I read this before I had DS and I agree, it's inspirational. I loved reading it (although I had to cover up some of the pictures when I was reading it on a flight home!) and it gave me a great picture of how I wanted my birth to be. Sadly, I think having such a picture so firmly in my head meant that when my birth wasn't in any way like I wanted it to be, it made the whole situation more traumatic. Here's hoping #2 is a little more the Ina May Gaskin way!

We tried a similar approach but without picking DS up. We sat in his room next to his cot and patted him, and the first night he cried on and off for an hour and a half. He'd calm himself down, then realise he wasn't asleep and start up again. Then he went to sleep and slept for ages. When he woke next, he had his feed (in his cot) and went straight back to sleep. The next night he grumped for 20 minutes then went to sleep. And that was that - now he goes in his cot and goes to sleep, whether it's in the daytime or at night. Sometimes he has a little chat to himself - or whoever's sharing his cot - for a little while, but he never cries.

I'm sure she did when she first launched the range. Something about how the jeans lift and shape your bum to make you look like you're J-Lo? Or as J-Lo-ish as you can!

Don't own a pair. 600 is a lot to pay for demins :P Have you tried apple bottoms? I think you need to have a fairly.... ahem... apple-y bum to start with for Applebottoms! :D. What about Victoria Beckham's jeans? Didn't she design them to enhance your rear, as she says she doesn't have a bum and wants one?

Is it the jazz festival next week too? That might be fun if she likes music. I'm 100 per cent sure my MIL thinks we're loaded and can afford it, - which is so far from the truth it's not funny - whereas the world owes her a living and she's so hard done by, so she thinks we ought to treat her. We paid for her flight last time with DH's air miles (he promised her this as a birthday present without my knowledge!) and when she was complaining about how expensive everything is here, he pointed out she hadn't paid for her flight so she should treat herself. Her response? 'Well, you didn't pay for it either!" Yes love, apart from the tax of 400dhs. Thanks. Ungrateful cow.

I agree with happymommy, that book is great. I think Cecile works along similar ideas, from what I've seen. Of course you don't [i'>have[/i'> to sleep train if you don't want to or it's something that's not for you. But if you want or need to change your child's sleep habits, then I think it works. We went from DS waking anything up to 10-15 times a night to him sleeping through with a dream feed. I went from being a walking zombie, having trouble functioning from such awful sleep deprivation and literally banging my head on the wall in sheer frustration (once till I saw flashing lights), to being back to my happy, chilled-out self. I'm able to enjoy being a Mum now far more than I did when I was crying most nights after being woken for the umpteenth time. DS's paediatrician says new research shows lack of sleep affects many aspects of a child's development, from health to learning, and it's vital they get adequate rest. I can see for myself how being well-rested has changed DS; from a baby who constantly looked exhausted and struggled daily to get to sleep, into a baby who smiles all day, loves his activities and goes to sleep happily by himself whether for a nap or for the night.

I have a friend at home with two of the best behaved, most lovely mannered little boys ever. My DS is going for an extended stay at Auntie Sonia's School of Discipline when the tantrums start. One of my favourite sayings of hers is, "He is eleven months old [change age as appropriate'>, he is not winning".

Hmmm, fun and reasonable things to do with my mother-in-law. Encourage her to play chicken on Sheikh Zayed Road?! :D Last time the woman whose son I unfortunately married was here she went on a walk 'round the souks and took an abra ride then had some food at Bastakiya Nights restaurant. It was too hot/too busy/too dirty/whatever but I think it's a nice idea for the less ungrateful among MILs. If the Bateaux Dubai dinner cruise is in the Entertainer that's lovely too. You're a good woman for paying for it all. We shelled out for everything last time because my MIL is as tight as a wet knot but I will not be spending a fil next time.

I have a bum and hips. In fact, I think I might have acquired someone else's along the way too :D. Some styles don't look good, I agree, but try lots of them and one might suit you. The bootcut 7s I've tried have plenty of room for my bum and hips, as do the Sallys from Tommy Hilfiger. The Boutique 1 outlet at the Outlet Mall has hundreds of pairs at great prices. 7s, COH, Joe's, just about every brand I can think of.

