I've lived in the Ranches for over five years and love it. I find it both friendly and safe with a lovely community feel. The common area pools are great. It doesn't feel crowded or congested although if you need to leave from the back gate at peak times traffic does get bad. It depends where your husband works and where your children will go to school (if they are old enough) if you will need to use the back gate or the main entrance. It has excellent fast road links to much of Dubai so nothing feels far away. There is some construction going on at the moment next to Palmera and between Alma and Savannah so you might want to avoid renting a home bordering any of that. Unless you a right next to it it's not disruptive though. The shopping center is handy with a couple of nice cafes and a Geant amongst other shops. There is also a huge Spinneys next door in Motor City.

That's no good, hopefully he is getting ready for a last minute turn. Fingers crossed he turns soon. Last minute nerves have kicked in for me so I'm a bit anxious and just can't wait to meet him. I also can't wait to not feel so sick and sore all the time! Not long now.

Thanks ladies for your responses, That makes sense! The reason we were starting bathtime at 7.30pm was so that my husband gets to spend a little time with her when he comes in from work. He doesnt get in until 6.30 or so so if we were to do bathtime at 6pm / 6.30pm, then he would never see her and vice versa... :( That's tough Mmmmm, my husband doesn't get to see our children in the evening either and I always feel bad that they miss out on that time with each other. On the plus side, it makes the weekends even more special. Or maybe you can tell him he can spend some time with her when she's up in the night ;)

more than that, decent meat tastes better..... personally, the 70 aed chickens actually taste of chicken Well by that reasoning the 120 dirham chickens I buy from the Organic Shop better taste like queen chickens!

or just know the animals you eat..... something to be said for slaughtering your own sheep :) Very true. If I ever move back to my home country I'd love to have enough space to keep a few animals. Would much prefer to know that the meat my family eats was well looked after.

I[b'>sn't there a wider issue of what the food we eat actually contains? [/b'> I mean, the whole reason for the CJD outbreak was people not knowing what was in their food.... That is exactly the problem. Times like this make being vegan so worth all the hassle *tucks in to large crunchy salad for lunch*

Maybe get in contact with the Fairy Godmother Club? I think it was started by a poster on this forum. https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Fairy-Godmother-Club/171369332900368?fref=ts I agree with Feefmick, people would be more willing to help out than you might think in this situation.

No idea where is best for it but if I was having a no holds barred dreamy dessert fest I'd have baklava. Yum yum yum. I'd make my own and eat the lot. Good luck in the 1/2 marathon Ayzzy and enjoy your dessert afterwards!

I'm so insanely jealous! I'll have a new baby or I'd be there with bells on. I've been to a few things at Yas Island and think fan pit is worth it if you want to get as close as you can to the stage. It can feel quite a way back otherwise. I went to Metallica when they played at Yas year before last and they were amazing. Fan pit would absolutely be worth it for them. There are bars with plenty of alcohol. Have fun!

I like Carluccio's if I'm with children. Nice food, (generally) good service and a good view of the fountains. It's on the promenade so the children can get up close to the fountains if they wish.

1st baby: Back in pre pregnancy jeans within a few weeks although didn't lose the last 2kgs until I stopped breastfeeding. 2nd baby: About 5 kgs overweight for a year. Gluttony and sloth were to blame. 3rd baby: Back to pre pregnancy weight in about 6 months. Worked really really hard to get there, I didn't want a repeat of post baby number 2! Tummy is definitely the hardest part for me too tonti.

I agree with the other ladies, a sling is the way to go. It won't be long before your baby is past this phase and wriggling to get down whenever you try to get a cuddle! I've used a Baby Bjorn for my children, I found it easy and once they are big enough they can face outwards and see the world. I've always figured all the carting around is good for the post baby weight loss too! When you are putting your baby down during the day are you putting her in her cot? My fist baby refused to ever sleep in a cot during the day and would wake up and scream without fail no matter how fast asleep she seems when I put her down. If I put her in her buggy or baby bjorn bouncer in the room I was in she'd stay sleeping no problems.

