Recently I've seen people on Facebook sharing a link to a video that shows a man in Mexico decapitating his wife's head for cheating. It's unreal what people would post and how it goes viral instantly. The video is "popular because the man conducts this act really fast and the woman is hardly screaming in pain. It's so sad to see and know that things like this are going on around the world. :( Surely I have different friends on fb, none of them posted such. But why do you talk about it if you think no one should? You even dedicate a thread for it...

Salmon are fish that swim thousands of miles - obviously they can't do that in giant tanks Except, yes they do... Think about it, they're still swimming thousands of miles, they're just doing it in a smaller area. You could walk or run a thousand miles on a treadmill in your house and it would have the same effect on your body as walking or running a thousand miles outside. It's not the same. The tanks are small and cramped with so many fish, they not swimming against currents or jumping up waterfalls in rivers - zero comparison. That's like comparing a cross country runner to someone who hobbles along. edited by FairyDust on 30/11/2013 There can be a current artificially, similar to a treadmill, they just swim against it but do not progress ahead.

It is all very confusing. 1. I have a 4s bought in the states. Using it with os6. I am using it with etisalat sim and keep switching my UAE AppStore and usa AppStore. I have FaceTime on, working well, regardless my location and account settings. 2. We have an iPad 3, bought here in virgin. Have os7 on. Using it with UAE AppStore. Have FaceTime, always had it, working. But cannot get usa AppStore access.!! 3. Intend to buy an iPad air. UAE online applestore clearly says it has FaceTime on. I am confused.... Hence asking if recently anyone bought iPad from UAE applestore and was successful.... There phone line is off today...

I don't actually see the point of the article or understand its motive. Is the bottom line to succeed in Dubai you have to support the illegal fake market and be chavy? I think not. Anyone who knows anything about designer goods can spot a fake a mile off! Work hard, put luck on your side, have a great concept and Dubai can give you the opportunity to make a dream come true. Fully agree. There are people who think others will favor them based on their apparel and gadgets and cars, but they are dead wrong. Dubai is full of opportunities and I can state with confidence no opportunity has ever closed itself from me just because I wear no watch, jewelry, have cheap bags and drive normal cars. On the contrary, no one cares.

Is it any wonder some children find it so hard to settle into school with all these days off???? It's crazy! National day has been a celebration day for ages. Why is it crazy? National days in other countries are also school holidays.

Oh brilliant! Some of the websites I checked insisted that the billing and shipping address should be the same or at least be from the same country so it's good to know that there are several websites that do allow this. Thanks! You can uncheck "same address" and type in a billing address that differs from the shipping address. My experience that 95% of any online shopping works with shop &ship. Signing up is a one off fee and very affordable, I see no reason for hesitation.

It can be relet immediately (by the new landlord). Actually the old tenant may agree with the new landlord to stay in, but the rent will be a new rent, not tied to previous agreements with old landlord.

if you can't handle the driving circumstances, stay in the quiet areas. This is horrible to say but somewhat true. Being scared will increase the risk of not acting reasonably in an unexpected situation. :(

Well some people wanted to turn this into a nationality issue. Shall we continue with that? It's good to see that the Dubai police recognise fatalities are clearly caused by Australian, US and British drivers and because of them sticking to the rules of the road and not being 'good' enough drivers as shown in this article... Oh wait... http://www.7daysindubai.com/Dubai-traffic-cop-hits-shocking-death-toll-roads/story-19803055-detail/story.html And just as I said earlier, "The number had been decreasing since 2008.” Hence using 2005 figures will not do justice.

