I believe that he can sell it whilst you are still living there and tell any potential buyers that tenants are in there for another 2 years - would he agree to this? Yes, going to try this..

you dont have a case. The landlord is giving you a 12 month notice, at the time of renewal. He can sell, not sell, leave empty or rent out- doesnt matter. As you got 12 month notice. Err.. I [i'>do[/i'> have a case if he isn't actually selling, and it [i'>does[/i'> matter according to the law.. but thats not what I was asking. Thanks for your input?

Thanks Lolacat.. yes, may be I will ask if he will consider a 2yr contact, haven't thought of that. Although, if he is in fact trying to raise the rent (and not actually sell), I doubt he will want to commit to a longer term.

Thanks for the reply. It definitely is a grey area. I have no doubt that the LL will follow all the legal steps to serve the notice to us, notarized and with 12-months notice...about this I have no complaints or objections. And I have no complaints if he is in fact selling, as it is his property and he can do as he wishes with it. I just question the legitimacy of the reason he is providing, given that it came immediately upon refusal of a rent increase - if it is false reason, it would make the whole eviction illegitimate. Since there laws in place that requiring LLs to have legitimate reasons to evict, I am just wondering what laws are also in place to enforce this (such as requiring supporting documentation on his end; registering this eviction notice with Ejari or elsewhere, so he may not be able to re-let immediately; availing tenants an easy way to check if the LL has re-let to new tenant, etc.)

Ladies, Just wanted to point this out, in case you're feeling anxious about learning to settle in a new country - forums like this are a great tool and source of support, but while you wait for members to join the new forum, don't forget that information is much more accessible outside of Dubai, especially in North America! Pretty much any information you could need is readily available online. Doctor recommendations can be found on specialized sites with thousands of honest reviews (where you can search based on specialty, insurance, patient ratings, location, etc); product reviews are easily accessible; any item you need to purchase, can be found via online store/product locators (just enter zip or city) or simply ordered directly; driving directions are all clear and easy with GPS (and street names!); gov’t processes are clearly outlined and paperwork can be found (and often completed & submitted) online.. these are just few examples, but pretty much all you need, in terms of information, is already there and available!

1. No. But as a previous poster said, certain nationalities do not need a test - you can simply transfer the license. Check the RTA site for list of countries that qualify. You will also need an eye test (regardless whether you're taking the test or simply transferring), so you can get started on that while you wait for your visa to speed up the process a bit. 2. No. But you can rent a car if you have a license that is recognized here. 3. Yes and No. You can rent short term/month-to-month, serviced, or hotel apartments, without residency visa, but you cannot enter into an annual rental agreement. For annual contract you will typically need to pay with a check(s) from one of the local banks, so you will need to open a bank account first (also done only once you get residency visa).

As previous posters have said - no need to transfer. The passport expiration does not invalidate the visa. Upon receiving the residence visa I asked on the spot what I should do once my passport expires (as it will expire about a year before the visa does). I was told to just present the old passport along with the new, whenever the visa is needed, and absolutely no need to transfer.

Unfortunately, don't have experience with postpartum care in Dubai, but I'm pregnant (FTM) and have been doing some research and can comment re: Metamucil. Although Metamucil specifically isn't available, the active ingredient is psyllium husk and you can buy the powder in pharmacies here under other brand names. Its a bit hit or miss, as with most things, so you might need to check a few places before you actually find it (for example, the Solgar vitamin brand, which is in many pharmacies here, produces psyllium husk powder capsules, but not all pharmacies might have it in stock... thats just one brand, others make it as well). Also, if it gives you peace of mind to use things that you've researched and found good reviews of, it might be worth it to sign up for Shop & Ship and order these items from US or UK, if not available here. I am having many of my postpartum care (and baby care) items shipped to me from the US.

Sorry didn't read the start of the post, Dr. Ulrich Honemeyer at Welcare in Garhoud specialises in high risk pregnancies, he saw me through mine. Very little in the way of interpersonal skills (or didn't 5 years ago) but he knows his stuff and when you are in his office you and the baby are his only concerns. I had a scare at 20 weeks and he saw me, calmed me down and I had an amnio. It didn't matter about the patients outside, me and DD were his priority. I believe he is now at the Fetal Medicine Center, in Healthcare City.