I was there the other day and the guy next to us was there for this. He was given a form to fill in which told him what documents were needed - I think you can also find this info online on www.dubailand.gov.ae or www.rpdubai.ae. The land department is in Deira, alongside the creek. Go over Maktoum bridge and take the underpass, second right exit off the bridge, and as you come up the other side of the underpass keep an eye out on the right. It's a few hundred yards along, with a big car park right in front of it.

I found semi-disposable tubs in Geant, five for 20dhs. They hold enough for one meal with a bit of space and have lids. They come in two colourways - one for boys and one for girls - and are on one of the stands as you enter the baby aisle from the middle lane of the store.

Day 5 level 1 done. I'm so pleased I got it out of the way nice and early :D and I'm going to try really hard not to miss a day again, as I felt it was harder today having missed yesterday. Just one question about abs. My stomach muscles never joined back together after I had DS and my dr says I'll need surgery to rejoin them once I'm done having babies. Can I still do the abs? I feel like my tummy sticks out even more now than it did before I started the Shred!

I just had a free body analysis with VLCC at the market day thing in the Meadows Village car park. In a nutshell, I'm far fatter than I thought I was, my BMI is too high and my body fat is too high. So, even though my legs are killing me, I will be doing Day 4 this afternoon. With a vengeance.

Hmmm. That's a really hard one. My first reaction is that she's your dog and you love her and want her with you so that's the end of that. To cut all ties with family (or as near as dammit) because of you wanting to do something you planned to do all along is totally unreasonable, IMO. You've been honest with them and said the dog staying with them is a temporary measure, but it sounds like they've become attached, decided they want to keep her and not been honest with you about this. Perhaps they just thought you'd never ask for her?

Day 3 level 1. When she says watch Anita, she'll get you through it, I want to throttle her. Is Anita gonna come and drag my feet off the ground for jump rope? No? Then SHADDAP! Loving it. I was actually experiencing mild panic this morning when I thought my daily activities (i.e. looking after my son) might get in the way of my daily Shred.

Whoever took horses into the middle of all that melee wants whipping. Seeing the violence on TV was bad enough, but people can choose whether to attend the rally or not - the horses had no choice and were terrified. Disgusting.

A type 4E is two bedrooms plus a study, and it's an end unit. Type 4s are the smallest and 1s are the biggest, and in each type you have end units (E) and middle units (M). All Springs have the same types of villas. Some Springs seem nicer than others and location might be important depending on where you/your DH will work or where your boys will go to school, as some Springs have better access to main roads. We have a 4E and storage isn't great, but we make do. You can get outside storage cupboards installed in the car port if you need.

We bought our property direct from the owner with no agency involved. We did the MOU ourselves then we both went to the developer and the land department together and changed the registration from their name to ours. The staff at both the developer and the land department asked if we had an agent, we said no and that was that. Of course, things change all the time here so you might find you'll get a different answer tomorrow than you would today!

feel the same and when I told DH, he shrugged his shoulders.... ar$ehole perhaps you should have worded it differently. Men think along other lines. you mean write in on the back of a frying pan so he can read it as it comes flying towards him? Hilarious! They don't get it at all. They think you're asking them for a solution when all you need is to bend their ear for a while.

There really is. If you've got a chest infection you can tell the world, but if you're ill with a depressive illness - and it is an illness, like meals and Green-ish and HK have all reminded me on many an occasion :D - you don't want to talk about it in case people think you're weird. You actually feel more contagious having something like PND than I think you would with chicken pox!

I haven't BF him for two days and I actually feel a whole lot better than I thought I would! When I give him a bottle I can touch my nose to his and snuggle into his cheek :D so it has its own special moments. And, I don't feel engorged at all at the moment so it looks like it's coming to a natural end for us. I have been so lucky with the whole BF experience so I am thanking my lucky stars for this, for being able to have this with him, and not feeling so sad any more. She says, with a little tear...
