That's reminded me - I did meant o post an update on that one. Last time we bought Du cards from the pharmacy downstairs but DH went down earlier and they didn't have any, and then when he stopped at the petrol station on the way home the lady there told him the regular Du top-up cards were only for phones. So I tried to connect to the Du wireless and it said I could use either credit card or our home Du account to get online. I used our home account login and password, which was half the price of using the credit card.

How can someone find out if I share a maid with other family? Does it have anything to do with third party's business? If the third party is the police/UAE government, then yes - it does! As the other ladies have said, it's against the law.

I don't have any but if you can get hold of pink paper, wire, a plastic hairband and some cotton balls you should be able to improvise :D. I also drove past a party store in the Marina the other day, down by the Yacht Club. Perhaps they might be a good bet?

Hmmm. When DH went to connect our villa there was an outstanding amount of Dh600 (thanks, Dubai Properties!) and he had to pay that before he could connect us :(. Dc your landlord should pay that -send him the bill xx Ta - we do need to get onto them about it. When we rented, it was directly from Dubai Properties who did say they would pay it. But then they transferred ownership of the property to a private landlord so now I have no clue who owes us. It's on DH's very long list of things to sort out! :D

MonkeyFace, this does not apply across the board. It depends on the employer - my DH has a totally different rule in place, as do I, and signed contracts with employers are binding. Do you mean some employers can get away with less? Or are some just super-generous and give more? I guess he needs to check his contract and see. Just saw a big sign at the Ranches - they're having fireworks on the 5th. I think it all kicks off at about 5.30. I'm still trying to decide if 17 months is too small to enjoy it or whether he'll just be petrified!

From what I understood from my doctor when we were trying, some people can find their fertility affected by weight and a reduction of only 10 per cent of your body weight can have a positive effect. If you think it might help, what harm can it do? Unless you're actually underweight in the first place, that is. I was a few kilos over my ideal weight for a good while and I did manage to conceive after I'd lost some, but there are so many variables I really couldn't say if it was the weight loss that was the deciding factor. For anyone looking at trying to conceive, I'd recommend reading Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler and registering on www.fertilityfriend.com. Both are excellent resources and will teach you a huge amount about how your body works and how you can give yourselves the best chance of conception. When you are pregnant, you can either visit a doctor at a community-based clinic or a hospital. The community-based ones (well, most of them) will have delivery privileges at hospitals so you can see the same doctor throughout your pregnancy and then deliver with him or her. If you pick a busy ob/gyn, it might be an idea to pop along and have a couple of preliminary checks to a) make sure you're physically in good shape to conceive and b) get yourself on the patient list so you don't have to wait months for an appointment when you do fall pregnant. Schools and all that can wait till later :D.

DH and I have been discussing gratuity payments. I can't remember the exact gratuity I got when I left my old job, but he says if you work longer than five years you get 30 days basic salary per year and I have a feeling I only got the 30 days for the last year and 21 days for years 1 to 4. Anyone have any recent experience to share? I'm crashed out on the sofa and haven't the energy to google. I know that's ridiculously lazy so apologies in advance, but if anyone's bored... :D.

Ah, I think I see what you mean. You need a travel system that can accommodate a car seat suitable for the next stage up and not just the first-stage capsule one, right? I got an email back from the lady who was selling one and she already sold it, sorry :(.

DC - I think your LO is around the same age as DS2, he moved into 18-36 mths a month ago....! next step duvet!!! Duvet?! Is it acceptable to then staple the duvet to the mattress so they can't get out?! :D

I see Dr Elsa at City and I've only ever had to wait if they're particularly busy or if she's been called away to an emergency, and they always, always give updates on how long it'll likely take. I think the most I've ever waited is an hour without an emergency, and I know that's been because she's made the effort to fit in a patient for a quick consultation who has had a problem that needed attention (no necessarily an emergency). I'm absolutely fine with that because I've been seen same day plenty of times when I've been concerned about something, and I know she's squeezed me in. Two hours seems a really long time, especially if they didn't keep you updated on what was going on :(. We had our anomaly scan at FMC and had heard waiting times there were atrocious, but we called as we were running late, ended up there half an hour after our appointment time and were seen within 10 minutes. We did have to come out and have a cup of tea as baby wasn't in the right position to check the heart, and then they took us back in again without seeing another patient in between, so that may have caused delays elsewhere.

