So she sleeps most of the day in between feeds and for good stretches at night, but for some reason she simply refuses to settle in the evening. The last three nights she's been up and down for anything up to four hours in between 7-ish and midnight-ish, and even if we manage to get her to go back to sleep she wakes up soon after and starts again. Any ideas? I just can't remember what DS was like at this age.

Just a thought if you're on a tight budget - what about a Frog or a Gecko? They're essentially the same buggy, just older versions (the Frog was pre-Cameleon and the Gecko the one before that). There are a few differences but probably not so many you'd really notice much. I saw a Frog on Dubizzle last week for around 700dhs, I think.

Sounds to me like the owner and the agent have themselves a little 'thing' going on! No way should you have to pay 5 per cent again (when chances are you were already robbed when you paid the original fee).

I'm pretty sure we have that in our contract as well :(. Which agency did you use? And is yours direct from Dubai Properties or through a private landlord? We originally rented through DP but a couple of months after we moved in they decided to give our villa to a private landlord in exchange for other properties he'd bought that aren't being built. So I guess the private landlord will be doing the tenancy contract next year, and I'll be trundling along to RERA clutching a copy of the Gulf News article! We're all fine, thanks, srdoucet. Just a bit shaken up on the day (and DS learnt a few new words from his Dad). I think it's safe to say there are loonies in both Waha and Layan who shouldn't be allowed on the roads! I fail to understand why it's necessary to drive so fast on the road between the two communities but hey-ho, I guess it's the typical Dubai 'The rules don't apply to me' mentality.

I saw Dr Delphine this afternoon and she was lovely. Very kind, patient, understanding and sympathetic and just what I needed. She is able to refer you to a psychiatrist or a psychologist (Dr Hassan, the psychiatrist, is on leave until December 10 but Dr Anne, the psychologist is available). I'm seeing Dr Anne on Tuesday so I'll let you know how that goes. In the meantime, I hope you've managed to get an appointment somewhere and are feeling OK :).

I'm a bit confused about where you mean, but I totally agree there are some loonies out there. We were overtaken - as DH was indicating left for us to go into Al Waha - by some t0sser in a black Prado this afternoon. Had he hit us, he'd have smashed right into our two-week-old DD. As you can imagine, DH had steam coming out of his ears and a few choice words coming out of his mouth!

I found the comfiest by far were H&M, and I tried everything from dirt-cheap ones to 7s and Citizens of Humanity. Another super-comfy pair were by Seraphine and they do skinny too.

I called recently to get an appointment with Dr. Elsa and she's booked until FEB!!!! Will have to go with someone else for the interim *sigh* Don't worry about this. I know it's frustrating but as soon as you've seen her and you're officially a patient of hers, it'll be a lot easier to get appointments.

Is that the 12-week NT scan and blood test? If so, you absolutely don't have to do it unless you want to. It's entirely your choice.

PS DC camping at 27 weeks, were you insane????? I think I must have been. I was suffering really badly with acid indigestion at this stage and ended up outside the tent chucking up in the grass at 3am. Nice! We took a futon mattress with us which was woefully inadequate. Never again!

The lactation consultant popped in briefly after DD was born and I didn't see her after that. You could always pop along to the nurses' station and let them know before you go down to theatre, if you wanted.

Over the summer (from the UK) I went to Spain at 23 weeks, France at 25 weeks and then camping at 27 weeks. Had I not had all that booked in advance, there's no way I would have done it all. I was worn out at the end of it! Then I came back here at 29 weeks and that just about finished me off. Not that I'm ever planning on being pregnant again but if I was, I'd be sitting at home like a big fat slug, not moving and definitely not going on holiday!

Absolutely Dr Elsa. She delivered DS naturally last year, and did everything she could to ensure we could have a natural delivery even though we had to have him at 37 weeks due to pre-eclampsia. She also did everything she could to ensure I was making an informed decision about whether to deliver naturally or by C-section with DD, born last week. In the end we didn't have much of a choice but I'd say she was very pro-natural every time we discussed it. If you can't get an appointment with her as soon as you'd like, you can always have your first few appointments with a community-based doctor and then take all your notes and scans to her as soon as you can get in to see her.

