I have never heard anyone here driving themselves rental vans. I am not sure if this is because it is so affordable to include a driver ( and moving crew) or this is because of regulations. I know you need employer's noc to buy a Chevy/Toyota etc urban truck, as it may enable you to do some side business.... So maybe vans cannot be hired? Not sure. Best if you ask some bigger rental companies, I would try hertz, as they are huge, and diamond lease and Europcar, because I frequently see their logo on buses hired for staff transportation.

I agree fbj, while probably it was a "weak" decision from the hiring manager or hr to put her in this job, this is a wonderful opportunity for her to grow into this role! Companies, especially big companies, are slow to realize lack of skills, by the time they would notice, she can master it and be perfect in her job!!! This happened to me once when I was promoted premature into a role where I expected support that never came. I wanted to transfer back to my old role when I realized as I felt lacking some skills! but then decided to give it a shot and looking back, I am happy that I did. They say, you learn quickly how to swim if thrown into deep water, but learn never if never exposed. Wish the very best to your friend, it could be a great opportunity! The first and most important step is to be conscious about what she lacks. Some people are unaware of their own weaknesses, they are the ones who will not succeed. If she knows what she needs, she can work on herself, pushing her own limits, widening her comfort zone.

Sounds like you need to buy a second air fryer! How does it do with frozen stuff? Like fish fingers out of the freezer?

They became quite arrogant in that salon, I had unpleasant experience there too. I guess they are making more than enough money so do not care. If you leave them new customers would replace you, who believe they get way better service than elsewhere as the prices are higher.

There is an other one called Neocitran, the european version, basically the same ingredients, same powder type sachets. I have not seen it here, but I have not searched. I am still using the box I got from Germany. It tastes quite pleasant, like a hot lemonade.

I do not think that this forum helps you. I think you know what it means to be a single mother, after doing it for 5 years. If the money is above 12,000 + schooling, you could make it work. Good luck.

I think life would be very difficult for you financially even with a good package for the simple reason that at 25 you're not going to really be earning much anywhere as a kindergarten teacher. But that aside - what would you do for childcare? Its something you are going to need at some point. How will you cover it? edited by DesertRose1958 on 09/08/2013 She said the kindergarten provides school fees and medical care to her daughter. edited by dentro on 09/08/2013 However it is a good question why does not the kindergarten select someone else who is single and therefore cheaper for them... There are many qualified 25 year old teachers.

I have aTeacher friend who makes awesome money and she loves it, so I guess that depends on. Otherwise I do not know her salary or the industry average. You are 25 so almost a fresh graduate, i guess salaries for your grade are nowhere high. But I know you will have no cultural problem by being single mom. There could be need for some extra papers ( no objection letter from father or death certificate or similar). Companies can only sponsor adults above 18 years. Thanks that's very helpful I was quite concerned I may have problems he has given his permission but only verbally as yet, we are both on birth certificate but she has my last name will I need written permission do you know? Yes I believe you do need it. Ask the HR of your new company, they must be able to advise you on the procedure and on the content on the written consent. I had single mother friends in this country with little children. So it is certainly possible, 100%. edited by dentro on 09/08/2013

May I ask what type of job are you looking for? What field are you? What qualifications you have? In certain fields you can do 3 days only, but yes, have to be very lucky to find an employer who offers flexibility.

It is a very tough decision. However, if you and your parents invested time and money of your education and career, you should not let it go either. The longer you wait, the more difficult it is to get back to senior positions or well paid intellectual jobs, as you will compete with same age people who will have more experience. All the best.

Sorry to ask but... What is the problem with letting them keeping it in the hold? You would get it back as soon as you step out of the airplane, it is taken out and handed back to you. You cannot use it while on board during travel, anyway.

My outdoor dragon mart plastic-rattan sofa is over 4 years old and not a sign of detoriation. My outdoor dining set is from garden center, was expensive but I loved it, was very unhappy to realize after a few months that it is not from teak but from some cheap white wood, painted. It is only 1.5 years old but looks worn out, even if I treated it with recommended outdoor polish. edited by dentro on 03/08/2013

It really depends on the size and quality she is aiming! For example, a nursery for 30 kids in two groups with 4 staff cost about half of a nursery with 60 kids in four groups with 8 staff, isn't it? If your friend is lacking such basics maybe she should not aim to operate a nursery. As for legal expenses (registration, visas, insurances, etc), after she does her research on exact cost, I suggest to multiply everything by 2 in the budget. This is to cater for "surprises" ( oh we need an official Arabic translation of that paper,..... Oh she needs to leave the country and reenter on the new visa.... Oh the visa did not come through in time, she needs to fly out... Oh there is a new labour ministry charge.... Oh landlord has an outstanding empower bill, what to do, you either pay or no AC...). This is from experience!!

Seen some knitting crocheting etc stuff in magrudy's Jumeirah, again, may not be cheap. You will definitely find beads and ribbons and machine sewing supply in Satwa or bur dubai where all the fabric shops are. No good cheap hobby store in dubai though, I bring items from abroad or order on amazon.