Congratulations gilliannavarro! When I went I had my second baby my first child was two. I made her a book explaining where I was going and what I doing and where the new baby would sleep when we got home and that she was going to be a big sister and how much I loved her. We read it in the weeks leading up to the birth and my husband read it to her at home when I was in hospital. She's seven now and still looks at it! Another thing I've done is when my older children have come in to meet the new baby for the first time is I've had my baby lying in the cot so my arms are free to give them lots of reassuring cuddles. Once they've had cuddles from me baby comes out the cot for cuddles from them. I also bake a cake and blow up some balloons and we have a little turning zero party for the baby in the hospital room. Small presents from children to new baby and a small present from new baby to children.

The OPs maid can't insist on anything. She can of course choose to leave at the end of her contract if the terms of her job don't suit her. The OP needs someone who can be flexible with holidays due to childcare. If her current maid can't be flexible then it would be better to find someone who can.

Yes, you can insist that she takes her vacation when it suits you. Leave at employers discretion is part and parcel of being a maid, she will be well aware of this. It's not just maids either, I've had jobs where I've had to take my leave at a time to suit my boss.

The point of date night is that it's meant to be a nice thing to do for you and your husband. Therefore, if you aren't ready or don't won't to do it, don't! If your family really feels like you and your husband need some special time together on Valentines then maybe they could all go out and give you an evening home together just you two and your baby?

If they have children then it's not as simple as cancelling his visa and getting rid of him. He could apply for custody and it could get very very messy. She needs to proceed carefully and (as you say) speak to a lawyer before doing anything.

No problem with it if you are discreet and cover up with a pashmina or other wrap. I was very hesitant about it but was assured by a few local ladies that it was fine to do. If you feel uncomfortable there are often feeding rooms in malls. Or you can breastfeed in ladies prayer rooms.

Why would anyone have a full head of colour AFTER highlights? I've always had a full head of colour done then highlights put in afterwards, otherwise the colour would just cover up all the highlights. The toner goes in after the highlights to 'soften' the look. So unless I'm missing something then the salon in question has either ripped you off by charging for a full head of colour instead of toner after highlights or they have in fact done a full head of colour which makes no sense. Either way, their mistake and you shouldn't pay. edited by Daza on 08/02/2013

If you do choose to split her leave you don't need to pay for flights home twice. Her entitlement is for one flight home per year, regardless of how her leave is split. You can't just kick her out on the street when she is on leave in Dubai though. This might sound obvious but I know of one couple who don't allow their maid to stay in their home when they are away, she has to make her own arrangements. edited by Daza on 08/02/2013

My children are 2, 5 and 7 and I insist that they share their toys with two exceptions. 1) They don't have to share gifts on the first day they are given them 2) They each have a special soft toy that they have had from when they were babies that they don't have to share at any time unless they want to. My 2 year old knows that he is not allowed to play with his siblings special cuddly toys and he has to hand them straight back over if he picks them up without permission. I think they should be allowed one special thing that is just theirs. Obviously when it comes to toys my 2 year old wants to play with whatever the older kids are playing with, some days I feel like I say 'please share, or lose it' about 50 million times!

Actually, I think i prefer it to the other extreme of "all must have prizes....and it's the taking part that's important....and there is no winner/ competition is bad, because we mustn't upset those who haven't won..." culture. There you go....a TNT fodder... I agree SB, nothing wrong with a bit of competition. I also think there is nothing wrong with being proud of your children on FB if that's what you want to do. I find it a bit sad that people would be offended by people being proud of their children, sing their praises and watch them bloom. If anyone doesn't like it, don't read. I personally very very rarely gush about my children on FB (have a family blog for that!) but I find it quite sweet when people do.

Our main meal of the day is at 2:30pm. It's our family time and we chat, have a laugh etc. I eat much slower than DH but he always waits until I am finished before getting up. Evenings is just very light. Such as home made jerky, half an avocado and a boiled egg. TV is never on during meals unless it's at the weekend when we have our main meal at around 7pm in front of the telly on the sofa. How does that work WG? Do neither of you work or are you able to come home for lunch?

