Dear all, I have come across your messages re horse riding. I am due out shortly and wish to continue to ride. I wondered whether you had got a group together, what you think of the riding school and your thoughts in general of the dos and dont's of riding in Dubai. I am hoping to live aound The Greens area and wondered whether there might be riding that is easy for me to get too as I will not have a car. Your thoughts with this would be very much appreciated Thank you LEC edited by LEC on 27/04/2012 edited by LEC on 27/04/2012 If you do find anything like this going, I'd be only too happy to join when I get out there in May

Hannah Unfortunately I will not be in the position to buy a horse when we move to Dubai next month, and probably not for a year or so after that, but do you do horse share or loans out there like we have back in the UK?

Yes it was right next to the wormers! One final question. What is your pet store called and where is it so we can sort all this out once we get there. Thanks again

Any doubts I ever had about moving lock, stock and barrel have now totally evaporated, or should I say been drowned in all the rain we've had recently. I know you'll all say how much I'll miss the green and the cooler weather, but right now, I'm just so fed up with it. We've got the heating on and the lights, it's so dark nearly all day. Rant over, roll on middle of May Anyone coming to the UK - all you need are flippers!!! edited by Dilys on 26/04/2012 You might need to buy some snow boots, apparently May is going to be the coldest May for 100 years with lots of snow! As long as my plane gets out of Newcastle, do I care, NO.............

Thank you both for your offers of help, very kind of you. I have had some success - our local pet store sells a product called tri-wormer and it is exactly the same formula as Drontal Plus, so have been able to purchase and start treatment. Just thought I would share in case anyone else uses this wormer, it's 6dhs per tablet compred to £1.75 in the UK. Thanks for this information I'll file it away for when we arrive. Can you also get Frontline out there?

Hi I'll be moving out to Dubai in the middle of May. I know that this may be a little late for you, but will I be able to bring some Drontal either with me of send it with our personal belongings which are being shipped?? I could always bring some extra. I don't want to be deported before I get started !!

Thanks aplouman. We're bringing 3 cats and 2 dogs Newcastle to Dubai in 3 weeks time and I'm really concerned about the cats as they've never been indoor cats and have always come and gone as they pleased. Hopefully they'll eventually settle down as 'desert cats'!!! We did have to use a relocation agent and DKC to get the permits though, as you're normally only allowed 2 pets per passport.

Thank you so much for this. We are moving to Dubai in the next month and bringing our 2 dogs with us. As both are still quite young I think that Pet Planet will become my second home! We're looking at properties to rent in the JVC / JVT areas (due to budget) and I would love to hear from anyone who can let me have any information about how pet friendly they are Good luck with your move to Dubai, JVT is a very dog friendly community - villas with large gardens :) Most villas communities are indeed pet friendly, however Government rules dogs must be on-leash in public places. However,my dog goes to off-leash park & daycare @ www.positivepaws.ae which is max 10 min drive from JVT/JVC. I definitely recommend you get in touch with them when your dogs arrive as I know from experience trying to set up in a new country with two dogs in the home can be quite challenging, especially as the weather is hotting up now and it becomes more difficult to walk them and burn off some of their energy. Welcome to Dubai when you arrive Thanks a million for all this info. I think it's harder to sort out pets than kids !!!!! I am really looking forward to this and can't wait for the dogs to make some new friends, and hopefully it will be easier for me too.

Hi Nicola We're moving out in the next 4 weeks with our 2 dogs, a JRT and Cyprus Terrier. We're looking at properties in JVC and JVT to rent, but it would be great to have contact with someone local for doggie playdates. dilysguthrie at btinternet dot com

I haven't actually used them as yet, but DKC have been very helpful and informative in relocating our pets to Dubai and arranging for them to board there until we can have them home. I don't know if their costs are expensive compared to any others out there, but we are more concerned about the care they receive than the cost. HTH

Sounds great for us as we have no kids to worry about, just the pets. I'd rather try and get in before the prices start to rise too much.

