There was an unwritten rule about no long hair after 40, it's still adhered to by those that wouldn't dream of wearing pastels in autumn. No way my hair is getting the chop at 40, my old hairdresser used to tell me I have a mermaid complex :D

DH just said he's heard they've back-pedalled on this 50% mortgage thing Yep, now the talk is 75% mortgages for expats and 80% for locals. Which seems much more reasonable.

I can't help with hotels in Patong sorry but if they feel like checking out the nightlife elsewhere for one night I can highly recommend Catch Beach Club at Surin Beach. They do an amazing buffet on certain nights and have great dj's. It's got a really chilled cool beach vibe during the day but at night it's meant to be fabulous. I was always back at the hotel with the children by then but judging by the empty bottles of champagne strewn everywhere when I went for my early morning massages on the beach, things certainly got lively!

But isn't the fact that you fear the altrnative also a reason to try? I think the comment on this board that you MAY regret not having children but you DEFINITELY won't regret having them says it all really. Why live a life of regret? Once children are part of your life, the maternal instict kicks in. I've known two people that have had children because they felt they 'should' but have regretted it :(

Daza: I'm also delivering at American. Who is your Dr? Mine is Dr. Raj. Dr Tazyeen, she has her own clinic so isn't a staff doctor there. I've only ever been to her so no experience with the staff doctors at American. The last time I delivered at American (3 years ago) the food was terrible! I spent yesterday getting the freezer stocked with meals for my husband to bring in to me in case things haven't improved.

I'm all about the science so I remind myself (over and over) that this is how their brains are wired at the moment and they can't help it. I regularly read articles reminding me of such. If I can't keep calm I leave the room for a few minutes. Plaster a smile on and say 'Who wants to listen to Justin Bieber or 1 Direction for 8th million time? Suggest timed laps of the kitchen/living room circuit of the lawn. Or a race. My kids love it and it calms them down. Sometimes all else fails and I scream then feel awful and look longingly at a bottle of tequila.

Is she a child at your school? Could you inform the school is so? If you have told her I don't think there is really much else you can say. I'd be inclined to tell her that if she crashes her daughter won't be getting upset and crying anymore because she'll probably be dead....

She shouldn't have been leaning on the car and hopefully it will be a lesson for her but the driver (a grown man) should not have touched her. Gave her a good telling off/shouted yes, laid a finger on her, no. I'd be furious if a grown man laid hands my teenage daughter. I'd be furious with her too for not respecting someone else's property but a grown man should know better than to touch her.

I've been on the VIP terrace the last couple of years. Not sure if all the chalets are the same but there was a buffet which was nice. Seats to sit down. Quick easy access the bathrooms. Quite a long way back but elevated so a good view. VIP valet parking, easier and closer. I haven't been general admission so can't compare. If I like who is on I normally head in to the main crowd for some of the time for atmosphere.

It's the BRAT diet, Bananas, Rice, Apple sauce, Toast. After a few days of a tummy upset babies can become lactose intolerant so make sure you aren't giving him any dairy foods (milk, cheese, yoghurt etc) and continue with the soya formula while it lasts. How long has it being going on for? At eight months if it has being happening for a few days I'd take a stool sample to his doctor for testing just in case he's picked up a parasite.

A few posters have equated not wanting children with being selfish or having children as being willing to put others first or being selfless but I totally don't see it like that at all. Isn't wanting to replicate your genes the ultimate form of narcissism? Yes, you put your children first but on a biological level it's to ensure continuation of the species, no different than any other animal. I'm not trying to take away from the warm fuzziness and all encompassing love of parenthood but I don't think it's fair to think someone who doesn't want children is selfish. I certainly don't see my childless friends as selfish at all. Anyway, I'm about to have my fourth baby so by my reasoning I'm a narcissist in a pretty big way :D

The thing that really makes me upset and worried is that even with a good and healthy snack, he comes back home and keeps asking for sweets although we are about to have tea with food he really likes! Now he is playing smart trying to climb to access the sweeties jar and take scissors to open them. I tell him there will be consequences if he does not listen to me. Try not to get too worried or upset about this oreo. Some children just have more of a sweet tooth than others. My two oldest children are 5 and 7 and my 7 year old rarely whines for treats or tries to sneak sweets yet my 5 year is always at it. I don't think it means that he is 'bad' they just have very different personalities. I know it's natural to do so but try not to compare your 5 year olds behaviour to your oldest child. You need to try to deal with his behaviour in a totally different way than you would with his elder brother. I know how difficult it is, like you, I find my 5 year old much more of a challenge than my 7 year old but I try really hard (and sometimes fail) to not make his behaviour appear worse by comparing it my 7 year old. I've recently read 'Raising Boys' by Steve Biddulph and found a few really good pointers in there.

