found out about the tooth fairy.

I remember when I had my first waxing, I was getting teased at school for my mo and mono brow, and my mum went in before me to show that it wasnt painful. When she started screaming I was out that door so fast and hid. I was embarassed that my mum knew such foul language as well!!!! Haha! I had an injection yesterday and was busy telling my watching 2 year old (who has jabs coming up) that it didn't hurt at all when then the stuff going in really starting stinging. I had to bite my lip and try to keep smiling!

Everyone's threshold is different...sometimes I think people possess such a fear of the pain, it just makes it worse. That being said, anyone that has their lip threaded is a glutton for punishment regarding pain!! Whyyyyyyy would anyone go back for seconds lol Yep, upper lip hurts! Yes Daza i agree but what if you had your children out at a lunch and one of them kicked off? You removed said child yet someone still complained about your parenting and based your childs behaviour on your parenting? That was more my point, even the best parented children can still misbehave, children are children and will never fail to embarass their parents at some point in their lives regardless, lol If that happened and I was in the process of swiftly removing my child and someone commented on my woeful parenting I'd ignore them and concentrate on leaving. What would be the point in getting in to an argument? I have every sympathy for parents who's children are kicking off as long as they are actually dealing with it. I've been embarrassed by my children on many occasions!

[b'>Even the best parented children mis behave at times![/b'> I'm so fed up with so many negative comments about children. Does everyone forget they were a child once? More tolerance and manners from all members of society is the way to civility. Babies cry, children cry, life goes on. edited by Lolacat on 14/02/2013 Of course they do! I don't think anyone is saying children should sit mutely at all times not moving. I think high spirited children are great fun (I have three myself) but there is a time and place for it. I take them to the park, I take them to the beach and we spend a lot of time in our garden where they can run around being loud and boisterous. However, in other situations, like in a restaurant, it's not appropriate for them to be running around being loud. They sit down and behave or we leave. I'm happy for them to get up and dance and sing in a children's movie during the day but I would never take them to an evening movie.

There will be a great 2 hour show or movie or dinner... however, the only thing that some of you will definilty remember AND bring up in this public forum is the crying baby who has not behaved for a few minutes. Is that too hard to deal with? especially in a country with a high rate of children? What is your definiation of a well behaved child? It's not possible for a baby to 'not behave', they are too little. If a baby is crying then maybe the parents should take heed of their baby's distress and comfort it and/or remove it from the situation should they be unable to do so. It's not fair on the baby and it's inconsiderate to everyone else around, I don't know anyone that enjoys the sound of a baby in distress. Do you have a baby or young children that you take out in the evening to movies, restaurants etc? If so, do you just sit there and do nothing if your child(ren) are disturbing others? How long would you let it go on for? 5 minutes, 10 minutes, the whole movie?

I've always found it's worth a trip to Satwa for a big stock up on ribbon and the like for crafts supplies. Cheap as chips and so much choice. There is an amazing accessory shop on the street bordering the main car park with the petrol station on it. It;s about 50 - 100 metres past the petrol station (walking away from the carpark) on the other side of the road.

I reckon having a small baby is a bit of a marriage killer TDB. Nothing like seeing your previously glammed up for work wife lying on the couch every evening in milk stained pyjamas with a baby attached. And that's even before you get to the matter of stitches..... I'm sure it makes them love us even more but inclined to romance? Maybe not ;)

That's really interesting mrsb, I wouldn't have thought they'd have been able to stand it - I suppose UAE chooks are made of sterner stuff than their NZ cousins which I am used to. I'd love to have chickens although our garden is in full sun all day and I just think it would be too much. Funny about your rooster in the rain, roosters are so full of themselves, it's no wonder we have the term 'cocky'!

That makes sense SM, thanks. We do the same, our maid's contract is renewed each April and during each year she has been with us she has had 1 months paid holiday, return flights (or money in lieu) and one month's gratuity. So yes, working 11 months and being paid for 12. Not working 12 months and being paid for 13. The wording of the officially contract still makes no sense to me!

I understand that SueB but it only really works if she is leaving. What if she is staying with you? The visa/how long she works for you with gets all out of whack because it works out at 13 months which doesn't fit in to a 12 month contract. In this case she is leaving so if she hasn't taken holiday in the year with the OP then she should of course be paid the 1 months vacation money.

Make sure that your carseat and stroller and moses basket are securely wrapped for going in the hold. They really get thrown about and it would be doubly gutting to have something brand new broken on it's first trip. Plane holds are rife with bed bugs which is another reason to have them properly bagged up. I'd probably get the moses basket plastic wrapped at the airport for this reason. I've always found baby stuff to be much cheaper in London that here so I'd suggest buying what you can there and bringing it back, no idea how well to judge what is 30kgs though sorry! Soft things like slings or carriers shouldn't weigh too much. I've travelled a lot with children and never had bigger baby items like strollers or carseats included in the 30kg limit, other posters might have a different story though. Are you travelling on your own with your baby? If you are you also need to bear in mind that you need to be able to actually manage all your luggage and your baby. You can't count on help, especially at the London end. Good luck!

