Thanks for the responses. Fujeirah Immigration may be difficult, but that still does not explain why Creative City whom I am paying for PRO services is rude with me and blaming me for their delay? They straight told me that if I do not like it, I can terminate my company license with them. It is disgusting really. Moo, thanks for your email. Mum 786: get your visit visa extended asap!

Big Red is a quad bike rental complex along the hatta road. you just drive about 20 mins, and will see. it is close to fossil rock, and also that is the place where safari tour companies enter the sand so it is lined with souvenir shops and compressors to inflate the tyres. they always have a few animals there for the tourists, and i think you can also ride them.

the bab al shams camel ride is less than 5 minutes, but you have to pay 400/ person for the dinner so not sure if this is good value. i do not really know any camel ride places, but heard big red has some, on hatta road, maybe call them.

a) you have no choice, but use it, anyways. b) this is what we were arguing about, bm suggests that rashid is the bestemergency hospital, others disagree., bm says they always take you to rashid, we think you can chose. i think we overdiscussed it by now.

Oh lordy. There is also an interview with some Palestinian astronomer doing the rounds, except he claims there will be a natural disaster in 2015 which will destroy America (N & S) and Europe. If the vulture tabloids aren't printing it I don't believe it; if there were any evidence to back this up it would produce killer sales for them and they wouldn't miss the story! actually he is right, as far as a total financial crisis of the dollar, the collapse of the european union or the euro are considered natural disaster...

actually two 1. shall i order it from uk or usa amazon? i prefer usa, but will the charger come with usa plug?? I will use it here. 2. will the 3g function here at all, if i order it from uk / usa? any specific recommendations regarding registration etc? thanks a lot Why not buy it here? Is it much cheaper otherwise? I bought one here a few months back, the 3 G, and it was about AED900. Thinking of buying a second one so you've got me wondering now:-) it is 189 usd on amazon, so under 700. with shipping still under 800. but i am afraid the one bought here could not access everything and would have been modified to censor whatever is against the cultural values and monitor my activity etc...?

Yeah, you keep them and when your child is about 14 and wants to drink coke, you bring out one of those sweet little teeth and put it in a glass of coke. Check it 24 - 48 - 72 hours etc later and it should hopefully put them off drinking coke for life. ;) LOL!!!!!!

I guess they assume you may have worked with other modelling agencies before and hence have images of your work. I would just email them the truth, tell you do not possess such but happy to do demonstrations, you can bring friends as your models. It is better than a pile of hurried photos. Meanwhile you can start arranging a more professional one, but that will take time!

I don't know how any concept like that could ever be universally accepted. It is way too complex and the universe is constantly changing. because you cannot live in a constant denial. there are many loosely proven concepts that we accept, you or me. einstein by the way had quite solid proof, not a loose one.

:D Maybe it is different if you call the ambulance from your home. But if it is a car accident then it's Rashid. there is a new insurance comparison website, insureme.ae haven't tried yet but maybe it gives a clue? just tried out the site, it is rubbish. 1. it does not always tell you the insurance company's name, just like "international insurer" 2. it does compare prices, but you cannot see the benefits in comparison, you have to go one by one, which isn't efficient. so not an apple-to-apple comparison. 3. basically it encourages you to call them for clarification. it appears to me that this site is not independent, just a stunt of a broker/ insurer. i am sorry that i mentioned it here. just to add: i have seen this website in today's The National newspaper edited by dentro on 23/09/2011

thank you speena, this is what I thought, but had no personal experience. anyways, i am sure that the 999 people/ the ambulance doctor are reasonable and do not drive you around town if you can get equally good assistance closer.

