Seeing the sunshine made me happy. Like every day! Seeing my blooming desert roses made me happy. The touch of the cold side of the pillow when I turned over in the morning made me happy. I decided years ago to make an effort to notice the everyday beauty. Happiness is a mindset.

A few years ago - when I last checked- Dubai Municipality / Ministry of Tourism had strict regulations in place forbidding any animals to be accepted in any hotels or serviced apartments. This may have changed, but if not, then there will be none.

Do you think it would be worth to ask your husband? I am sure he can ask their hr or just other cabin crew about salaries and housing. If he does not already know.

If the last salary is less than 7000 hence they cannot deduct, you will need to pay extra for them. They may let you work until you can pay back. Or may just call the police. But if they even gave advance on your coming salary, that means they are nice people, so surely they will give you some time to be able to repay. Probably they won't release your passport until this is done though. Maybe you should wait with resignation to get some money together. Enjoy your new job. Hopefully it will last longer!

If you signed it and there is no contradiction with the labour contract, it is valid. If you signed. The training is not necessarily a sit down formal class, it could be a day-to-day on the job learning, that for sure you got. Your colleagues and boss spent extra time to explain things to you and respond your questions, their time is money. You may have made some mistakes here and there, and was slow at first, that also costs money to the company. It is also not very professional neither fair to leave a job after a few months unless it is a real disappointment. Also may not reflect well on your cv, that you change your mind that often. It is frustrating to the employer that certain staff is leaving if a few hundred dirhams more is offered elsewhere, after they spent all this time with patiently guiding you in the job. And believe me, there are girls who are switching for just a few hundred, not considering anything else. I get your point but if I want to leave and it's legal, then I will leave. Is there anything in uae law that says companies can't take training fees? I think the company is trying to pull back the visa charge but calling it a different name. It is legal to make you pay for training fee if you leave before an agreed time. Not just here, internationally. Even big companies. Like emirates pilots pay a fortune if they leave early after being trained by emirates. Same for nail technicians. Any jobs.

my current employer is pretty awesome in terms of giving me a 25% increase right after they found out about my divorce In case you have a colleague at work in similar position, equally hard worker as you, who now earns 20% less than you just because she is not divorced.... Can you imagine how badly she feels? How unjust and demotivating this is towards her?

What are employers thinking? Employers think that the salary they pay should be proportional to the knowledge, efficiency and performance of the person. They do not think that they should reward an employee more just because she decided to have children, compared to an other who does not. Having a children will not make the first one perform either better or worse ( actually, sometimes will be worse....), hence she will not produce more, hence nothing justifies spending more on her. This is the competition you face: there are similarly capable candidates who do not have children and happy to live in a one bedroom only. The employer will think that it is better business for them to select these candidates. This is what employers are thinking. And what I think is that no one forces you to live here. If your home country provides you better savings, or any other country does, and if that is primary importance to you, there are many flights every day... edited by dentro on 25/02/2014

This idea is bad on so many levels... Reflective fabric... Does not exist.... Lightweight fabric.... Take 828 meters length of anything, won't be lightweight.... Supported by the mast.... Cannot... It is not engineered for this extra weight Support seems to be a large circular frame, large enough to fit the tower base in it.... Such a large structure is... Very heavy.... How can they call this person a "think tank"? What defines a "think tank"? OMG....

I have no school aged kids hence no experience with this, but I read your posts horrified - schools these days tell parents what to feed their children and fine them if not? I believe this would be really bad. It is giving up freedom and not only submitting our children to some kind of unconditional full obedience training that schools these days offer behind their prison-safe doors and fences, but even letting schools dictate what to feed them. I had a few years when I was a child when I had some ... These days you would call it disorder... Those days it was just "too picky with food". My parents tried their best. Sandwiches, fruits, veggies, yoghurt, cheese, milk, fruit juice.... Talking to me, nicely, harshly, every way. I brought back home everything, almost untouched. I opened them, but always felt a strange smell or strange taste, that I could not stand to eat. I could not eat anything but chocobiscuits. No joke. For about 2 years, I refused to eat anything at school but chocobiscuits. I ate proper breakfast and dinner at home, so my parents were not very concerned, and it eventually passed and I turned out to be a normal sized kid with normal brain activity. I am just so glad that the school did not try to tell my parents that they were bad in parenting and penalize them for giving me chocobuiscuits for two years or to take away my beloved chocobiscuits and force me to eat "healthy way". ( once the teacher tried, I was crying hysterically all day. I still remember, big drama.).

You only need an abaya, no need to cover the head. Buy a cheap one, what's the point of spending money or time on it. You just need it to wear on the street and public places, but you will probably not go to many places especially if you are alone. Buy a "big shirt" type rather than the ones that open on the front, so you do not need to worry about wind blowing it open. Make sure the length is ok, I tripped over in mine various times, painful. If you are not used to it, it is a hassle.

There is nothing scary or intimidating. You just felt like that because you are used to hear bad stories of police in your previous country or other places and did not know how they are here. I only had very positive experience with dubai police and have been here for 10+ years. They are very helpful, just, unbiased, practical thinking. I discussed it many times with various friends and I could vote that public appreciation of dubai police is the highest amongst all countries. I even had friends who ended up detained and even they said police was treating them as well as possible.

Hi Nandita. Not sure what is your problem really... You want to quit your job. Do it. You do not want other job, you want to be on husbands visa. Do it. But even if you wanted to work, your ex employer would give you NOC to lift the work ban (if any). So you can have an other job. So what is the problem? edited by dentro on 31/01/2014

Ok, so if no agencies then I will try to advertise. Admin, can I place an ad to classifieds or is it also the "part time hence illegal" category? I would assume this must be similar as gardeners, they are also only come once or twice a week, yet not illegal, correct?

Their receptionists are quite ... Frustrating.... I called them about two weeks ago: - Hi, my name is dentro, can I book a massage, is it possible today at 6pm? - No, we are fully booked. - I see, when would it then be available, any days this week, around 6 pm or 7? - Mam, can you come today at 6pm? That is next availability. -ehh...uhhh...yes, I guess so. You mean today? At 6? - yes.

(who actually still uses soap these days?). Uhmmmm... I am! I have been all my life. I do not like shower gel, never liked it. My favorite soap is l'occitane verbena Shea butter soap, but also love snowcake by lush (seasonal product) or the fig soap by lush. I lost quite some weight and everyone was amazed how firm my skin is considering how saggy it should be with all that weight loss and I am not young any more! Many, including my doctor and skin therapists agree that it is probably due to the fact of using soap, hence "massaging" and exfoliating my skin harder over the years than those who use shower gel!
