I think my all time pet hate is"we're guests here, if you don't like i,t go home" what a way a society to grow. sadly it's said in the UK constantly, which is one reason why i'm in no hurry to go home !!

throwing and pretending to beat up a baby isn't cute but yes you are right - we are both entitled to our opinions... but if it is so innocent why did you ask if it is weird or evil that you find it cute ? edited by Doubting Thomas on 03/12/2013

I don't find it cute and to be honest, with all the weirdos and pedos constantly trawling the net I think it's downright irresponsible to go giving them ideas.... just my opinion.

Can't believe this hasn't been mentioned yet - Bitstrips - what the.... DT I don't hate using it, just HOW certain people use it is annoying. For the most part it's nice to post piccies and coo over other people's babies. oh I love Bitstrips !! lol did a lovely one to take the mick out of my husband having a post-brunch snooze :D I agree with gushing over rubbish pics - i'd rather say nothing - as TDB says, there's a difference between being honest and being tactless.. fortunately i'm too old to have newborn babies in my feed, apart from grandchildren and I haven't yet had any with their own accounts !! lol

Have you told her to stop coming round? we did like twice.. and she still comes, now we just ignore the bell when she comes.. I suspect once you give money once she won't stop calling - how is she to know she won't get lucky again ?

I am very surprised about anyone in reality post real photos about themselves or what they do or where they hang out, so many people tend to *think* they are celebrities and keep- G+, Twitter FB and the list go on- First it shows me how empty their lives are, Second it shows me how they are looking for compliments from anybody - they know or not - to make them feel good about themselves. I usually do not like or comment on such things, however a friend posted a photo of her new born bundle of joy or got engaged .... more than this, it makes me feel strange about why people do this? what I post on FB is rather than funny stories or funny news, more than this I do not think I should post anything personal about me or my family, IMHO: people who do this should go and live in a glass house, so everybody can be updated about their daily life, posting personal things is so pathetic. gosh I'm really pathetic then !! yet you write chapter and verse about your private life on here..... do you feel it's different because you're relatively anonymous on a forum ? I think you just don't get the whole social network thing and that's ok, lots of people don't but you could maybe be a bit less rude about those of us who do !! the majority of us are just ordinary people, we don't think of ourselves as celebrities, don't need compliments to feel good and don't have empty lives - we just like to keep in touch with people and be aware of what's going on in the world, especially those of us who live a long way from home and are maybe keeping our children away from their grandparents etc.... But it's not for me to say who has the empty life, each to their own...

Unlearn cutting and jumping queues would be good. On roads, at counters, for buses, etc. First time ever today I saw someone scream through the queue at the garage and reverse in between the rows to jump into the space at the front pump... never seen anyone queue jump like that before...genius !! lol

Was wondering if someone faced this supposed scam, and more importantly to figure out what the scam was DH goes into a restaurant to order a takeout, and near the door, but at a spot not visible from the restaurant has a man with 2 boys, around 9 and 6 years old tell him: "i had a bypass operation and do not have money, could you order some Biryani for us along with your order", his first reaction is that it is an odd request but not a scam as the guy does not ask for money but asks for food instead. However, as he enters the restaurant, the younger boy accompanies him inside the restaurant, while the older boy walks outside and the man starts walking away from the restaurant door . The combination of these 3 actions sends alarm bells ringing and he prompty leaves the restaurant and drives off. I am 99% sure it was a scam of some sort, but the only possibility i can think of is something very sinister and not the usual fake wound scam. Can anyone tell or guess what was the scam ? That's actually freaky.. i usually get the saudi plate numbered cars telling me they need money for fuel to go back to their country.. i am sorry but you are driving a 4 WD Prado and you expect me to fall for your scam.. seriously these people.. but if your husband encounters this again.. i would report it.. i think he should report it now because if it was a lady it could turn bad.. just let him mention the restaurant and the incident.. how is it "freaky" ?

Unless its positive or constructive and i don't say anything. If you don't like something you don't have to say anything, why bring someone else down unless they are doing something wrong? A tacky photo is hardly worth being 'brutally honest'. As for people moaning about others checking in and posting photos, that is kind of the point of facebook sharing your life... if you choose not to fine but why complain about other people, unfriend them if you dont want to know. I have done this with several people some good friends especially people that like and share all those competitions, I dont want to know so i sort it out myself! Yes there are plenty of show offs but if you keep your fb to actual friends this probably wont be a huge deal. I wasn't moaning or complaining i was merely saying my honest opinion..checking in every place could be quite dangerous if you think about it.. especially if you have a stalker lol.. wouldn't that be freaky.. but it's not like you make the posts public... and as for all the people who "attack" you - why are they on your facebook in the first place ?? we check in all the time and post what we're up to - not to show off but because it's a laugh and the people back home like to keep in touch...everyone on my facebook knows i'm not the show offy type..it's just fun

she's just making a living.... Do you exactly know who she is DT? She is an heiress to the one of the worlds biggest hotel chains. She is well known for her status as a 'celebutante' meaning a person who does not work but inherits vast sums of money through family wealth. She does not need to make a living however does thrive on media attention. and ?