There is no reason to come with "unique ideas" or play games, just be mature about it. Although this seems like a big deal to you, in the end its not personal, its just business.. and the hairdresser understands this. It might be uncomfortable (mainly for you, she might not even care, as she has other customers) to walk in and go to her colleague for the next few appointments but after some time it will be forgotten. Just think, if she got a better job offer elsewhere or wanted to move out of Dubai, she would not consider [b'>your[/b'> feelings or how [b'>you[/b'> would feel about her leaving. Next time be polite and friendly, say hi, ask how she is and a quick "my appointment is with so-and-so today".. thats all. You don't owe any explanations. If you do strike up a conversation and really feel like you must explain your switch, just say that her colleague's particular style/technique works better with your hair. That way you don't insult her ability, but also remain honest.

By "maintenance", do you mean maintenance fees to the building, or do you mean repair work in the apartment? Maintenance fees are the responsibility of the landlord, as he/she is the owner of the property, however some landlords do pass on this cost to the tenant if stated as such in the contract. In our contract there is a specific clause that states "Annual maintenance fee to [Building Name/Builder'> to be borne by landlord". Unless the contract says otherwise, repairs are also technically the responsibility of the landlord (or a third party they hire, such as a management company, power of attorney, etc), if the tenant is not at fault. That being said however, unfortunately not all landlords are responsive to repair requests, and it really depends on your landlord. It is also not unheard of landlords carrying out necessary maintenance work, which is not a fault of the tenant, then taking the cost out of the deposit in the end. It doesn't make it right or lawful, but it does happen. On the other hand, there are landlords out there who behave quite professionally, fix things immediately and cover all costs.

NP - Just wanted to add an update. I decided to check what the process is to register a new baby for her own plan, so I can be prepared for whats to come - Instead of reaching to Aetna directly, I contacted the HR rep who deals with insurance at my husband's job, since my plan is through his employer. I find that at Aetna the customer service reps are not always up to speed on their own info. The HR rep told me that a copy of the birth certificate is enough to open the new plan for the baby (after the initial 30 days, during which she will be covered under my plan). She said that eventually we need to submit passport copy and visa copy for the baby, but it will not be necessary to open the additional policy. Again, this is based on my particular plan/policy and yours might be different, but I just wanted to let you know so you might not necessarily need a passport to open a new plan.

I think it depends on your specific insurance plan. I too have AETNA and per my benefits, my baby will be covered under my policy for the first 30 days after birth, including routine checks, vaccinations, blood tests, NICU, etc, without any additional documentation. After the 30 days, I will need to apply for a separate policy. When you do call back, or if you have your member handbook, check about Maternity & Newborn benefits (or sometimes called "Mother and Baby Module" by AETNA), as the customer service rep might only give you information about NEW policy for baby instead of looking at your existing benefits just after birth, when the baby is still possibly under your policy. Good luck!

Thanks for the replies. Okay, makes sense about online shopping. But essentially, it applies to ANY item shipped to Dubai?.. I was under the impression this was a sort of a new-mechandise or purchase duty, and did not apply to non-newly-purchased goods, such as second hand items (for example, from a friend/relative which you did not pay for); personal effects (such household items that you might have stored back home and have someone ship you); or items that you might have already had in Dubai (existing personal property you might have taken from Dubai to holiday back home and decided to ship instead of bringing back in your luggage)? I tried to find information online but there doesn’t seem to be any clear answers. The only info I was able to find on the dubai customs website is that personal effects are not taxed unless they’re in large quantities and believed to be brought in for the purpose of re-sale, however I think this is referring to luggage and not post. Sorry for the barrage of questions, just hoping someone has personal experience with this.

You can dispute the charge in two ways (that I know of) - 1. When you're logged into iTunes, click on the "Support" button. Then, "Contact Support", then "Purchases, Billing & Redemption", then choose the most relevant option, such as "Unrecognized Charge"... on this page it will give you an option to schedule a call or send an email to the support team. OR: 2. Click on "Accounts", then "Purchase History". Here, you will see all your purchases and a "Report a Problem" button. It allows you to chose the app you're reporting and fill out a form explaining the issue you're having. I have had to dispute two iTunes purchases before, one was an error in a movie download which prevented me from watching (so I had to purchase again and wanted a refund for having paid twice), and the other was a VERY expensive update cost to an app I already use, that I did not find warranted the price once I opened the new version, and wanted my money back. Both times I used the second method to contact iTunes and although I did not speak to anyone directly, I was refunded within 2-3 days. Since your problem is more serious than mine were, I am confident they will resolve quickly. Hope this helps!

