Why are people coy about using the word "sēx"? It's the correct scientific word to describe a completely normal, everyday physical process that is essential to the survival of the human race (and indeed all creatures). If it's censored on this forum, then it's going to be amusing when people try to post about Middlesēx University, which has recently opened in Dubai and is currently advertising on the radio. Will it pass as part of a word 'Middlesex' rather just as '***'? I was on a forum once that used to do that - substitute words with innocuous words like toast or hamster... met someone once who said she came from Stoasthorpe :D

Financial 'security' dependent on paid employment income, as opposed to wealth, is not real IMO....edited by Sugarbeach on 22/09/2013 I feel financially secure, and this is dependent on my and DH's income from our jobs. Obviously an income deriving from assets would be ideal and preferred, but that doesn't mean my idea of financial security is not 'real'. To me, financial security would be when there is a steady flow of good income coming from secure jobs which allows for a decent portion of savings every month while still being able to enjoy the finer things in life. But like you said, it's all subjective... Nowadays, if you are able to describe your jobs as "secure" then I think you are very fortunate..

It was intended to shock and sell, and it has, so its been quite widely reported in the media that this song alludes to rape. With half dressed women (while the men are fully dressed) just takes it down to the lowest basic level there is. How dumbed down have we become that something as derogatory as this is acceptable and viewed normally? The title itself is a clue, when a no could mean a yes. As an aside, his name is just, I have to stop myself giving an eye-roll, everytime I hear it. I read the blurred lines as her being a "good" girl yet wanting to get dirty....

ON a day when 59 people have been murdered in a shopping centre with more held hostage and 60 people have been murdered in an attack on a church with over 100 injured, you are worried about a song? Switch it off and worry about something important Who says nobody is worried about that? Just because it's not being discussed here doesn't mean it's not on anybody's mind. I have not heard the "song" or watched the video clip but out of curiosity I googled the lyrics. It's nasty. It's beyond nasty really and I can't understand anyone would like it. The lyrics are absolutely disgusting and yes it does glorify rape in a very smart and subtle way. Really what woman would like this kind of trash? I think the people who are complaining about the lyrics must have had to read them somewhere - I certainly couldn't make out half of what he was singing !! lol and if you think it's about rape then I think you must be misunderstanding something.... To be honest I don't think it's that bad, and certainly not as bad as some other stuff that's around.. Well that's what the song is about isn't it? The lyrics. Google them and read for yourself. It's vile, and it IS about rape. It's clear I am not missing anything since I stopped wasting my time on music all together. well, it's all subjective isn't it ? There are many things in this world that I find impossible to comprehend in this day and age but to be honest, pop music isn't one of them....

Yes,healthy food options are scarce unless you want to eat subway all the time. Been on diet and its always a struggle when going to the mall and everyone is hungry to find a place that has healthy options too. In addition to that, I would like it if grocery stores would stock [b'>low calorie cordials[/b'>. edited by Asti on 22/09/2013 I always buy "no added sugar" even though aspartame is really bad for you and in all honesty you're better off with the full calorie versions...

Ah, well if you aren't a registered business then markets will be your option. Have you considered souq.com? A lot of rubbish on there, but it is a platform. One candle a day probably won't generate too viable an income, though, unless you're selling them at 100-/each, and it is only for pocket money, and it doesn't suck up too much of your time. As an aside, I've not seen these here before but think they are cute and funky, and I love initiative. Others don't like initiative, they like good ideas, and a good idea by a person they know isn't running with it is a free idea. My advice, ask admin to pull this thread. Imagine turning up to Arte and seeing your idea there, and you had given it to them. I've never been on an Emirates flight that wasn't full !! Why would you expect to get a seat for free ? sorry, I don't get it... A 3 hour flight wouldn't be too bad to have him on your lap but i'd still get him a seat.