I think it all depends on what you want, really! I know at home (in the UK) you wouldn't have a scan until 12 weeks but here you can go as early as you choose, within reason. ETA: Congratulations! x <em>edited by DubaiCat on 09/11/2011</em>

Dr Delphine at Motor City Medicentres has been highly recommended to me, as has Dr Campbell who's a midwife at Health Bay Polyclinic. When I called Medicentres yesterday Dr Delphine still had some appointments available this Sunday - I'm seeing her then so can let you know how it goes if you'd prefer a personal recommendation. Dr Fischer is another name that's been mentioned to me but I can't remember where he is. I hop you get the help you need. It's one of the worst feelings I've ever experienced :(.

Yep DH organised the whole thing while we were back in the UK in the summer. The guy is a bit of a muppet sometimes but overall the garden's good - I'll ask him for the number as well as the Waha office people when he eventually surfaces from the study!

I'm pretty sure the two opposite us are vacant but no signs for rent outside :(. The Dubai Properties office deals with both Layan and Waha, I think - DH probably has the number somewhere so I'll see if he can dig it out. I think the Layan office is in H38 or H48 or something like that. Our garden was a complete sandpit when we moved in and I think it cost something like 8k to get it done, but all the plants can come with us when we move. ETA: If you get a Waha one direct from DP the maintenance is included. <em>edited by DubaiCat on 08/11/2011</em>

Thanks all :). I think I need to be more consistent with the throwing thing, and just make sure once something's thrown it doesn't get returned to him and that's that. Hopefully it shouldn't take too long for the penny to drop! He's had one-on-one with Daddy all week, which he doesn't normally get, but then I guess I haven't been there so it's all been different for him. I wonder if Daddy throwing balls around all the time might have confused him? He does love playing with them. But I did point out the other day that DH threw a toy back into the toybox when it was tidy-up time, and that wouldn't help with us trying to teach him not to throw things :(. I guess we just need to make sure he's getting as much attention as possible but at the same time make it clearly understood the throwing things and smacking her isn't OK :(. Maybe I need to man up and stop feeling sorry for him because his little life has been turned upside down!

I'm pretty sure alcohol is often used as a disinfectant. Don't you use alcohol swabs to sterilise before needles? I'd say that's a good enough reason to have a wee glass of something! :D

Had a little giggle at the sandwich situation but just a little one because it hurt ;). That's a good point re being ignored until he shakes the basket. I just mentioned it to DH and we don't [i'>think[/i'> that's been the case, but of course things might look different from his perspective so we are going to watch out for this and make sure he's getting plenty of attention. He throws everything at the moment and this isn't a new behaviour. Any suggestions for how to curb this also welcome!

Thanks as always :). I'm just so wary of coming across as too harsh, given that it's such a huge change for him! But you're right, he does need to learn she's delicate and he can't be bashing her around. Well, for now, anyway! Taking him away from whatever he's doing wrong seems to be the only thing that's working at the moment. He has been getting involved, passing things along to me and whatnot though. If only books were an option. He thinks they're an after-dinner snack.

I would double-check that with Emirates on the phone, as DH has asked this before and they've said no. You can pay to use Marhaba lounge here, or other lounges depending on where you're flying from. I think in the UK some Servisair lounges offer paid access.

It's worth remembering that generally upgrades are done only when economy is full, so if your flight's not full down the back you ain't going nowhere! I was cabin crew for a while and I only ever came across a handful of upgrades where cattle wasn't overbooked (and they were upgraded because of previous stuff-ups or such-like). That's only with one airline, though. Perhaps other airlines have other rules and sucking up to ground staff might work :D. And edited to add; even if you've already checked in online, your seat can be reallocated to another passenger while you're upgraded. <em>edited by DubaiCat on 07/11/2011</em>