Yes I do drive, no I was not driving at the time. Creating your own lane is one thing, although there is absolutely no reason why I or anyone for that matter would ever 'need' to create an extra lane to go straight on. But I cannot believe some people think cutting across oncoming traffic then purposely driving down the wrong side of the road weaving in and out of oncoming traffic before cutting back and blocking the road at a main junction corner until someone let him into the front of the queue is acceptable driving practice. With attitudes like this I wonder is there any point to road signs, traffic lights, lanes or frankly having separate sides of the road. Perhaps we should just abolish it all and just have a big piece of tarmac and destruction derby? And with some of the responses here I am not surprised the UAE has some of the highest road deaths in the world. Some 118.5 fatalities per 100,000 motor vehicles, as a comparison the UK is a mere 5.1. To put this into perspective that statistic is one death per 844 vehicles against the UK which is one death per 19,608 vehicles. So in Arabian Ranches for example if you average two vehicles per property and approximately 4000 properties you can anticipate almost 10 deaths per year. That's ten mothers or fathers or sons or daughters, ten lives wasted, ten families destroyed. The UAE has 310 deaths per billion km travelled against 3.6 in the UK that is 100 times more than the UK statistic, frankly quite terrifying. So for those of you that think bad driving is no big deal and who want to live in a country where the driving is shocking and wish to continue to put your children's lives at risk on the roads every day then I can only say you are fools. I will continue to do all I can to try and improve the conditions on roads here to create a safer environment for everyone. Which means driving as safely as possible myself and reporting bad drivers to the police to try and get them off the roads. The Wikipedia data you have quoted is from 2005, there was serious improvement on this since. The data by itself also misleading, for example in saudi it is only 86, does it mean that they drive safer than residents of the UAE? Or does it mean women should not drive!?!?

It has always been 2 dec but two years ago they changed it officially to a two day holiday, 2 and 3 of dec. The ambiguity this year comes from the fact that 2-3 is mon-tue, hence it may be expected that the official dates could be 1 and 2 (sun-mon). I guess we will only learn it when announced. But 2nd is off for sure.

To the OP: I would not report him, just get over. Today is a new day, do not waste your efforts. Drivers like him make you a better, more cautious driver, who is more prepared to the unexpected, and reacts better in such situations. I became a much better and safer driver since living here. I also became a driver who follows the rules less, like all of us... We slowly lose the routine of indicating if no cars are close etc... Do not be judgmental, one day you may need to create your own lane.

Seen it yesterday in Meydan IMAX, many of the audience were kids, some not more then 10 years old, with their parents. No one seemed to have a problem to get in. The content is really not more harsh than any Disney cartoon... Actually it is less harsh than what part 1 was. Big screen is great, except half of it is concealed with 4 lines of text (2 Arabic, 2 French - is there anyone in this country who can only speak French and does not understand neither Arabic nor English??????) Not sure which theaters are strict about kids but I (and the whole audience...) heard a baby crying at a 10 pm movie in dubai mall, that was outrageous, tell me why.....

So the copy that I have was given to me only to scare me... Amazing what employers do! This is very standard practice here, to have two contracts. This is because the contract the labor ministry accept for labour permit and visa processing does not allow / did not allow much flexibility, and many times there are additional mutual agreements in between the two party, which cannot be included in the set official format. All the companies I worked with, most of my friends, my present company, we all have two contracts. You have to sign both ( and you did sign it, if you have a visa) Generally the first one ( not the one submitted to labor) is more detailed, but usually there is no contradiction in between them. The visa expense sometimes comes into the first contract (rarely), also usually you have less working hours (38-40) in the first contract than the one submitted to labor (48, as per law). If you got any salary increase, your submitted labor contract may not be amended. Usually people and companies respect the first, more detailed contract. Unless you are owed wages and ready to burn bridges so you raise a complaint, in which case labor ministry will protect you, based on the submitted contract. Just make sure you do not lose other benefits in the process. I fully agree with rose, had bad experience with Staff who changes their mind based on where the wind blows an additional 10 dirham note from, and resign not considering the money and TIME and EFFORT employers invest into paperwork, temporary accommodation, applying and canceling medical insurance, training, getting customers familiar with the new staff, etc. If someone is not happy, then yes, change. But what made them accept the job at first place? Was it not obvious what to expect? Did it really turn out that different? Sometimes people have no reason to change, they just want a change because all their friends are jumping jobs like crazy, too. Back home my friends usually spend 10+ years at jobs. It must be boring, I agree. But I wish it was in fashion here, too. I still filter out cvs that have too many jobs in short time, but it is harder and harder find cvs with steady 3-5/years per company background. Very sad, for both parties.

Start her employment visa process, get the pink copy. That is when she needs to exit the country and reenter via an airport. Fly her to muscat or Kish with the pink copy and an immediate return ticket. Make sure she gets the stamp on it when she enters. Done. She can go to medical, apply to emirates id, and get the sticker to her passport.