(*thread title possibly a little too dramatic*) Well, that is an unfortunate custom on this forum, to over mysticise things in the thread title. People think "have you ever seen" would bring more readers than "where to buy toilet brush", which is true, but then when people open the "have you ever seen" thread, they would be just plain disappointed seeing the toilet brush question. I reckon both thread would get the same amount of response, regardless of number of views. Similarly, the OP could have stated in the title "possibly thunderstorm in dubai" and then express her amazement in the first post. A more straightforward approach. Anyways, good to hear that storm is coming, we have never had such in early August I believe, in the past 10 years.

However, I did hear that for women they started requiring an noc letter from your visa sponsor ( work or husband, as applies). For omani visa. Step backwards, isn't it.... Can someone confirm if this is true? edited by dentro on 03/08/2013

Help! We are going to Oman tomorrow for a 5-day holiday. Our car is insured for Oman but we have lost the Arabic letter of permission. Of course the insurance office is closed until Sunday, grrr. Can anyone give me some really clear guidance on how to purchase Omani car insurance at the border, as all the info I have is 'next to petrol station' but where is it, and does anyone have up to date information on how much it costs? Do they even check these days? Last year we had a hired car and had all the necessary documents, and they did examine the documents. Thanks for any help! I would call their 24 hour claim helpline, maybe they can email a copy. If not, I would try with your existing papers at the border. If not, just buy it at the border. It is obvious, you will see it once there or ask the officers.

While we are on the topic of Oman Insurance Cover, I had a question I hoped someone could answer. We are new to Dubai and our car insurances both include GCC cover including Oman. What is the Arabic letter of permission the OP refers to? Would having a certificate of insurance with you which states the territorial limits of the policy extend to cover Oman not be enough? This is the first I had heard that we would have to produce documentation. If someone could shed some light that would be appreciated The insurance company gave it to you with your policy papers by default. If you kept them together, you have it.

Hi we are shortly leaving the UAE and would like to keep our UAE bank account open for a few weeks until we get our affairs sorted. Our visa got cancelled earlier this week - does that technically mean that we can no longer have a bank account here? I know a number of people who still have theirs open. There will be no problem.

I had this issue when I was larger size. I bought the marks and spencer just above the knee length shorts, they are at the underwear section, with all the shapewear items. They come in black, nude and white, some polyester material or similar. They are actually very nice, not too hot, when you wear them. That was the ONLY thing that helped. Anything shorter would roll up badly. Anything lacy material would create a rash as my skin comes out at the holes and still chuff. I do not really believe in these bands, but real user's feedback would be appreciated. My mom and sister still suffer from this issue.

I witnessed many companies making staff redundant on immediate notice. Meaning that by the time you walk back to your desk, your computer login is disabled. No warning. There is no law requiring any warning or any justified reason for termination.

Actually there is no such a thing as "redundancy pay". In both cases of resignation or redundancy, you get the pay for the notice period as per contract, plus the leave days not taken, plus gratuity. The only difference in between redundancy and resignation is the way how gratuity is calculated, if you stayed for less than 5 years. Above 5 years no difference.

If it is unlimited contract, then it depends on how long notice period you had in the contract. If you have the standard one month, then you get one month of pay. If you have 3, then 3.

Let's say for the sake of argument, that you (the OP), is a smoker and throws cigarette butts from the balcony as that seems easy. You think no one would notice anyway. Scenario 1: Then one day you see a notice from building management on your doormat. You are about to throw the circular away, but you quickly read it. it says: we request all tenants not to throw cigarette butts, as it is forbidden. Scenario 2: one day someone is ringing your bell. She is asking if you are a smoker because she is looking for such. She has a small plastic bag of your cigarette butts and a brand new ashtray. She is saying (nicely) that she is your unfortunate neighbor and the winds are such that all your butts end up at her balcony. She keeps on cleaning it herself. and she looks at your eyes. She suggests that you use this ashtray, if you are a smoker. Which scenario would you act on more likely? edited by dentro on 13/07/2013

Or, instead of taking away all dangerous objects until one day somewhere he is finding one and being completely new to it, harms himself; just explain over and over the principles of "not to touch" "because it is too sharp/hot/etc" and "because I said so". Discipline and education can do wonders and prepare our kids to be stronger adults. Overprotection can result in accidents.

Abaya is odd. Wear jeans, with long sleeved turtle neck top, and a short beach dress on top of it. Then a loosely put shawl on your head. That's it. If you have a longer shirt, that's also good. Local wear is "manteau", which is a thin coat, long enough to cover hips. edited by dentro on 22/06/2013

These would come in handy when stuck in Dubai traffic jam! :D I believe urinating on the street is illegal, for men too. At least I have never seen anyone doing it in dubai, which is also a thing I love here. I don't miss the homeless bunch pissing at trees in parks, with kids playing around.