Honestly sch us the most important, I know lots of mums doing the DESS/DESC run hopefully you can team up with someone! Don't like to say it on here but DH looked at Springs when he arrived and I am so glad he didn't choose a house there, have friends who dislike it intensely and have to stay as kids are settled at DBS, apart from that they'd move in a heartbeat. Are you allowed to say why you/others dislike it ?? We're moving out in the next 3-4 weeks and are still trying to decide the best places to look at Personally, and in my own opinion (which I will get struck down for) its looking tired, just rows and rows of the same. Our friends live in a 3E, the rooms downstairs are small and the proximity to road noise and pylons I just couldn't live with. Our friends pay 130k and have own pool, you can get a 5 bed detached at the villa for that. Or a well kept Ranches al Reem or Alma, of course it's personal pref but I'd rather live in an apt in the Marina than in springs and that's just my view (battens down the hatches!) Thanks for that, I'll defend you once we arrive!! We're looking for somewhere we can keep dogs, but with a budget of 100K max we could be struggling. We don't really need the pools or to be close to schools. As long as DH can drive to Silicon Oasis without too much trouble.

We're moving out next month. Our current household insurance will have to be cancelled as the house will stand empty for most of the year, apart from holidays and we are currently trying to find a company that will not charge us the earth. One of our neighbours will be looking in on the property once a week and keeping the garden tidy. As for the council they still want the full tax as it will be furnished. Yet I can get 25% discount for the time I will be here on my own before joining hubby!!!!! You must be very lucky Highland lass

Just a quick warning that when I personally moved last year it hit the beginning of Ramadan and was really difficult to get the promised servicing on a/c etc and bits that needed doing to the villa pre-tenancy. Noticed that you are planning to move in August and something to consider when choosing dates. I have left you a message on another thread! Lucy Bush (Cluttons) Hi Lucy I have read your posts with much interest. Hubby is moving out next Friday to start work at DSO on Sunday. I will be following hopefully about 3 weeks later once we have sorted out our pets relocation and the shipping of personal belongings. As we will not be looking for schools or kids play areas etc. (we're well past that stage!!), would you be able to give me some advice re JVC and JVT. dilysguthrie at btinternet dot com. Many thanks edited by Dilys on 22/04/2012

Hi Feefmick....we moved to JVC in Feb we are in Villa at Grand Chateau, we pay little extra for use of the pool and gym but the appartments on the complex get it in with their rent..my kids are in DBS and its really easy only 5-10 mins there and 10-15 mins back in the car....other reasonable priced complexes on JVC are orchid park and mulberry mansions...very spacious but no pool facilities. Hope this helps. :-) Hi Are the villas and area here ok for people with dogs. We don't have kids to consider, but a couple of dogs.? Thanks

Hi we are in JVC, where we are we do have access to a pool. My kids currently go to Regent but I am moving them to DBS as of Sept. It takes me 8 mins in the morning to get to school, but around 15 mins to get home as we have to go on the Emirates road. I am guessing it will take around the same time to get to DBS. There are a few houses where are for rent at the moment (1 next door to my self, a 4 bed) and some 3 bed ones - these all have the pool access. if you want to email me my address is mgr1966 at gmail dot com. n Hi there Would you mind letting me have some more info on the houses you know about for rent. My husband is flying out next week to start work at DSO and I will be following him soon after. JVC sounds ok for us as we would like quite a lot of room, not for kids but 2 dogs and we really don't want a manicured garden !!! My email is dilysguthrie at btinternet dot com Thanks edited by Dilys on 20/04/2012

Thanks to you all for this. It's good to know there are a number of places we can look at. I've been on some websites already and had a quick glance. Thanks for your info Beebers, as we'll definately be leaving most of our stuff back in the UK. We're moving in the next 6 weeks, so unfortunately will miss out on the Dubai Shopping Festival, but there's always next year :). Now all I've got to do is find out how my DH can get to see F1 and Moto GP out there :\: aha--funny--those are the only 2 things my husband follows :) We have a pretty basic cable package with Du. and as a matter of fact--Moto GP is on tonight on Al Jazeera Sports :) F1 should also be on the same channel, AJ sports1 or 2. We purchased an LED tv from Sharaf DG at Dubai Mall, and it is just a delight to watch sports on :) You could just be my saviour. What I didn't add though was that I enjoy them as well :)

Thanks for all the replies. It sounds as if we'll be doing our searching at Arabian Ranches and Layan to see what's available. I'm sure that we'll enjoy it as much as everyone else on here seems to, despite our advancing years too!

Sorry I didn't give much information last night, but here goes. Ian will be working in Silicon Oasis when we move, we don't need to think about schools (well past that stage!!) and we'd rather be out somewhere away from the main area. Thanks for letting me know that there's not a lot furnished and to be honest we don't want fully furnished, I'm just worried we get in and then have to start looking for white goods. Also we'll be bringing our pets with us so we'll need a reasonably doggie friendly area.
