LG, just to add dubai71 is right. There is hardly any waiting time. Dr Fakih spends mornings in AD and evenings in at the Dubai centre usually. All the initial test and scans are done by him. If you decided to go with him for treatment, then the stim drugs, scans and blood test are done by other Sonographers /doctors. Towards the end of the stim period (before egg retrieval), the scans are done by him. and of course the major part egg retrieval and embryo transfer are always done by him. All the best. Hi ivfuae. The scans towards the end were not done by Dr F for me, I had Madonna the whole time. Had the retrieval today and had to wait 2 and a half hours before being admitted- seriously unimpressed but think it was a one-off. So now a wee wait for me and have everything crossed. x

After the morning school run I go to the gym, get my nails done, food shopping etc. Grab some lunch. Pick younger kids up by 1pm - they have their afternoon naps I chill out for a couple of hrs...facebook, watching t.v, EW etc. 3pm school run pick up then straight into dropping kids to any activities they might have. I don't get back home until 5pm. Day done! you are having a laugh What is there to laugh about - I think that seems a pretty much full on day - do you know the poster and her circumstances no - why are people so jealous here - life is about choices - live it - get a life and stop worrying about what other people choose to do with their life! I agree with you Babyrat. However, it appears to me that some people with maids protest too much about how much they have to do. Ghetto Barbie's days sound nice, busy but nice- time for the gym, manicure, internet etc. A maid (or maids or legions of staff) is a personal choice but I think those with should recognise that it is a luxury, that it does makes their lives easier and not (in some cases) sound so hard done by.

dubai71, you've not missed it, the only screening it's had here was at the Film Festival. I can't remember where I heard it but I think it's going to be released here either the beginning or the end of February. /quote'> JHM, Meant I'd missed the boat on seeing Social Network here. Still looking forward to the King's Speech.

Hi dikane Sorry to hear about your miscarriages ;0( I'm doing IVF at the moment. For me it was the gynae's call but one we were pushing for. It was a case of trying for ages with only a miscarriage to show for it, my having endometriosis and (big factor) my age as I'm 40 later this year. Whatever you decide, good luck.

Hi I saw him for a couple of initial consultations and was pleasantly surprised to hardly be kept waiting at all (given my experience with other doctors). I am seeing him in Dubai so cannot comment on the AD set up but in Dubai a lovely woman (think she is more qualified than a nurse but not sure what) does the ultrasounds and blood tests and feeds the info back to Dr Fakih who then decides on any changes to treatment and she relays that to you. Hope that helps and good luck.

........ Vitamin E is good for scars, and you should get the liquid capsules and break them and use the pure vitamin E oil in them to rub into your scar.......... Someone has mentioned this to me before. :) Can i just pick it up from any pharmacy? Does Body Shop do Vitamin E oil? And it is pure vitamin E? Body Shop does do it. Both my brother and I have used it on scars and would highly recommend it.

Hi Dubai71, How are you feeling today? I had my first ICSI cycle last month - I thought I'd timed it well being over the Christmas and New Year period (thought the time would fly) but I don't think I could've chosen a worse time of year if I'd tried (no vino for a start - ow)! People react differently to the shots - for me, it was as if I had extreme PMT! It's only then that I appreciated how lucky I was to have such a laidback DH! I was SO moody and snappy with him and then I'd get teary knowing I was being a complete psycho *itch. Bless his heart, he took it all in his stride and was so good with me. I was also really nervous as I didn't know what to expect and was dreading the retrieval (which wasn't nearly as bad as I'd anticipated), so that just made me more edgy and tearful! Be easy on yourself - don't feel that you should be 'normal' as there's a heck of a lot of hormones coursing through you! I was on stims for 11 days and I did feel more like my old self for the last few days. Be kind to yourself, take it easy and hang in there. x Hey Gray Girl Sorry for the delay- I missed your kind message. I have felt quite a bit better today and yesterday, thank you. I think it's in no small way to reaching out on here and receiving some lovely helpful and thoughtful messages. I am not really speaking to anyone else about it so really do think that helped. You poor thing having the cycle over the festive period! We all need a drink to get through that! I hope that all's going well for you. Thanks again x

There is a product available from supermarkets and chemists to rid of stained nails. It's in the nail section where they sell the Scholls Party Feet products. I can't remember the exact name of it but it works. It's a double ended tube with a 3 step process and is simple to use. The final step is a clear lacquer which gives nails a lovely shine. I think that's the thing I used. The one I used was by Scholl and really worked.

There was a thread a wee while ago about getting NHS treatment as an expat. I think the answer was that you are not supposed to do so and that morally it is dubious. Here it is: www.expatwoman.com/forum/messages.aspx?TopicID=130770 edited by dubai71 on 17/01/2011