That is your opinion but that is not what is written in my contract - it says "Second article: the second party shall be given [b'>one month paid vacation after contract completion. The second party may opt for a salary of one month in lieu of the month vacation.[/b'>." That is what my contract says too but it makes absolutely no sense in practice. The contract is for one year so if she works a full year with you then goes home for a month you need to renew her contract when the 12 months is up then wave her off a plane for a months holiday. We all know how often maids don't come back from their holidays and you've just wasted an entire contract renewal on her if she doesn't return. If she does come back then you get in the situation where her visa renewals don't match up with her actually working for you for a year and will fall behind by a month each year. Does that make sense? My about to have a baby brain is struggling to explain clearly! If she is transferring straight to another family after 12 months working for you then she will get the extra months cash but no holiday. Apart from the fact that everyone needs a break to recharge the batteries, chances are she'll start with the 'oh I got no holiday in my last job, I need to go home routine'. It only really works if the maid only comes here for the duration of one contract (12 months) then goes home for good (with the extra months pay tucked in her pocket) or goes home for the month then flies back to start another contract with a new family. Who will then need to pay the exorbitant agency fees to get her here. Or maybe that's the point....

Sorry to mention as I'm sure you mean well, but by the time you have to walk out, it's already to late for the other diners, spectators etc. To be fair to SkyKitty, sometimes a raging tantrum can happen in seconds - with my children anyway. Harmony at the table then all of a sudden my two year is raging that 'he took my green craaaaaaaaaaaayon' or 'there is bits in my juuuuuuuuice' etc etc. It can take time to pack up three kids and make an exit. As long as the parent/caregiver deals with it as swiftly as they can then I feel grateful they've had to sense to leave. Luckily, such sudden rages when out haven't lasted much beyond two in my children - and my current two year old is three next week.

I don't have kids and don't mind at all when they are around in "adult" areas, its not fair on the parents to be expected to be stuck at home or play areas only because they have children that they "cant" take out with them even if it is at night (I highly doubt those kids are out every single night and missing their bedtimes!) In fact I always find myself smiling and saying its alright to mummies who look worried or start apologizing when their kids start to act out.. its not their fault! I hate this whole kids must be seen but not heard business, even the most disciplined children will act out as do adults! I've seen as many adults making scenes and being loud and disturbing as kids are to be honest.. It's nice that you don't mind 2dogs although before I had children I was much more tolerant to misbehaving brats too. Probably because I didn't have them at home so didn't ever feel like I needed a break from it when I went out. If anything I thought it was funny - along with a smug MY children will never behave like that thought or two. Oh how wrong I was.

I agree with The Dangerous Blonde. I am tired of all of the brats here, and their awful parents who don't bother to do any parenting at all. So I see why people would want to go somewhere without having to have all of the obnoxious kids here around. [b'>This is the 4th country for me, and I have never seen anything like here when it comes to children[/b'>. And sadly, this spans across all nationalities. I have 3 kids, so I'm not one of those without kids who thinks they should all be banned. But I totally get people's frustration. My first trip back to my home country (NZ) with my children I was mortified when a waitress in a cafe told me off for not packing all the toys in the toy corner back in to the toy box after my children had been playing with them. I'm burning with shame just thinking about it and I certainly didn't make that mistake again.

I've got no problem with children as long as the parents deal with it if their child is having a tantrum or disrupting others. Yes, even in a family restaurant parents should remove their child if they are having a full blown screaming tantrum on the floor. It's totally inconsiderate to everyone else. I've had to pack up my three kids and make a swift exit when it's happened to me but I can't believe the number of people who just sit there ignoring it. I also don't want children running around my table shrieking and banging in to me, which has happened on a number of occasions. Parks are a different matter, the are the right place for children to run around making noise and blowing off steam. Although it would be nice if parents apologised if their child rams in to you on their bike. Amazingdxb, you said recently that your LO has reached 'that age' of being difficult. Do you really want to go out in the evening to a nice restaurant and a bit of a break from the whining at home to be subjected to other people's children unchecked tantrums?

Dirt? Chocolate (or your favourite flavour) ice cream in a dish or a small flower pot. Crumble oreo cookies over the top. Cut a green straw to length the push in to the middle with a bit sticking out the top. Pop a flower stem in the straw. You could top the straw with a strawberry rose to make a rose garden. It's a children's dessert normally but I know plenty of adults that love it. Not sophisticated at all but fun.

If you have children it seems to be the done thing to to let them loose on the roads in Al Barsha. No helmets of course. There are always lots of people quad biking in the desert about 10 minutes up Al Qudra Road behind Arabian Ranches.