As previous poster said, freight is the cheaper option if you have a lot of things. Freight shipping is often based on space (amount that will fit in a container, or half-container), regardless of weight of the items, while air shipping is usually based on weight and adds up quickly. Get in touch with a few shipping companies for quotes. They will often send you a quick questionnaire or interview over the phone, and give you a quote based on the information you provide (example: 15 medium boxes, 3 pieces of furniture, etc.), or they will tell you a fixed cost of a container (example: 6meters x 2 meters) and its up to you to fill it how you wish. Shop around, as sometimes the prices can vary greatly but do be wary of any offers that sound too good to be true in comparison to others. Also, be sure to read the fine print of the quotes, for any hidden charges (such as cost of storage before/after shipping, paperwork processing fees, customs & import taxes, etc) as those add up quickly and can make the better/cheaper shipper come out to be more expensive than those who include these charges in the initial cost. As for recommendations for companies, you didn't mention where you're coming from but its probably best to locate a company in your home country. Good luck!

Thanks so much Tmac - I am looking for an osteopath specifically because my insurance will not cover chiropractors, as they classify them as "experimental" medicine :( Thanks for the recommendation however, if I am not able to find what I am looking for, I might just got to Dr. Leader and pay out of pocket! Would any ladies out there that have recommendations for osteopaths? TIA

Hello mums and mums-to-be, Can anyone recommend a good osteopath that specializes in ante-natal care? I did a search online and found a couple of leads, but hoping to hear about personal experience. I'm only about 5 months along, but back pain and rib pain have been getting bad and keeping me up at night for a couple of weeks now..and terrified of whats to come as I get bigger. I have slight scoliosis, so really looking for someone knowledgeable about intensive treatment during pregnancy. Thanks in advance!

My understanding and I am not saying this is def correct but chiropractors tend to focus on correcting the spine and joints ie they make the correct manoeuvre and then expect the tense muscles from things being out of place to release as a result of making the correction. Osteopaths tend to work other parts of the body as well as spine....they often do soft tissue work first to loosen the muscle BEFORE making the adjustment as they tend to believe that tight muscles may be contributing to pulling vertebrae or joints out of places. As others said, you will often find a cross over between how they treat and some osteopaths will treat more like chiropractors and vice versa. This is purely anecdotal but in my experience a chiropractor will make the adjustment in the area where the discomfort or pain is presenting, often this can be enough but an osteopath tends to look at the entire body. The osteopath I use in UK totally looks at every single part of my body no matter what problem I present with. He then makes adjustments as he works up the body. The most important thing is to find a good one. I personally would be looking for one who looks at the whole body and not just at where the problem is presenting. I also believe some soft tissue work is also important but these are purely my opinions. Thank you so much for taking the time to share and explain. It does seem that the methods seem to overlap and this is probably why I was not understanding. The way you've described your osteopath's approach is really what my experiences have been with any good chiropractor. (Just as an example, although I was suffering from neck pain, my one of the evaluations performed by my chiropractor at the time was to have me stand with feet shoulder-width apart, with out looking down. When I did this, one of my feet ended up a few cm ahead of the other, which told him which other body parts needed work/electro therapy/alignment, which would led to a release and relief of pain in my neck.). As you said, its important to find someone who is good, and willing to have an analytical approach of the entire body and not just focus on the problem area, which is often just a symptom. Thanks again, much appreciated. I will no longer be hesitant to look up an osteopath, since they're just the trusted "chiropractors" I have come to know!

If you google 'Chiropractor or Osteopath' you will find explanations as to the difference but some of their methods are quite similar. My DD was treated by a chiropractor for several months for her bad back but he wasn't solving the problem. She finally went to see Russell Hill at the Osteopathic Centre and he sorted her out in no time at all. Thanks Amelia, As I mentioned, I did just that and was not able to identify the differences. The only difference that was more obvious was that (I think) chiropractors mainly treat the back/neck, while osteopaths can treat other areas as well.. however that doesn't really help me understand their approaches any better. Hoping someone here who has been treated by both would be able to clarify the methods used by each, as it relates to back treatment. Thanks!

Sorry a bit off topic, but can someone explain to me the difference between a chiropractor and an osteopath, as it relates to treatment of back pain? Tried to find the answer via google but still not really clear on what the differences are. I've had back pain since I was a teenager and have always gone to a chiropractor to treat it through realignment, nerve therapy, etc. In Dubai, my insurance deems chiropractic as "alternative" medicine and therefore won't cover it. Just wondering if an osteopath might the able to help, but unclear what exactly it is that they do and what their approach is. TIA!!