Actually you do not need to have the title deed. They just need the plot number, and that is written on title deed. But it is also written on the affection plan, if the landlord has a copy of that, or you can just call the developer / facility manager and ask them. My landlord did not have the title deed either ( they have to pay 2% of the purchase price to land department to get it, so they try to procrastinate it until they plan to sell the flat), and I called the developer to figure out the plot number, advised by the clerk who tried to process my ejari. I got the number and it was sufficient. There are actually 2 plot numbers, and they need both. One is by municipality/ developer, and written on title deed, the other is by dewa and written on your dewa bill. He will need both of these for the ejari. Good luck.

I have not tried Ted Morgan, but been a few times to salon ink. It is overrated and overpriced. They are also arrogant, knowing that if I do not like their way, they get other customers instead of me easily. I believe EW contributed greatly to their popularity, at one point this whole board was in awe about them, actually that's why I tried them too. They charged me an average 1500 aed for short hair cut, highlights, wash and dry. (Normally I pay 450 -600 in town for the same) I guess after you fork out that money regularly you feel you must love it. Well, I did not. It was as average as any Lebanese hairdresser's in town. Some of the tasks are done by Philippina trainee girls, no better than in any salon. I do not think that they registered how much they could thank to EW for their popularity. Ted Morgan may be good, but watch out, the power of EW may destroy it, as it did with salon ink, deepak tailor, various men with van, various handymen and gardeners. Too much inquiries and they drop level of service.

Hello ladies. A few days after this thread, I bought a phillips airfryer in hyperpanda for 600 aed. I used it 4 times. I have found that it is actually a mini oven rather than an "oil free deep fryer" that I was expecting. Online reviews rave about French fries made in Airfry, so while I do not eat any potato, I thought it would make my cauliflower and meats tasty too. Unfortunately this machine is only really good for French fries, the rest of the stuff only comes out as good as from the oven, only a bit quicker. I love the design of it though ( mine is black, very sleek), but my worktop is small... Finally I bought a traditional deep fryer and the two of them take up my whole kitchen top... I would like to sell the air fryer, if anyone interested, as I believe I would not use it much. Asking 300 aed. I throw away the box, but have the instructions booklet and original invoice with1 year warranty. Email to [email protected].

These things are usually written on the contract. However, standard terms are : 3 months notice from landlord on rent increase, 2 months notice from you on moving out. Increased rent shall not exceed the mount shown on rera website rent calculator. For extension, try to contact the landlord directly, why to involve the agent and pay his %? The landlord should buy the contract form in "typing" shops, few dirhams, both of you sign it with witnesses, then you take it to post office to get "ejari certificate" (rear registration). 160 aed. Done.

Dubai Cv to include date of birth, color passport picture, citizenship ( as per passport), marriage status, visa status ("on visit visa" if you want visa from your work, or "dependent visa from daughter" if she arranges it for you)At education, list your degrees / certificates / training with year obtained and place of study. At work, again, list employer, country, duration, job title, list of tasks / responsibilities / achievements. List all software you can confidentially use and list languages you speak. Try for 2-3 pages total. Have your dubai mobile number on it and your email address on it. "Hiding" age does not help, just wastes the time of both the candidate and the recruiter - at the end of the day, if they want a twenty year old, they will employ a twenty year old. This is the approach here. Recruiters may be flooded with admin candidates, unless you have high level PA to CEO or similar expertise. I suggest directly approaching hr departments or trying for friends network. edited by dentro on 25/08/2013

It is definitely easier to find a job when you are here and available for interviews in person, especially in admin field where competition is high. Basically a must! I would come as soon as possible. In 3 months the weather will be nice, it is easier to have those interviews with searching for the place in less hot weather :). The economy is picking up now, there could be options, although you need to be lucky. You also ideally need a job with good medical insurance, as individual insurances could be astronomically priced as age goes up. ( this however could be a deciding factor from the employer side, too, if it is a small company. It would not matter for a big organization). The other thing: talk to friends of friends - many times personal recommendation for a job means a lot, some of these admin jobs are not advertised (the fear of dealing with 1000 cvs emailed in response!). I wish you good luck, your plan is workable, I wish my mother would have similar mentality!