Because you said that the ambulance would take them to the nearest emergency.....it wouldn't, it would go to Rashid... PS you can call 998 for an ambulance directly, though 999 will also get you there... :) ok, maybe, but as you said they are the best equipped anyways, so why are you just dismissing my post by saying it is wrong? as i said i never needed an ambulance, so not sure what happens after you call 999 and the ambulance arrives, but the OP asked what to do in an emergency, and the plan is "call 999" which is not incorrect. anyways, thank you again for correcting me.

yes. call 999 and they send an ambulance who will know where the nearest emergency hospital is. if it is not that serious, there are 24h emergencies at emirates hospital (beach road), welcare (deira), american hospital (oud metha) etc sorry.....that's wrong. All 999 calls/ambulances go to Rashid Hospital, which is the best equipped hospital in Dubai to deal with any emergency... 999 is both the police and ambulance. i called it a few times when i needed police (fortunately never for ambulance). why would it be wrong??????????? edited by dentro on 23/09/2011

...seriously, why when someone asks a question we have people who trot out the old "why can't you take care of your own children. Maids make people lazy. Why can't you clean up your own mess especially if you dont work"blah blah blah. Sure there are people who have the maids take care of their kids and they are not all expats. I am a non working woman and I have a cleaner come in. I could spend my days cleaning and organizing, cooking etc but I dont want to. I hate Ironing and am not good at it. I can always find better things to do that do my house. It is not dirty, maybe a bit dusty lol...my clothes and husbands clothes are clean, my kitchen gets cleaned but does not always sparkle. When the cleaner comes in, at the end of the day, the house sparkles, clothes are ironed, floors are washed. that makes us both happy and we can afford it. If a mother who works and has children needs help so be it. Many moms in Canada have some kid of helper be it baby sitter, nursery or after school programs. And..my gosh, we also have cleaners lol....so stop with the puckering of the lips and let us get on with it lol... that is all ok, but the OP's question was how she could possibly AVOID having a maid as she actually does not want one.

there are ways how other countries / our mothers solved the baby sitting problem without maids. like asking the neighbor. here hardly anyone introduces themselves or talk or invite over the neighbors. we no longer "ask for the missing ingreadient" from the neighbor when cooking. or help out eachother. why is that? just an observation.

I have an old schoolmate who is now getting married in Toulon. She is French. We were not that close in the past 10 years and I cannot go to her wedding, however would like to send a present. Is there any online services to send a gift and what would you recommend? I was thinking of a big box of nice chocolates, like Patchi here, is there something like that and would this be a good idea? Thanks

It was very considerate of you :( As a new parent at school I was truly unware that I was not allowed to enter the car park from the left! Perhaps it would have been nicer to have come and told me in a quite manner, rather than shouting and screaming at me through the car window!! Wouldn't it be nice if people weren't so quick to judge. there is only a tiny chance that she reads it here. why do not you let it go, forget it, and spend your time with something else than ruminating on it. you turned incorrect, she overreacted, and what. tomorrow is an other day.

i would not do anything. if you tell her, apart from what amy says (she may not believe you), you also play away your maid's trust, next time she may not tell you confident information. having illegal second cleaning job is not as a big crime as murder or prostitution or robbery. it is actually not illegal at all in a lot of countries. so i would just do nothing, it is not my life, let them control theirs (the other madam and the other maid).

1. safety deposit 5%. plus if you went through an agent they will charge 5% of the annual rent. try to negotiate that down. 2. depends on... less in winter, much more in summer. 700-1500 aed cca./ month 3. go there with passport copy and rental contract copy. done in 15 mins. they mail you the bills (may take 3-4 months to get the first one), you can pay online, or at any petrol stations, or through your bank, many ways. 4. depends on bandwidth / cable package. check du and etisalat websites/ offices (in any big mall). depends on if your mobile is paid by your employer or not. landline 15 aed / month + usage, cable cca 200 aed / month internet cca 200 aed/ month 5. dragon mart good luck edited by dentro on 17/09/2011

bought a kindle for husband last xmas... son downloaded hundreds of books on it for him, hes never used it !!! now he says he doesnt like it he prefers a book when he has the time to read. its so annoying. i am not sure if its easy to use and as i love reading paper books, if i use it will i like it I must be missing something here... You've actually *got* a Kindle with hundreds of books on it, but you're asking on here if it's easy to use and if you'll like it? Call me Mrs. Thickie, but since you have one in your possession why not pick it up and actually try using the thing? Isn't that the best way to discover if it's easy to use and whether or not you like using it? I could understand the point of this thread if you didn't actually have one and you were trying to decide whether to buy one or not, but seriously... come on! :\: my very exact thoughts!!!
