If my children's safety was compromised once I'd give a serious warning. If it happened again I'd fire him. Some things just aren't worth taking the risk over.

I don't know where you can get verruca socks but thought I'd share a tip I got off EW that got rid of my verruca in less than a week......banana skin. Thought there was no way it would work but gave it a try as I was pregnant and couldn't use anything from the pharmacy. Cut a small square off a banana skin and place it over the verruca, inside of the skin against the verruca, cover with a plaster or strapping tape to hold in place and leave on overnight. Less than a week doing this every night, voila, verruca gone.

Hi JustJust Unless things have changed in the last couple of years, home births are illegal in Dubai. You must give birth in a hospital. People still do birth plans. Not sure on any induction rules.

It's hard to keep up with how fast medical advice on this issue changes! When I had my first baby in the UK in 2006 you'd practically be burned at the stake for starting solids before six months. Roll on two years later to when I had my next baby and the six month rule had been downgraded to a general guideline. The American Academy of Pediatrics currently advises between 4-6 months is about right. http://www.healthychildren.org/English/ages-stages/baby/feeding-nutrition/Pages/Switching-To-Solid-Foods.aspx

All babies are different DCC, there isn't any 'right' amount. My first baby had no solids at 5 1/2 months, the next two had varying amounts at that time. They are generally pretty good at letting you know, if they don't want it they'll spit it out.

I have no experience with Dr George but have had Dr Mirza for a few scans and highly recommend him. I'm very nervous at the big scans and he always makes me laugh. I find him very thorough and reassuring.

I really like the food and atmosphere at the Madinat Rivington Grill. There is also one at Souk Al Bahar but I haven't been there for a while. I don't eat meat but my husband always raves about the Beef Wellington and it does look great. You'd probably spend more than 500 - 600 AED for two with wine though. Prices are on their website: http://www.rivingtongrill.ae/

I'd forget the idea of her going to the Philippines and coming back on a visit visa, it sounds a bit dodgy, as far as I'm aware she can't come here on a visit visa. This was certainly the case a couple of years ago. When our maid came over from the Philippines we found her privately but had to pay an agency to bring her over. It cost a few thousand dirhams. It became illegal a few years ago to do direct hires from the Philippines. Again, not sure if things have changed. If I were you would you I'd contact the Philippines consulate as they will be able to advise you on current laws and you can proceed (or not) from there. I'd also check that she is actually here legally. Being on her cousins sponsorship sounds a little odd. edited by Daza on 17/01/2013

thank you Daza, I will try to place 3 seats but I doubt I can do it (Audi A3) If your oldest is big enough for a booster, the BubbleBum is very small. http://www.sandypants.com/shop/BubbleBum/by-age/4-6-yrs/BubbleBum-Portable-Car-Booster-Seat/

didn't really want comments like this. we are expecting the 3rd baby and can't really afford new can at the moment, in Europe is allowed by law, just wanted to know if it is allowed here. But surely if it's dangerous you'd rather know so you can do your best to have your baby as safe as possible? What sort of car do you have? I can fit three seats across in both our cars. You might need to try out different seats but can hopefully find some to fit. Other posters on here have mentioned 'slimfit' seats, maybe another poster can recommend.

It's dangerous for an adult to sit in the front seat? I've heard emergency services in NZ refer to the front passenger seat as the 'suicide seat'. Evidently (I've never actually researched this myself) it's position in the car makes it the most likely seat for serious injury or death to occur in.

My standard answer - Trader Vics or Rivington Grill at the Madinat followed by dancing at Jambase. Traders Vics a bit more lively and good with a big group. Rivington Grill if a smaller group or couple.

If you are having reservations about nursery have you considered paying more for a nanny that speaks good english and having her take your daughter to regular activities during the week where she can interact with other children? I'm not saying this is a 'better' option than nursery, that's a decision only you can make but just thought I'd offer an alternative.

