Ok. So I met with the teacher and I was very impressed. She told me that DS is a very bright student and has so much in him that sometimes he gets bored and starts to misbehave. The other kids in the class have started blaming him for things that go wrong because of a couple of small incidents. So not so serious after all but she has offers us some great solutions and has said that she will be separating him from a particular boy as there is always trouble. I think that the pressure may be coming from his classmates. I am quite relieved now as he also came home tonight with two stars and looked much happier. Maybe the little trip down to the gas station last night and the threat of jail..hehe has sorted him out. I will be keeping a close eye thought to make sure he is ok

Your post struck a chord with me Derien as 7 was the age i turned 'bad' I actually stole a gymnastics leotard from a girls bag in the schools changing room. I was never going to get away with it because this particular girl had ALL the coca cola badges for her acheivements whereas I had none :-( I am the eldest of my siblings and I think it was an attention thing, my dad was away for months at a time with the Navy and my mum was over-worked with my younger brothers, she went mental with me for stealing and this confirmed to me I was 'Bad' and I went on to be really naughty at school till I was 10 and went to Boarding School (where I flourished into a happy, bright girl). Looking back I can see that the triggers were there, home life was chaotic and my mum very unhappy and not coping with a 7 YO, 5 YO + Baby. Everyones situation is different, but if my daughter ever starts playing up to similar extremes, i will be doing just what you are now, extra loving attention and speaking to anyone who may be able to shed some light on the causes, best of luck . Thank you. I appreciate this. I am planning on asking my boss if I can work part time for a couple of months ( pay in line with hours of course) to deal with some personal issues

Dear Derian: I am not a child psychologist, however I was a therapeutic foster parent for ten years in the USA, and I took my kids to therapy three times a week and did daily therapy with them at home. Most of these children were victims of abuse. I'm not saying you son has been abused, but these are warning signs that we watch for. Withdrawal, sudden behavior change including outbursts, sudden shoplifting or stealing behavior, food issues, unexplained or exaggerated anger, etc. I would take him to counseling right away. (Personally, I would take him somewhere away from home, just the two of us and talk to him face to face. I would tell him that you love him no matter what he has ever done or has ever happened to him. Tell him that you won't let anyone hurt him, and that no one will hurt you or your family if he tells you his secret. It could be a simple fear triggered by a new story or tv ad. Or it could be that something has happened and he is afraid or ashamed to tell you.) If he won't talk to you, take him to a counselor. The sooner you reach him the better. This acting out is a way to bring something into the open that is hidden. It's the only way kids know how to reach out when they are deeply upset. ONCE AGAIN it could be something simple. Thanks Guiness. I do work full time but I spend as much time as possible with the kids to the point that I neglect myself and what I want to do. It is over compensation on the weekends and when I get home from work. I do the snuggle thing at night but not all the time as I have a 4 year old that needs my attention too at bedtime. I have spoken to him and he is not all that coherent but from what I can understand, it all gravitates around the school environment. He HATES school this year. I am going to keep and open mind going into the meeting today but I hope it is not one-way... Your son did this and your son did that. I will challenge her. <em>edited by derien on 16/10/2011</em>

What's your point? I was just saying that THERE ARE good Indian curry places in Dubayy Where? I am always so disappointed when I eat Indian here. You get all the worst cuts of meats etc and the Butter chikcen in always discusting. Please where can I go for a good curry?

Paralegal role usually pays between 18 - 20 AED per month for full time. 32 hours is 80% so you would be looking at about 14-15K for part time work.

. It's not worth it exactly - so why be so mean! Yes I did leave on good terms, well as good as it gets when it's a one man band - the smaller and more personal the employer, the more they take an employee's notice as a personal slight in my experience! Reference? Possibly, possibly not! Sad thing is I met up with him over the summer for meetings on several occasions, he knows all the circumstances regarding my DD's health issues - the consultants we've seen, the medication costs involved, and he asks for this paltry sum (for him) back! True but what if things were to turn nasty over this? I mean, he is obviously a ****. You need to be the better person and just return it. And when you do, make sure you make them feel guilty

The ones at DIA, they pull right up outside the back entrance and swing the doors open and let all their children out in the middle of the passage way while endangering the lives of others who are crossing. I just honl my horn so hard now when I see it because the school does nothing about them!

