tbh, i would check with the labour department... is his company a dubai licenced company or a free zone.... the problem is that they have brought in the rule that you get an employment ban for 6 months if you have been on a companies visa for less than 2 years..... but, in the past i do know that a ban was not imposed depending on your profession and there was also the option to pay to have the ban lifted if they wanted to go elsewhere.... obviously, with this new ruling... i am not sure if there are any loopholes.... so, why not give them a call and see what they say.....

You do need to read your contract with the company, or, the employee policies as with our company, a doctors certificate is required for 3 or more days.... The labour law is 15 days sick pay based on full salary after completing the probationary period but that is about it, it is very vague on what it classes as being sick leave...... If your company does not have a policy in place that you are aware of... you could question the deductions......

hi there i am sure that there are many different opinions but my OH has been in construction over here for the last 4 years and since the bubble bursting so to speak... he has not seen much of an improvement... still being paid late... still having to take unpaid leave due to cashflow problems due to the bigger companies not paying so I would say it is still a very unstable area..... however, many people in this industry are moving on to qatar as that seems to be where the jobs are being created.... but, if you have your heart set on being in the uae, i would seriously consider applying from over there and getting an offer before venturing back.... but, it really depends on what you are looking for :-)

It may be worth calling the courier companies as I know Fedex and DHL do a 24 hour delivery service between here and the UK and they even do an express one but the price does go up.....

Hi Michelle We have two cocker spaniel doggies that are still young and they are so affectionate but with most puppies, particularly the spaniels, they are very energetic and do require a lot of walking, training and playing which may not be the best way to introduce you to having a dog.... unless you have experience with dogs, a puppy can put a lot of people off due to the extra work that is required.... It is rewarding but still a lot of work.... There are many organisations here who are always looking for foster homes for slightly older dogs who have already had basic training and who are good with kids and cats etc etc..... this may be worth considering and will also help you and your family bring a dog into your home on a temporary basis which could become permanent.... HTH

yes... unfortnately, during eid... all of the hotels put their prices up as they usually get a lot of GCC visitors.... we have stayed in the rotana in fujeirah and it is very nice... the cove one in RAK is also nice but tends to be a little bit more expensive....i think the best thing is to shop around and also some of the travel agents do offers for eid so maybe have a look at a few websites.....

hi.... when you did your visa/labour card with them... you would have signed 3 copies of the labour contract english/arabic.... one is for the labour department, one is for your company and one is for you so it may be a case that the company has your copy.... it will mention whether it is limited or unlimited.... in regards to unlimited and limited, this is also tricky although i found this out a while back so not sure if the laws have changed.... if you leave on a limited contract before it expires... the company can ask for compensation and vice versa if a company gets rid of you under the same contract for a reason that is not stated in the labour law.... an unlimited contract is more flexible and therefore no compensation is requested from either party.... for gratuity... depending on how long you are there will depend on how much gratuity you get although i would advise having this information properly checked... if you work there more than 1 yr and less than 3, you are entitled to a third of your salary for each year... 3-5 years is 2/3's and more than 5 years is the full 30 days.... this is if you leave.... if the company gets rid of you, i think they have to pay 21 days per year upto 5 years and then 30 days afterwards.... I do not think an unlimited/limited contract is affected by this..... but, the new ruling whereby you have to complete 2 years with a company or you could face a 6 month employment ban is now in effect so you would need to check this out also..... it is possible to check the internet for a copy of the UAE Labour Law so maybe worth having a general read through and I am sure the labour office will be helpful if you gave them a call....... hope this helps.....

i think it also depends on the type of employment contract that you have.... if it is a limited contract and they want to terminate without any valid reason before the contract expires, you can then question the compensation clause up to 3 months 1/2 salary i think.... it has been a while since i was in that position.... but not sure if that is the same case for an unlimited contract.....best to check your UAE employment contract and check what your terms are as the labour department usually follows what is on the government contract as opposed to a company based one for the main issues.....

Hi Everyone Well..... my husband has had the unfortunate news of telling me that his company have put him on unpaid leave for 2 months as they are just not getting the money in to be able to pay the staff.... if anyone knows of any temporary work in the construction industry, this would be great as I am sure everyone over here knows... living in dubai without a salary is not always the easiest of things to do..... Or, if anyone has any suggestions, I am all ears :-) Thanks :-)

hi there.... i did a visa run at the beginning of the year when they had all the new border checks and did not have any problems.... you just show them your passports on the first 2 checks and then at the 3rd check you need to get out of the car at the portacabin and have your passport stamped out.... no charge and then at the check after that they will check the boot of your car and hand you a piece of paper..... you can then drive through to oman and park outside the border building and go in and get your oman visa which is AED 200 each... not sure if there is discount for kids...???? also, give them your piece of paper and they will stamp that also.... then, you just drive back and stop at the portacabin to get your entry stamp... they have never asked me any questions and i have done it many times......

hi.... we are not in the jumeirah area but we are in al sufouh near dubai college on a compound there.... it has security and 100 villa's all made up of 3 and 4 bedrooms and there is a waiting list.... all of the villas have a back garden and the front gardens are maintained by the compound.... the compound has a swimming pool, tennis courts, squash courts etc etc and also a bar and is very family friendly.... the company that runs it is al kawakeb property management and they do a very good job.... I have lived in dubai for many years and i must admit that this has been my best move so far, but, it really does depend on what you are looking for... amenities, area, size, budget etc etc...... i just thought that i would mention them as they do not tend to get advertised on dubizzle very much as they are usually quite popular.... also, i think the company may have some compounds in the area that you are looking for so maybe worth a call just to check.... i remember arenco used to have compound villas in al sufouh so they may also be worth a call.....

once you have given notice, if it is for immediate effect, they usually disconnect the next day and then the final bill is ready within 2 working days for payment and collection of the security deposit.... or, you can advise them of what day you would like it to be disconnected..... if you go on there website under customer service, it will tell you what paperwork you need to cancel and also how to get your deposit back :-) for your new place, you will need to apply for a new connection with desposit, passport copy etc etc and the form can also be downloaded from their website and it is usually connected within 24 hours.... hope this info helps :-)

yes, you are entitled to maternity pay after your first year of employment has completed, but, this is only applicable if you intend to return back to the company after your maternity leave...... in which case, the company is required to pay your maternity leave. i do not think, but you would have to check it legally that a company is obligated to pay for maternity leave if you plan to leave your job before you are due.... however, I would get this checked.

hi roysie.... zoco is right.... if u get onto the emirates road heading to sharjah and then take the al ain exit towards dubai and follow the signs to al wasl... al safa it will bring you accross so that you reach shk zayed road where the pepsi cola factory is and then you can come off the slip road to emirates college.... there may be less traffic this way rather than coming through al quoz as you will hit the morning traffic.... hope this helps.....