The construction leading up to the Golf Club isn't Alma 2, it's going to be Golf Villas which are very big independent villas and only a small number of them. I don't imagine they will impact on the clubhouse noise wise. Alma 2 is being built between Alma and Savannah on the land directly opposite Jess. It's between the road and the lake so unless the plans change, it won't have any frontage on to the golf course or clubhouse.

While your baby is so little could he cook dinner while you are giving the baby her bottle then sit down together after it? Or he could do baby's bottle while you cook? My children eat at 5pm - 5.30pm ish and I sit down with them then but don't eat. My husband normally gets home from work at 8pm - 8.30pm ish and we eat together then. When I say 'together' I mean sitting on the couch watching TV, terrible habit to be in but we are both normally shattered and just want to blob out. At weekends we eat together as family at 5.30pm ish. Way to early for me to feel like eating but I think family dinners are important when possible.

Good work getting to 36 weeks srdoucet! Fingers crossed for you that bubs holds on a bit longer. If it puts your mind at ease at bit, all the symptoms you've listed are pretty common for the last month of pregnancy. It's exactly as I've always felt, it's SO uncomfortable and it's gotten worse with each pregnancy. The first wasn't actually too bad but on my fourth now and I constantly feel like I'm about to go in to labour any minute. The pressure and cramps are probably the worst, especially as they have me running to the bathroom constantly. Anyway, I hope it's just late pregnancy ills you are feeling (as awful as it is), not imminent labour! Have you had the lung maturing injection in case you deliver early? I've had some complications and have had two previous c-sections so will be delivering at 38 weeks, I'm booked to get the lung injection next week.

It creates a black market whereby people can't be sure if the ticket they are buying is real or fake. If people only buy from licensed sellers then they can be sure the ticket is genuine. However, when people are buying from private resale they may well be buying a fake. So, they hand over the cash (often a lot of money), get to the venue then get turned away when the ticket is exposed as fake. Apart from that, it's REALLY annoying if you sit refreshing a webpage desperately trying to get tickets as soon as they are released, don't strike it lucky then immediately see tickets popping up on other websites for double the price.

Well done JPS1, glad to hear you've got it sorted. I have to agree with Oopsiedaisy and Neat-Freak though, you MUST get your brave knickers on and learn how to speak to your maid about issues yourself. Your working relationship will be better and your home will run more smoothly. In any job it's important for employees to see their boss as capable and in charge, problem will invariably come up if they don't.

We travelled with Air Berlin to Phuket last summer. Going there we had individual entertainment but coming back it was the old school one big screen up the front deal! Argh! We had assumed it would be the same coming back so hadn't loaded up with toys or charged the ipods to entertain our children (they are too small to see the big screen). Disaster was looming when a lovely lovely man lent us his portable charger. Anyway, just warning you to be prepared, not all flights have individual entertainment!

I don't understand why people are so reticent in speaking up when it comes to child safety on the roads. To use another example, if a child of someone you knew was regularly standing on furniture on a balcony, unsupervised, would people really say nothing? And if you did say something and was brushed off with a 'oh but he/she cries if I don't let them them' would people really do nothing further? I suspect if that scenario was posted on here posters would be far more likely to suggest calling Al Ameen or the police. Yet when it comes to car safety, there seems to be a none of your business attitude. The majority of car manufacturers still recommend that babies in capsules/children travel in the back seat regardless of whether the airbag is off. Yes, in some modern cars travelling in the front seat is deemed safe but this needs to be checked on a year/model basis. In the UAE this is a moot point regardless as it is illegal for children under 10 to travel in the front seat. There is often talk on here of respecting the laws of the country we live in etc, why the different attitude when it comes to this specific law?

isn't that what it was before lol? According to DH anyways - not that he's right all the time (that's my job :D) I know people who have gotten 95% mortgages so it looks like your DH might be wrong! It's being discussed that the threshold for off plan properties will be a lower percentage, it's meant to stop people flicking properties.