We are really careful with AC, water & lights and our bills keep going up to. I can understand the need to subsidise the local population to prevent social unrest but giving subsidies on Dewa is not the best way to do it, imo. Already you see so many huge villas with all the lights blazing and blatant waste of water. These measures are not going to encourage people to be more conservative in their use of water and electricity. The local population already have so many advantages - just look at the need to still have a local sponsor outside a free zone. The budget for education is huge but it seems it's not achieving the results as level of education among local school leavers leaves a lot to be desired. Where's the money going? Local are encourage to have large families and you wonder how parents can dedicate the time to give each child the care and attention needed. So many issues and the answer is not just to throw money at the problem. Money is better than education. Keeps people in ignorance

I understand your frustration IAMVP. A bit off topic but I decided to stop at Kitch in the DIFC to buy a capcake this morning ( yes, I know total splurge but it is Thursday) and asked the guy for a latte to go with that. Latte's are 24 Dhs so about $6.5. I then see him open a new milk carton and begin to pour into the stainless steel jug. Me: Can I please have fresh milk Him : Yes, mam fresh milk Me. It says long life on the box Him. yes Fresh milk Mam Me. No, it's not fresh milk. It's Long Life . PLease can I have the other milk Him. This the only Milk mam Me. Forget it. I'm not paying 24 Dhs to drink long life milk Seriously, It IS all about the profit mentality here <em>edited by derien on 06/10/2011</em>

English as the language of communcaition , INCLUDING many at the RTA. Actually that is incorrect - the language of communication at RTA is Arabic - all communication coming from RTA is in Arabic, including emails. edited by Princess_I on 05/10/2011 Princess I. I know that the official language is Arabic but many who work there are not Arabic speakers. Hence whay I did not say Official Language of communication.

I think you are well within your rights to complain if you can't understand the language that the instructor is speaking to you in! ****** ridiculous! In France you only get spoken to in French, as is the case in many countries. How absurd to demand to be spoken to in a foreign language. Hardly the same thing. France is not an immigration-seaking country. Here, a healthy % of the population speak English as the language of communcaition , INCLUDING many at the RTA. So no I don't agree with you. Tell her that she needs to go to the doctor and that you will take her for a blood test because you don't want her to pass on whatever she has to the rest of the family. If she has had relations she will freak out and maybe come clean. If she is pregnant, I would suggest you keep it quiet and put her on the next flight home

And doors that open automatically :-P *snort* to the automatic doors...what about automatic taps at hand basins? The amount of times I have stood at a sink in a bathromm in another country waiting for the water to come out...doh! :D I think Dubai gave my children a bit of a germ phobia though...they are disgusted by the thought of having to operate the restroom taps themselves. lol Yes, mine have strange looks on their face as well when we go back to Swiss and the taps dont turn on when they put their hands under :)

I dare to say that Mariana may even be a male poster as her views of what role women should play in society belong in the 18th century. I work, I have two kids. I CHOOSE to work because I know that god forbid, if anything were to happen to my husband, we would be in huge difficulty, particulary in this country where women are still considered objects. My kid's future did factor into my decision to continue my career as I know that I provide for them, both financially and emotionally. NO, I am not a parent that "lives to work" either. I have balance in my life and I give all my free time to my family. As guess what, my kids respect me for working and are actually very proud

I don't mind errors but when you are living in a 4 bdr home with little grass, no water leaks and no pool and getting 5.5K per month bills and the meter is apparently working as per Dewa standards, you have got to ask yourself the question. There isnt a ban per say but it is getting very tricky to hire from certain countries. Bangladeshis need all sorts of paperwork from their own Ministry to leave the coutry for foreign employment.

I feel a bit sorry for Desert Rose - her letter reads to me like she's trying to convince herself more than anyone. Who knows, perhaps her kids are growing up and she is staring down the barrel of years trying to build an identity for herself outside of her role as wife and mother? Filling the time until she can become "grandmother" and drive her daughters/ daughters in law crazy with advice and criticism. Most sensible mums know that there is no black and white answer to the work/ stay at home debate, just what works best for you and your family. LIKE, LIKE You just described my MIL