Hi Dubai71, you are completely normal given the circumstances! I have done 5 cycles of IVF and two of them successful. At times I was completely irrational and emotional, and it is only once I came through the other side did I realise how mad I was! Although god forbid anyone, especially husband, if he tried to tell me to calm down or that it was the drugs. It feels so real. But it really is the drugs plus the whole emotional turmoil, the what if's, the worry, the hope... I underestimated the whole thing - tried to pretend I could cope, it was no big deal etc etc, but really it is ****** hard going. For husband aswell, although they might not show it or talk about it as much as we want or expect them too. Sometimes I would rant that it was all up to me. And I sppose it is really. But they do worry about us in their own way. Try to give ourselves a break and remember this is a huge thing, both physically and mentally that we are doing. Hide away if you want - and keep talking about it. There is another great website called fertilityfriends.co.uk. Go to the international section, then Dubai. Loads in the same position as you. I went to Dr Pankash and Dr Fakih. Good luck. Think positive. And you are not alone! x Thank you so much Ant. It's helpful to know that other people react the same way as you really begin to wonder if it's just you. I'm not ranting (yet) but just really low and weeping all the blooming time. I tried posting on Fertility Friends to see if I could get a cycle buddy or something but no responses. I don't want to tell anyone at home, because I don't want them to worry and also don't want the pressure of them asking (more than they do now) if I'm pregnant. Also don't have many people here that I want to discuss this with and my husband has been away on business for 5 days- home tonight which I'm really looking forward to. Just feel pathetic and ashamed and want to hide away. I'm with Dr Fakih and like him, and the ladies there (particularly Madonna) are so lovely. I guess, like you, I underestimated all this and thought 'it's just a few injections'...! Thanks so much to you and DubaiCat for your support. x

Has anyone bought any of these shoes and found that they work? I walk a few kilometres most days so these shoes are supposed to work your muscles harder right? Im not looking for miracles just whether anyone thinks they are worth their moneyand give you a little extra toning? I have now got over the fact that they arent the most glamorous but still not too sure :( TIA I used to wear MBTs walking to/from work in the UK (6 miles a day). When it was really cold in the winter I used to swap them for my knee high boots and then when I went back to the MBTs it took my legs a while and a lot of aching to get used to them again. I took it to mean that the pains and aching was a sign that they were working- no pain, no gain and all that. So I think they do work but, as you say, they are not exactly glamour wear ;)

yeah I did have success (got a beautiful little boy), and you will find many others on that website, who are going to Dr Fakih and all the IVF clinics in the UAE. Its great, most of my friends here in Dubai, I made through Dr Fakih's clinic. Infact one of my friends from there will be giving birth hopefully tonight :). He is very good and I wish you all the best. If you want you can email me, if you have any questions, or even just for a chat. It is nice talking to people who have gone are going through the same experience. Let me know if you want to exchange email. Again I wish you all best, I hope you get pregnant soon. edited by dubai71 on 13/01/2011

I hear ya both... boyfriend and I decide to move out here 3 years ago after 3 years together. We hadn't lived together before moving here (we had been living opposite sides of a big city), no sign of a proposal. At our leaving party he presented me with a jewellery box... wasn't an engagement ring. Really thought I was being taken for a ride in terms of commitment and was on the count down to giving the big E when 6 months after moving here he proposed and we've been happily married for 18 months now. Good luck Emma :)

Hello friends, my husband, children (2) and I are hoping to move to your neck of the woods and I need some advice re finding a legal job for my husband. I am a teacher, so I know that I'll easily find a job (have already had an offer), the 'problem' is to find my husband (a lawyer) a job. I'm sure you'll agree that we'll not be able to survive on a teachers' salary alone! He has applied for various jobs using recruiting sites, but has had no replies. I was wondering if anyone out there might have better advice, or maybe a contact at a company that may need an in-house lawyer. I hope to hear some encouraging news as we're really excited to join you out in the Emirates. Thanks!!! So he is looking for in-house rather than private practise? What area does he specialise in and what's his level of PQE?

It is, of course, personal preference but AD wouldn't be for me. DH drives to AD 4 times a week- not ideal but he doesn't mind it too much and listens to podcasts from radio at home or keeps up to date on calls to home. We live the right side of town for the commute, the Marina, and cannot imagine trading what we have here for AD. But each to their own.

Hello Does anyone have information about the recent updated IVF and ICSI costs at the DGFC? I've tried calling but it has been difficult to get through. Also, I did read that freezing embryos has been disallowed. Is this also the case at Conceive? Lastly, any feedback on Eve Clinic in Sharjah? Thanks. Re feedback on Eve Clinic, we found Doctor Rima to be TRULY awful. Terrible patient manner and failure to provide information. I also understand the protocol she suggested was not the most up to date. I have, however, heard that Doctor Walid is good if you can be bothered with the schlep to Sharjah. I'm with Doctor Fakih and have so far found him to be really good. Good luck wherever you choose.

hi ladies, I just wanted to see if anyone was interested in a self-fertility massage that you can do on yourself - if so I can send you the info. I'd been trying for almost 3 years, and this was one new thing I did for the 2 months prior to falling pregnant, and my friend who was trying for almost 2 years also did it and is now pregnant. Of course I don't know if this was the one thing that worked - I had also been doing acupuncture with Dr Ou for ages, plus had really tried to drink more water and eat about 90% organic, so perhaps it was a combination of all those things or just divine timing, but I do believe it helped and I'd love to share it with anyone who is interested. Email me on caterina underscore strano at yahoo dot com dot au - I can email you the instructions on how to do the massage. It's very easy and soothing, you do it from end of period to ovulation. The massage is supposed to help with increasing circulation to all the reproductive organs, hormonal balance, helping a tilted uterus, can help to clear congestion from cysts and fibroids amongst many other things...check out this link - http://natural-fertility-info.com/fertility-massage My sister in law in the US sent me the DVD and I've written down the instructions (as I passed on to other friends) so am more than happy to send them to anyone. Hey Sydneygal I would be really interested to hear more about the massage. I will email you. Thanks in advance! :) edited by dubai71 on 10/01/2011