([b'>don't really trust the TimeOut suggestions some of the ones suggested on there in the past have been quite shabby, sometimes I think they're just paid to plug[/b'>.) You are right! They have this disclaimer on various pages within the magazine... something along the lines of "this is not a list of recommendations, but paid listings", then instructions on how a business can get listed and requirements for submitting blurbs. Hi praia74, I do not have any Celiac children, but my husband has a gluten sensitivity and in support, I have kept a gluten-free diet as well. It is a learning curve. The severity of the condition will also dictate how careful you have to be - Some celiacs are still able to take small amounts, such as soy sauce with sushi; certain flavorings, such the spices often used on packaged crisps; deli meats; oats; etc... while others have to keep a very strict abstinence, such as not being able to take any gluten-free items that were stored on the same shelf as gluten products at the store; not being able to eat at restaurants that do not have a separate station/kitchen for preparing gluten free items; and other extreme measures to avoid any cross contamination. This site has some info for being gluten-free in the UAE: http://glutenfreeuae.com. I do not know if they run any support groups, but it might be a good place to start. Check out Organic Foods & Cafe for gluten free products (the one on SZR has 3 whole dedicated isles), including cereals, flours, pasta, sauces, etc. Carrefour, Spinnys and Lulu also have some gluten free items. Personally, I think the easiest way to follow the diet is not looking for substitutions, but simply eliminating certain items (its also much cheaper this way, as gluten free items can get pretty pricey). We stopped eating bread altogether so we don't have to scour stores for gluten free bread. We keep some gluten free pasta/noodles at home, but prefer to cook rice or potato instead. When eating out, we ask for ALL sauces to be served on the side, since the wait staff is often clueless about the ingredients, so we can decide once it arrives if it is safe, as BBQ or gravy are often not. Gluten is many many packaged products, so whole foods are the best way to go. Once you learning more about ingredients and what to avoid (the less obvious stuff), and cooking more, you will see that it starts to become easy. I hope this helps somewhat.

I think the accessories and colors you choose should depend on how formal or casual the party is. Gold accessories will make it more dressy, dark (black, navy) accessories can make it more formal, bright colors or layering of bright colors will make it more festive, and so on. In any case, peach or pale green would look good with a white dress. You can even mix the complementing colors if you feel comfortable, such as peach for a belt and pale green necklace, or a mix of jewelry in these colors. Coral would look great with white as well. Aside from color, pay attention to the cut/style of the dress (structured, romantic, formal, etc), to pick the accessories accordingly. And, if you're looking to go with a bold accessory, I would suggest focusing on just one "statement" piece. So, if you wear a very intricate belt, go easy on the earrings or necklace.. if you pick an impressive necklace, tone down the other items, etc. The main thing is, a white dress is like a blank canvas.. as long as you have fun and like the look, there really is no way to go wrong with "matching" a color to white. Wear a white top with your jeans when you go to pick out the accessories, preferably with a similar neckline to your dress. This way you can get some idea of how they would look with white. Have fun! :)

While I do not think it is strange to give mother's day cards or gifts for different types of relationships, including husband to wife, as it is simply acknowledging their role as a mother / showing appreciation for the job a mother does (your own mother, your wife as a mother, your cousin, etc..)..... I do think however, that the whole 'holiday' is a bit of a marketing scheme so personally, I do not take it too seriously. edited by DivineBeet on 30/03/2014

I am also due in October, the doctor asked me if I wanted the NT scan as I am over 35, I declined, because if it comes positive, it is not accurate, and would only worry me for the rest of the pregnancy as I am against abortion, but even if you were to terminate due to chromosomal abnormalities, is it legal in the UAE? I believe it is not legal, and would have to be done abroad.

Hi there, Congrats on your good news! I'm also due Mid October. Had my scan on Tuesday with Dr. Elsa at City - was 10 weeks, 2 days and all looked good and heard the hearbeat so it was lovely! All going well so far, no symptoms whatsoever or any sickness so I think I'm getting away lightly! I have the NT scan booked at the Fetal Medical Clinic soon but now I'm nervous on it and not sure whether to cancel. Are any of you doing it? Congratulations! We are probably due on or around the same date! On whether you should cancel or not - its really a personal decision. Have you thought through what you would do if the results show that there is something wrong? There are parents who don't want to know and feel that whatever is meant to be, will be; there are parents who want to know because they would terminate, if they get bad results; and there are parents who want to know so they can prepare mentally (and financially) for a potentially sick baby. First, I think you need to figure out which category you fall into and make the decision to take (or not take) the test based on that. I will be getting it done. I am doing it for peace of mind - I am not considered high risk (based on age and family history), but it will give me one less thing to worry about ..However I've discussed with my husband, and know what we would do if we get bad news.

