Thank you for your advice. I will contact her and see how we can go forward. I feel we have treated her more than fairly but she is such an argumentative person. Time to man up!

No we downsized (big time) so no longer required a full time maid. We gave her a return ticket for her annual leave and a big payment (although at the time she was not at all grateful). She works a few hours for us and this was purely to give her some money, even though we have paid for her visa, but the cleaning has been so poor. I feel so used as all we have done is to try and be fair to her but it has gone so wrong. Now I am worried that she is our responsibility but we don't know where she lives, who she works for and what her intentions are. Her attitude has been awful and I don't know what to do for the best.

So I've looked into cancellation of visa. Has anybody been through the process where the maid does not want to leave? Any helps or tips gratefully received.

She is my own maid - fully sponsored by my husband. We didn't need her any more so have allowed her to keep her visa whilst she finds another sponsor. Big mistake. 5 months on and she's stringing us along. She said that nobody will offer visas so it seems a lot of madams are using maids but not paying for visas. She is now saying she can get a visa from a cleaning company??? but will be working for at least 2 families. Is the only way forward taking her to the airport and putting her on a one way flight home?

I ordered through Amazon UK and put postal address as residential address in Dubai. It's not cheap as it's couriered but depends how much you want the product!

Yes I have deliveries from Amazon to an apartment - by courier. When not in they have redelivered - need a signature. UPS was used and no problems.

One year I was told I needed my own licence and so we applied for me. The year after we applied for us both and only my husband received his. I have never had a problem using his licence.

We went to Disney Land Orlando. Fantastic time but then DH reversed our 4x4 into a palm tree. As we pulled forward we could see the mark the tyre on the back of the car had made in the tree. Worse still we couldn't open the rear door. Oh well we thought these things happen. So we come to our second last day and off we went in the morning but our eldest son was suffering from the heat. We headed back to our apartment but the keys wouldn't work. DH went off to see reception but then I began to have a very sneaky feeling about the actual date of our departure because we had changed it a few times. DH returned and yes we should have checked out and our flight was leaving in 3 hours. Panic set in. We phoned the airline and not surprisingly they told us to get to the airport immediately to see if there was any chance of getting on the plane. Everything got chucked into suitcases, our boys who at the time were 8 and 6, thought it great. The suitcases were threaded through the front doors and off we went. We screeched to a halt at the car hire place and trying to look as though it was the most natural thing in the world to remove our suitcases through the passenger door ran for the airport. Check in was closed but they managed to get us on the plane and we had to take our cases with us. So not a disaster but DH and I aged 10 years. And yes I am paranoid about checking our departure date now.

So leading on from this emergency - where has the all the fruit juice gone? In all the supermarkets Robertsons has disappeared but so have all the own brands. Replaced by some brand never heard of and refuse to buy it. Oh well......

Dubai London Clinic Beach Road do direct billing. They check with your insurer first. Sarah is excellent.

We moved to JI 3 years ago and agree the villas are tired and do have maintenance issues. We have a fairly good landlord but end up paying for any maintenance. Water does stop suddenly and it seems to happen every week and then is ok. Our cluster is due to the main pump not working. Guys come out to fix the problem but it always seems to be a quick fix. I suppose we just get on with it because we look past the problems. I do love the paths to walk around and the landscaping is supposed to be getting better. Access in and out is quick and easy and it's peaceful. But I couldn't recommend moving in unless the villa has been upgraded. Also AC and DEWA are expensive. So would I move out? No because it has become home but I do think there are better options.

Hi - use Go Tours. My eldest son uses it every 30 days. It is easy and you can just sit back and relax. Book online first and it's cheaper. Do not go over your stay time or you will be fined and it's not cheap.

Thank you Daza. We are up to date with flights and all monies. She is advertising for another position and doesn't want to return to Sri Lanka. Her daughter has recently arrived and has started to work here. Any idea where we stand on the ticket back to Sri Lanka?

Most certainly the Cotswolds, Burford is lovely. Also Oxford, Woodstock and Blenheim Palace. There are pretty places to stay. Look up Secret Escapes where you will find reduced prices on very decent hotels, pubs etc.

We have decided to part company, more our instigation than hers, but trying to keep it friendly. Her visa runs out 28 Jan. We paid a bonus at the end of last year, more because we felt we ought to rather than for her work. Do we have to pay any extra for this month? We have always paid holiday, flights etc and have helped out on numerous occasions for family problems. We feel enough is enough and don't want to have to pay any extra but know she will be well armed on all the implications of leaving employment. DH told her she can finish at midday to give her time to find another position and I think she will be taking this to the maximum and finishing at midday every day. How much notice do we need to give - a month? Any advice would be appreciated.
