OP, I had planned a totally narural birth, doula, read Ina May all the rest, but sometimes the best ladi plans don't come about. I did not want to be induced for my own reasons. I had a caesarean at the Corniche in AD. The caesarean procedure was fine and I felt like I was in capable hands. The anesthetist wouldn't let my husband in for spinal block, but he was there for whole labour, they placed baby on my chest as soon as extracted for as long as we wanted and my husband was able to announce the *** etc. At this late stage, you would have to go and register at the Corniche, and suffer the extreme frustration of that place though - so I don't know what is more important for you. Your tolerance levels might be better than mine, but it nearly did my head in dealing with the admin there. Also afterwards was noisy and busy because of a shared room with someone and their 8 children, maids, mobile phones etc. Can't you just go hard and demand that your hubby be with you? All the very best, and at the end of the day, your health and teh baby's health is the most important.

I would not go and have postponed a weekend there. Many colleagues with family in Lebanon have advised this and are worried about their loved ones. There is too much instability and look what happened in 2006, when so many people were stranded there when it shut down. It is not worth it.

"Mr Weiner said Czech women offered a combination of brains, beauty and fidelity, adding that Donald Trump married a woman from the Czech Republic." So how do they 'test' these women on the 'fidelity' characteristic? a woman that got a fair slice of Trump's pie in a divorce......good for her.

My sister just visited for the first time - in the first two days she commented how impatient and narky I had gotten, then at the end of her two weeks, said she would kill someone if she ever had to live here..... edited by DesertBoot on 31/01/2011

That's disgusting behaviour from someone who is supposed to be a healthCARE worker. You can only imagine how his staff get treated! Our helper went to a doctor for recurring migraines. He told her it is because she takes a shower before she sleeps??? Didn't ask her about water intake, diet, blood presure, periods, eyesights, or I don't know anything that actually made sense!

You are supporting child/slave labour by shopping at some full priced stores too! Exactly. Every single one of us living in this country, toting 'real' handbags or not, is profiting from slave labour. Who do you think built your villa, does your maintenance, cleans the malls, sweeps the roads etc., It is pretty hard to stand on your ethics here and follow them through in all aspects of your life, when people are being exploited right under our noses. so what you are saying, one more "wrong" is ok... Not at all, and I don't own a fake handbag for my own reasons. I am saying that there is exploitation all around us, but because the exploitation of child workers in the fakes industry is talked about and not in our backyards, more people seem to be able to back this cause. How do you think that shops like Forever21 can sell things so cheap and still make a profit? I don't have the answers and am guilty of living a nice life whilst I know that the majority of the population here don't. http://foreverunfair.wordpress.com/

I used the EpiNo to train to avoid tears during birth, but it can also be used after birth as a pelvic floor trainer. http://www.epino.de/birth.htm

We have a mattress and frame from Pottery Barn, which is California King. It wasn't cheap but you might luck out they have a sale at the moment.

I second Egg's note of getting a puppy from the shelter. Also, whenever we get a pet, I factor into the budget to have enough to repatriate the animal to our home country in the event that we leave (this is assuming you are not a citizen of the UAE). For us, that's about 20k per animal.

We sat and had shwarmas in the Iranian pavillion at the restaurant set up inside there - they were fine and cheap.