It depends if the completion date of the year works for you. Our maid started in April but it didn't suit us to have her take a month off in April, she takes her leave over summer. So she got her leave four months in to working for us and has taken her leave every subsequent summer since. Obviously it wouldn't have been great if she'd decided to leave after six months of working for us as we would have ending up paying her for a months holiday during only six months of work but luckily that didn't happen.

I think it's fair enough if you have her leave coincide with when you are on holiday but most maids (nannies, helpers, whatever) take their holidays in one block during the year so they have the option of going home (taking their yearly paid flight) during this time. If she doesn't want to go home then it's money in lieu of flight. I don't think it would be fair to break her leave up in to small chunks whenever you are away as it wouldn't give her the option to go home for a decent break if she wished.

If he'd admitted to it long ago then people would have moved on by now. It's been his repeated strenuous denials in the face of such overwhelming evidence that have kept the matter in the news for so long. Hopefully now he has admitted to it (if indeed he has) then the matter can be put to rest. I'd be pretty keen on seeing him proved guilty if I was one of the whistle blowers who he'd been calling a liar.

At the risk of sounding a judgmental old trout, I was appalled when I heard about the iPotty. Yet another way for people to avoid actual interaction with their children. I also find it very odd the amount of times I see people out for meals with their children who spend the whole time playing on the iPad. What happened to talking to your children?

I don't head straight for the doctor either Pipititimous. Obviously if the fever was very high and/or they were very distressed I'd take them in but otherwise not. I don't give paracetamol for a fever either unless they are miserable with it. The fever has a job to do so when possible I don't treat it.

A1984, your option 1 won't cover all unforseen emergencies. The hospital packages just cover the standard things. Any emergencies needing extra treatment will cost you over and above the standard package. The government health card doesn't entitle you to free treatment. If you go to a government hospital in an emergency you will still be charged. The best government hospital for pregnancy emergencies is Latifa however in order to guarantee treatment there you need to be registered and have a pre natal package which costs 5000 AED. If you aren't paid and registered and they are full you will be sent to another government hospital, whilst still good won't have the same specialist care as Latifa.

It sounds like she's not ready so maybe wait and try again when she is showing signs of wanting to do it. If you try to force the issue you'll just create problems. It's pretty irrelevant at what age other children potty train as they all do things in their own time. It has nothing to do with being clever or not either. Most children I know potty trained between the ages 2 and 3 although some were earlier, some later. The best thing you can do is stop putting pressure on your little girl and let her tell you when she is ready.

Some of the C@@p i have been spouted here by medical professionals is hilarious Same here. A few of my favourites: My husband being told the eczema on his arm could be MRSA. Antibiotics precribed. My nearly one year old having conjunctivitus diagnosed as 'most likely chlamydia in his eye'. When I called the doctor out on talking BS he said 'it normally comes from the mother' with a meaningful look. Antibiotics prescribed. My two year old having her low weight attributed to 'not being up to date with her immunisation schedule'. It was (the doctor obviously couldn't read either) and the two aren't related anyway. My couple of months old EBF baby being called 'bordering on obese' and might possibly need to look at dieting. This was from the same doctor talking nonsense about my daughter's low weight. It was a routine visit, I wasn't even there about their weight. Obviously I've never been back!

Guess the number of jelly babies in the jar - the closest wins the jar. Like mushypeas says, Words of Wisdom is a great one. My friends did it at my baby shower. They had a card each which they wrote their advice on and I've still got them over 7 years later. They are funny rather than helpful as none of them had children at the time!

I think a lot of how your skin reacts to pregnancy (stretch marks, stretching etc) is down to genetics. Although no matter how fabulous your genetics are I don't think your tummy skin is ever exactly as taut it was before pregnancy. It all depends on the elasticity of your skin. I'd suggest such taking a skin/hair/nails type formula and/or eating foods rich in vit e, sunflower seeds, almonds, spinach etc. Do exercises specifically to strengthen your core, yoga and pilates is great for this.

Great to hear things are getting easier! One more thing I just thought of, no idea if this actually works or not but to help my children sort out their day/night rhythms when they are young babies I've always done day time sleeps with the curtains open so the room is light.
