I am laughing out loud to nobody in particulars advice. Will try to adhere to these rules of the road so as not to stand out. Ha ha! Thanks lolly. Have seen those cars around and wondered if they were just for people who were doing their test. Good to know I can resort to lessons when Fridays venture out inevitably leads to world war 3! Well done on your progress. I am sure you must be delighted to be so independent again. Thanks again ladies!

Thanks for the quick replies girls! I think you are right clairehdp I have been putting it off for so long I have scared myself out of doing it. I think I will just have to bite the bullet as you both have advised. I live in the greens so will maybe stick to that area for a while that's if I make it out of the car park in one piece! Watch out if anyone lives in the greens on Friday morning! Lol!

Hi OP have had a few waxing/ threading disasters since I moved here so I feel your pain. I have recently tried a company that comes to my apartment. I get my waxing, nails and facial all done while watching tv. They bring everything including the bed and relaxing music. It's great not to have to walk around with red eyebrows in public afterwards. They are called chez toi. Just google them! Really nice girls.

Hi OP I  I want to reassure you as a social worker and educational welfare specialist with a lot of experience of teenagers that what your son is displaying is typical of a lot of teenagers. Boys imparticular are very slow to express what they are really feeling or thinking. It's a really awkward time for them. The best thing you can do from experience is set boundaries and stick to them. Believe it or not most teenagers I have worked with , their biggest complaint was that their parents don't care either ways what they think or do. When teenagers feel listened to and respected within a structured environment they fare best. I worked with one teenage boy who used to tell me that the only time he felt he could speak to his mother about what was going on in his life was when they used to go for a drive in the car. This for him was a space that was non confrontational, relaxed and what was said in the car was not mentioned outside of the car. Perhaps creating a space that your son could feel is safe and without repercussion could be a good place to find out what is going on with him.  17 is a really difficult time where boys feel they should be treated like an adult but are also overwhelmed by this. Between exams and future planning for college and careers it is a huge stress. Just letting him know that whatever happens you are there for him and he can come to you with any problem will be a huge relief to him. I'm sure you have already told him this. So you have to trust that he will come to you. Sometimes having someone outside his immediate support network can be of help. So if you feel things are to the point of breakdown it might be an idea to suggest this. In my experience this needs to be someone not associated with school. Perhaps an uncle or friend. Someone he looks up to. Someone who he can speak to confidentially who will not disclose the conversation. I hope things settle down for you but I have to say that compared to some children I have worked with he is extremely fortunate to have such a caring and concerned mom. So don't beat yourself up!

I have stayed in Prague twice. The first time on wenceslas square and would not recommend it at all. It is not very nice at night. All the nice cafes and restaurants seemed to be in the old town side. We stayed in the Clarion which was perfectly nice for a short stay. Nothing luxurious but central, nice room and close to everything. Enjoy your trip!

Hi there! just back from a trip to Berlin. we stayed in the Adina apart hotel. really nice accommodation. they have a pool, fitness area and serve breakfast and dinner. nice bar also. really good if you need spacious accommodation for kids. we stayed at the one in hauptbahnhof though there are two others in berlin. very close to the hauptbahnhof train station. there is no real central area. everywhere is a quick ride on the s bahn. i recommend you get the three day pass for unlimited public transport. we found it excellent. the kids will love berlin zoo and aquarium. kurfurstendamm is where all the shopping is. there are boat rides and a hop on hop off bus for sightseeing. you will get discounts on all of these and on zoo passess with the three day travel pass. Hope you enjoy your trip, we did!

Thanks northernstar. thats good to know. they all look fab online but good to get info from someone who has experience of them. definately dont like the idea of being woken at 3am. looking more and more like the Oaks is the best option. seems to be good location and the apartments have received good reviews. i made the mistake of looking at the radisson apartments which look really nice but they are quoting for 1 bed apt for two months 42,000 aed. i have had to remind myself that its not a vacation. ha ha! :)