I'm not sure. I've had some patches where I've been stressed up to my eyeballs with Dad being ill over the summer, rushing home, ridiculous amounts of travelling and all that cr4ap (granted, nothing like a war zone!) and have really been concerned I might have been negatively affecting the baby. So far though - touch wood - he or she seems to be absolutely fine and will hopefully be putting in an appearance soon. Have you read anything about ASD or other disorders being linked with taking anti-depressants while BF?

Interesting. I've considered going back to my doctor about my PND during this pregnancy, and I decided against it as I didn't want to take anything while I was pregnant. However, on the flipside I am now concerned about the effects stress has had on my baby. I guess I won't know for a while at least :(.

I know that feeling! Do you have a garden? We've been out in the paddling pool with the hosepipe the past couple of days. DS is older than your LO but it might still work if you get in too :). Having said it was too hot, it did seem an awful lot warmer a couple of weeks ago. I'm sure it would be OK now for a wee stroll around and then a quick lunch under a tree.

Go down Umm Suqeim road as if you're going to MOE and go left at the lights that lead to MOE. Instead of going to the mall, keep going until you see the huge new Emirates NBD on the left. At these lights, take left and stay in the right-hand lane. Barsha Park is a little way up on the right, down a sand track opposite a school (can't remember the name of it now). The entrance has orange and green tent-like things at the gate. I went a couple of weeks ago and it was still too hot. There are shades over the play equipment and some shady bits over a few benches, but for a picnic I think you'd need to find a nice big tree to shade you. It is a nice park, though.

That is hilarious! I am amazed mine hasn't managed that yet but I guess the sleeping bag has hindered him somewhat. So yes, we definitely need to keep him in it as long as possible too! I just got my Shop & Ship set up so sleeping bags are going to be my first order :D.

From experience, the only reassurance that made any difference to me was that of my doctor. I know you probably don't want to bother him or her for every little twinge but it's understandable that you're nervous and need reassurance! And they do understand this :). Mine was lovely at making me feel better with all the little things I worried about. It's all new first time round! Best of luck with the rest of your pregnancy.

Ta, I'll try both. More like little sod! I got to his cot this morning and he was waving the bag at me, and when I put him down for his nap he grizzled for ages. So I went to check on him and he was out of the bag, sitting in his cot with both legs wedged through the bars, dangling the sleeping bag over his cot pals he'd also launched out of the cot. He's in the one zipped-up one I do have now, so that's stumped him at least for a while.

Yes, I had all sorts of weird and wonderful feelings in my stomach in the first trimester. Sometimes period-like pains, sometimes sharp pains, all sorts. For me I think it was my body getting used to all that activity in there! It was worrying, especially first time round.

So how many days have you done in total? And are you eating healthily as well? I found I started to see results after about ten days, and I did it five days in a row in the week and tried for at least one weekend day as well. The other one was written off for a hangover :D. Don't give up. I know it's hard - I swore at Jillian and the TV far more than I did giving birth - but it's worth it in the end. Well, at least, it was for me because I knew I couldn't be bothered going to the gym for an hour!

The cinema should have a printout of all card transactions from the day so even if they don't have an individual slip for your extra transaction, they should still have evidence of it on this printout (I think).

On another note - I would like to know how my comments on the EW forum were PUBLISHED in a newspaper without my permission? After this I will no longer post on EW because I thought my comments were reserved to people who came here looking for advice and information about the region. Now my comments have gone out to any Tom, Dick & Harry who happen to read their newspaper. I thought it was illegal to plagiarize... this is a very important matter and journalists should check and verify all sources before they write such things. If I helped someone else out there to think twice our their kids, then great, but the principle and unprofessionalism from 24/7 really urks me. EW, do you not have any policies set into place for this? This means anything said on this forum can be published without consent? Furious for my last post... If you wrote a feature and posted it online and another writer passed it off online - or elsewhere - as their own, they'd be plagiarising your work. Here, you're making comments on a public online forum. Did the journalist attribute your quotes to the site at all, even just by saying 'so-and-so posted on the online forum EW as follows...'? Definitely lazy if not but as others have said, it is a public forum and your comments aren't the same as your 'work', if you like. In the journalist's defence, EW won't allow external journalists to access members, no matter how much they'd be helping the community by doing so. Well, the current mods won't, anyway. Just an alternative way of looking at it - if the story's out there but the only source of info is on here, would you rather the journalist quoted you and was lazy about it or didn't bother printing the story? Having said all of that, there's always the good, old-fashioned knocking on doors (or hanging around play areas) so from that point of view, the journo could definitely have done with a kick up the backside. <em>edited by DubaiCat on 23/10/2011</em>