all the class mums we've had so far have been different, ranging from those who do hardly anything to those who text reminders every time there is something happening etc. And one I can't even remember !! I don't think many mums see it as being "chivvied" along, most appreciate the effort. Although there are plenty who are unresponsive for various reasons. For example, coming from the UK i'd never heard of class mum - the concept didn't exist in my schools so I didn't really know what it was all about.. So i'd say, send out a note introducing yourself, compile the class list (details of all the pupils and their parents' contact details - I find it especially helpful to put the parents' first names), keep everyone informed of special days etc and just generally be the link between the teacher and the parents...I'm sure you'll get some mums offering to help without having to enlist a formal assistant, unless you're comfortable with doing it that way... Good luck, i'm sure you'll find it a rewarding and thankless task all at once !! lol

Well, I did not know that a name could be changed. But it doesn't bother me too much, the count isn't important, and I still have it. I do not know the email address I signed up with, either. It is rammed in the mornings and in the afternoons for pick-up/drop-off, and virtually empty throughout the school day. Despite this, the school will not allow the car park to be used by their own staff. It defies logic. so the car park sits empty ? my teen reckons loads of parents park in it as well if they know someone to give them the code !! lol

The problem extends to the JESS staff too! There is not adequate parking provided for the school's employees let alone the parents. The staff are not permitted to park in the JESS carpark or on certain parts of the side roads... They have no alternative but to park in the Community Centre. The whole situation is ridiculous. so who DOES park in the car park then ?

wouldnt there be lots of other signs at home whilst living with an alcoholic??? No. People with any kind of dependency issue can be very good at hiding it even from those living under the same roof as them. But of course family may have a nagging suspicion at the back of their mind that all is not well, but it can take a lot to let it come to the front of your mind so quite often its left as a nagging suspicion because dealing with it is too awful to contemplate. my MIL was an alcoholic and she didn't hide it from anyone !!

Sorry, but that school should have planned for parking for its parents. Our community centre is not the place for them to be parking. name one school in Dubai that has sufficient parking !! lol

Is anyone else finding it a struggle to get a park at the community centre these days? Once again today I go to park and find every spot filled not just by people using the amenities but by waiting taxi's. It seems to be easier to head to Motorcity than use our own facilities. no, not noticed

The problem with the uni ones is that it is a whole lot of people wanting to network, but no one to network with. Equally non powerful people thinking they will meet powerful people. You're better off keeping your eyes on the exhibition centre, then when an event is hosted, turn up, pretend you're there for the event but worm your way into any events attached to it (the people working the event are equally powerless in most cases). Or, sit at DIFC restaurants everyday, around 2, and try make some friends. I agree to disagree :-) I've met a radio DJ, a local lady who is one of the most powerful women in the Arab world, etc...it depends on your own networking skills too I guess who you end up meeting. Yes, some events are a hit and miss but still better than sitting at home waiting for a job to pop up. when you say you've met these people, in what capacity exactly ? what are they doing there ? who is a radio DJ able to employ ? seems this is one of the things I dislike about Dubai - the endless "networking" (people with delusions of grandeur sweet-talking other equally deluded people) with only their own agenda in mind...all this self-promotion is so tiresome... in my opinion... Whether you like it or not Dubai IS a place where networking will get you further than a solid CV these days...sadly I know it all too well....I'm not here to explain myself to anyone, I met them in the capacity I wanted to meet them in, I was not searching for a job at the time, I simply went to meet new people. It worked for me. It might not work for everyone. If you don't have your own agenda in mind and don't self-promote please tell me who will get you a job in this competitive market? I'm not looking for a job.

my 9 year old still prefers wipes to paper but we're sick of him bunging the loos up !! lol So he mostly uses paper. Please don't teach him that you will finish cleaning him at home - forcing a child to have a partially cleaned bum is unhygeinic, sooooo uncomfortable and eventually will surely make him sore.. He should be able to manage the job himself by now, without help. And no, I wouldn't expect my kids to use the bum guns - way too messy and we don't have them at home so no need for them to bother, imo.