This might sound dumb but if you celebrate it, how do you see your Christmases? I always imagined Christmas surrounded by my children, with stockings hung and treats out for Santa. I love that this is now my reality for Christmas. However I have friends who don't want children that love their grown up Christmases or are happy to spend it with family and find the company of their nieces and nephews enough.

I'd say that if it's on the cards then get medical insurance to cover all bases. It's possibly not the best analogy but I don't plan on getting seriously ill but I have medical insurance to cover me in case I do. What would you like your life to be like 10 years down the track Crispaholic? Where do you see yourself?

I know quite a few couples who have been at the stage and they have all dealt with it by stopping contraception but not (initially at least) actually trying to get pregnant. They have all either gotten pregnant within a few months or not gotten pregnant but decided it's what they would like so have started actually trying. Does that make sense? The couples I know that don't want children have always been very sure of that so no decision to be made. Would a pros and cons list help?

I would also rather a maid drew my attention to out of date (or imminently out of date) items in the cupboards (fridge is a bit different) rather than throwing them, as so many things are 'best before', not 'poisonous after' and if you eat them a couple of days after their 1 year or so lifespan will still be fine. edited by sandfly on 03/02/2013 Funny you bring that up, I keep 'best before' items for ages past their date and our maid regularly points out things that have gone past their date and always looks vaguely horrified when I say to leave it, it will be fine.

Do you pay for her accommodation or is that her responsibility? If not, as the other posters have said, you aren't giving a generous package. Our maid is live in but I much prefer to do an all inclusive package rather than allowances for this and that. She gets her salary every month and she pays for all her food etc out of that. If you aren't paying for anything else I'd increase her salary by 500 a month all in.

If a mortgage contract between us and our bank isn't worth the paper it's written on then I highly doubt that any private contract between you and your maid would ever make it to court. Everyone's hair falls here. I was using bottled water only. There are several products developed specially for this problem here in the gulf. Boots .pharmacy stock them I'm really lucky, it hasn't happened to me. Not sure why, I've always taken a skin, hair and nails supplement to maybe that helps. My hair was very dull and dry so I got a shower filter which works wonders. I was at the hairdressers the other day and the lady washing my hair asked if I was new to Dubai. When I said I wasn't and asked why she said because my hair was so thick and normally women have thin hair after they have been here a while!

It's great that you have taken some action on this Gorobattie. It's easy to come on here and moan about things but do nothing so I think you are to be commended for actually doing something about what you saw. It's good to think that there are people out there looking out for other people's children when they are on school trips. It makes me feel better about mine going on trips :)

I don't think teachers should allow strangers to take pupils photos on a field trip. No, no and no again. I'm not that bothered by people taking photos of my children when they are with me but if they ever shy away or feel uncomfortable then I tell the snapper to stop immediately. I'd be absolutely livid if if a teacher ignored my child's discomfort at having their photo taken. And then to encourage it by saying it will make him famous? Like who, Paris Hilton? Great role modelling. Anyone's children been on a trip to the aquarium recently? About what age were the children Goro?

At aged 2 I wouldn't swap breast for bottle. There is no need for a bottle at that age and you'll just have to wean him off the bottle at some stage if you do. My last baby was younger, 15 months when I stopped breastfeeding and like Lilli34 said, it's not pretty but it only took a week. Although it was an awful week of both of us sobbing at bedtime! If my husband was home from work he did the final lights out which helped.

Oh that's tough nikkid. My children had a horror run of illness about 18 months ago and it was awful. Once their immune system is compromised it's much easier for other nasties to get a hold and the whole cycle starts again. If you frequent a community pool I'd suggest staying away from there for a while, they can pick up a lot from there. You need to help build her immune system up again, google foods that are good for helping with this. She'll need probiotics to help build up the good bacteria in her gut after all the antibiotics. As long as she has no stomach upsets give her actimel or something similar. if there are tummy problem go to the Organic Shop, they have soya options or supplements there. I'm a big believer in the power of good food and get a weekly delivery of freshly picked organic vegetables. Because they are so fresh their nutrient levels are at a peak so they do the most good. My children's Dr told me that children here get on average 50% more infections here than in the UK. The upside is that once they are through it their immune systems are great.

Caps are justified! You know Emaar, if there is space, stick a house or 200 on it. On the plus side, once it's all over (if you can hold on that long) there will be a new community center and school.