I haven't settled on a doctor or hospital yet, but already had a scan to see the baby and hear a heartbeat. Surreal!

I use FTD flower service for all my US flower deliveries. I can't recommend them enough! The packaging, the vases, the flower quality have all been top notch and their customer service is great. They have a 7-day guarantee so if your flowers start to wilt before 7 days, they will refund you or replace them (but this has not happened in the dozen or so deliveries that I have placed.) I find their quality control to be much higher than 800Flowers, at least in my experience.

Sometimes growing up in household with parents who resent each other or when there is tension in the house, can be much more damaging than having divorced parents. Kids can pick up on a whole lot more than you suspect, even when you think you’re doing a really job of hiding your problems from them. Something as subtle as body language can give things away, even if on subconscious level. I’m not saying that you should leave your husband, that is something only you can decide, but just want to say that staying together is not always what is best for children, if you don’t think you can work out your marriage issues.

I'm sorry but these replies are not helpful. [b'>If it was the water then everybody would have hairloss[/b'>. rinsing with bottled water will not help hairloss-or millions of people would have an easy solution.lol. also shampoos will not help. Not necessarily. What might irritate one person, won't affect another. (After all, if I said pollen makes me sneeze, a rebuttal of "not possible, then everyone would be sneezing" would not really be a valid one). Sure there are people with deficiencies and stress causing issue, but others might simply be reacting to an irritant (and if you notice, medical conditions and stress have been mentioned more than once in the previous posts). No one here said washing with bottled water or a particular shampoo is an end-all solution to all hair loss. No problem, hope it helps! If you're worried about length of hair, then you can try washing with tap water, shampooing, rinsing with tap water to make sure all shampoo is out.. and only then using the bottled water to clear away the tap water. I think it makes the process a bit easier. Also, and this is just my trick, in order to warm up the bottled water, I put it on the bathtub floor with me from the start of the shower, so that the hot water coming down has a chance warm it up a bit before I use it. That way its not as startlingly cold.

I'm still trying to work out my take home pay for the US, but am getting very different figures on the take-home calculators. Is there anyone in Dubai that can assist with my tax concerns i.e. an accountant? I need to be sure i'm going to be ok over there...and i'm worried currently... Any help would be appreciated Not sure if you were able to get any help on this, but wanted to suggest that you should reach out to your potential new employers HR department and ask them for assistance. Since taxes are almost always withdrawn from your paycheck automatically, HR and the payroll dept should be able to give you a basic idea of just how much you will be taking home, based on your pay. I would not address this to the hiring manager or new boss, but to the HR department directly. When looking for an apartment all will depend on your budget, but I would strongly recommend considering living within comfortable walking distance to a subway station. New Yorkers generally don't drive and most don't have cars, as the NYC public transportation system is one of the most extensive, if not THE most extensive, in the world. I am from NYC and worked in midtown east (Park Ave), and this post is making me miss home!

I've only been once, in October.. but really enjoyed. The food was great, and the servers were very professional and knowledgeable. The only down side is that there isn't much of a view and no outdoor seating... however this would not keep me from going back.

Hi VictoriaO, I am just like you - my hair has been falling at an unimaginable rate. My scalp actually often feels sore. I am also most definitely not stressed (and even when I have been through out my life, hair fall was never a symptom), and the environment is not a factor. I've tried hair masks, various specialized shampoos, vitamins, but nothing has helped. I too believe that it is the water. Using a shower filter has not made much of a difference. I've resigned to rinsing my hair with bottled water after washing, and it seems to be the only thing that works. It certainly doesn't fix the problem because whenever I forget to bring a bottle in or think that all is better and skip it, clumps and chunks of hair start coming out. After rinsing with bottled water I do see less hair falling, it feels stronger and stays clean longer. As all of our bodies are different, this might not be the answer for you. You might find that a good "Hair/Nails/Skin" complex of vitamins might be what you need. Natural oil (such as olive oil), egg yolk or honey can be massaged into hair and scalp. I would would probably start with those before buying any salon products (and they are often loaded with chemicals which can make fragile hair even weaker, not to mention expensive). If nothing helps, or if you want to eliminate medical reasons first, do see a doctor for blood work to check if you have any deficiencies or underlying conditions. If you strongly feel that it is the water however, don't let anyone tell you otherwise, as it definitely the issue for me. Good luck

Their facebook page would probably have the most up to date info, although right now its just filled with angry comments from NYE customers who have yet to be refunded.
