You can either check out places in Meena Bazar or go to Rolla in Sharjah. There's a BIG market in Rolla selling salwar kameez.

what would stand up in court is your UAE labour contract - do you have a copy of this with you (it will also be filed with the ministry of labour, so you can get a copy from there). to amend anything, your contract would also have had to be amended and you would have had to sign it. So it looks like you will be lucky.... ;) Yes I have a copy of the contract which also states that no changes can be made without signing another contract. What confused me was speaking to a couple of lawyers who demotivated me!! But thanks to you all, I am now all charged!! :)

Can you not try speaking to your employer and tell them that you have consulted the Ministry of Labour and that they have advised that they cannot reduce the basic salary like this? Of course I can, but I know the management is pretty adamant and will make it difficult.

Thanks ecochic, I did speak to a local lawyer who said it is not worth fighting a case and that I should resolve the matter internally. Now I am confused :( When I spoke to the MoL they told me that the salary can't be reduced but said I should refer to Media city for updates, Media city brushed off saying they follow the same rules as the labour law. So no one is giving clear answers. edited by Desi girl on 12/11/2012

I have the AETNA insurance from RSA which has very good coverage. May be you can try speaking to them and see if it suits you.