I have restrained myself from posting on this thread but no longer. I see all manner of behaviour here of driving - many of children of non western nationalities jumping around on the back seat or even, on the front seats playing with the steering wheel while the so called parent is driving! I do not care for this cultural 'thing' - predominantly and foremost it's a child's life at risk if in an accident - and there are plenty here because of the hazardous drivers have received their driving license from a cornflakes packet. OP, hope you do not have to visit your DS in a hospital or morgue because of your worries with your husband. Totally irresponsible parenting in my honest opinion. you really don't like it here do you ?? lol You are actually correct for once DT - no I do not because of non common sense!! I wish I could leave on the next plane but stuck! edited by Eleanorah on 02/12/2013 for once ??

Why can't we rejoice in the festivities instead of airing these pessimistic views? All your views are based on assumptions and not fact. If you feel that your landlord has increased your rent unfairly then take him/her to the rent committee. If the cost of living gets too high then maybe it's time to look at downsizing or living elsewhere. Complaining about it on the forum won't change anything. These are the issues of the global economy, not just Dubai and its expo win. That is what the forum is about - discussing, complaining - whatever word you want to use? That covers yogurt and the type of diapers you use as well ;-) and bragging about how many villas you have and not bothering to rent them, when some people reading will be struggling to find the "little money" that they need to pay in rent every month or quarter....

Buying second-hand car seats is not recommended as you have no idea of the history.... True. Yet there are hundreds being sold and bought online so obviously there is a big market for it. Why pick on this particular poster for doing the same? Yes, and it is still a better option than no car seat at all... What many posters on here need to remind themselves of is that most of the world does not live like them... And if it's been in any kind of trauma then it will be the same, not better than "no car seat at all" sorry, not picking on anyone, I was responding to the poster who gave links to Dubizzle ads... and I'm well aware of how the world lives, thank you. edited by Doubting Thomas on 02/12/2013

I haven't seen anyone share this and no nothing about it - this stuff is all over the net and Facebook recently took off a whole load of beheading videos... Can't understand why people want to watch such things or even talk about them - posting about them just gives them more airtime... Fortunately I don't have any friends on my Facebook who would be sharing anything like this...

My husband had a horrendous flight with BA when the aircon packed up - sat on the runway for an age while they tried to fix it - after take off the crew kept assuring him it would cool down shortly but it took the first 4 hours of the flight...We know things like this happen but it was the crew's couldn't care less attitude that was the worst part...We have always only used this airline as an absolute last resort - we love Emirates.

I said all expats who think that. Not all expats. As not all expats think that. There are still heaps of expats, HEAPS, who love it here, despite the different rules, and who love being part of the world that has been created, not trying to change it, or to sneak around the rules they don't think suit them. And those of us like that get crapped on and thrown in the basket with the ones who seem to hate everything about being here, but the pay slip. PAF is warming up now :) it's ok, I didn't expect you to answer anyway...

OOpsie, I just want to say something. This attitude that many expats have that they created the country and the country would be nothing without them so they can do what they want, is creating many problems for the next generation. Younger Emiratis see this as you being racist against their beliefs, and it creates such issues. My son is a half half and is going through **** at the moment as the full Emieratis have this impression of expats, that expats consider them wrong and handicapped unless an expat is there to pick up the slack, and it is making a lot of issues for the next generation. [b'>So, I wish all expats who think this country would collapse without them would just pipe down.[/b'> I am so sick of my children coping the anger that these younger kids have because of people like this. The peoplke work together to build this country. All benefiting. Stop putting up your I am Expat Here Me Roar flag, and go back to what it used to be - when expats respected local rules, respecte3d locals, and the locals respected them back. why do you always refer to expats as if you are not one yourself ?

"reason enough for us to miss out on Christmas morning" Us...it's not you that's missing out so much as your daughter and her maternal family...The best option would be to simply ask your daughter where she would like to sleep Christmas Eve but I fear that it's now been made such an issue of she may be afraid to answer honestly... Perhaps you could get together with her mother and discuss it and maybe suggest that in future you take turns for Christmas Day so you don't have this headache every year !! I like Fairy Dust's idea but sadly in my experience there are very few adults who would have the good grace and maturity to not make it unbearable for everyone !! You also have your other children to consider, making sure that their Christmas isn't spoilt by the endless discussions and focus on their step-sister...
