LOL - no worries, no assumptions assumed :D. I need a hernia repair and an abdominoplasty to repair my tummy muscles for various reasons. If a doctor tells me I need a tummy tuck, I'm not complaining!

We had difficulty getting DD to take a bottle and it was at a similar age. We tried Tommee Tippee, Nuk and Avent and she wouldn't have any of those, but she finally accepted the Breastflow ones AP mentioned and now takes her bottle with no problems. The bottle teat has two pieces - an inner, harder one and a softer outer shell - and is meant to allow baby to use the same tongue and sucking motions he or she would with breastfeeding. They're available in BabyShop and you can order the faster-flowing teats online and Shop & Ship (shout if you don't have an account and want to use mine).

I won't on principle, to be honest. The whole thing has been such a total mess and the attitude of the admissions staff was the icing on the cake. I know DH can be an argumentative pain in the backside when he wants to be, but there's been a total lack of transparency on the cost issue and I can't help but think there's more to it all than they're letting on. I have a couple of other recommendations for surgeons so I'll get cracking on that tomorrow. I'm sure it'll all work out in the end :).

Seriously, this could have been an episode of Fawlty Towers. After a day of wrangling with the insurance company and the hospital, we finally managed to sort it out. Or so I thought. The guy at the admissions desk yesterday morning refused to explain the costs to DH over the phone, so DH turned it over to the employee benefits lady at his work (who has been an absolute angel). She managed to clarify everything and get prices sorted, and managed to get the insurance company to cover more of the surgery. Then the admissions desk started hassling DH to find out a) if we were coming to do the surgery, and b) how much we were paying. Then they told him we'd have to pay upfront. He got fed up with being harassed at work and lost it with the guy on the phone. He told them we'd discuss the payment up front situation in the morning and left it at that. Then at 9 last night, somebody from the admissions desk - I have no clue as he didn't introduce himself - called on DH's phone insisting he spoke to me, even though he had my number, and told me he'd cancelled my surgery due to DH's 'aggressive behaviour'. He alleges DH swore during his conversations with the admissions staff and that he was threatening them. So, I am back at the beginning. I now need to find another surgeon and hospital. I really want to go and make a formal complaint at the hospital, but DH is worried if he did slip and swear (he knows he didn't threaten anyone) they could cause problems for him. What a mess.

Perhaps if they were less incompetent and argumentative they wouldn't have to put up with it. I've spent most of the day dealing with them and right now I'd rather poke sharp sticks in my eyes than talk to them again. I do see what you mean, though - I remember a friend was hit by a woman in MOE car park and she just drove off, and when the police arrived they were more concerned that this woman alleged my friend swore at her than with the fact that the woman had caused an accident and driven off. It's just been such a saga from start to finish, I think I might be better off finding a new surgeon and hospital.

That's what I'm worried about. At the moment I have no concrete proof he did use abusive or threatening language and to be honest, I've had enough today and don't need a sniping response on here. I'm looking for advice. Do you know for sure if it's legal to record a conversation if you didn't ask permission?

I haven't had breast cancer myself but in my previous life as a journalist I interviewed Dr Houriya at her clinic above Allied Diagnostic on Dhiyafah Street. She was the warmest, most caring doctor I've ever met and if I ever have the misfortune to need a doctor of her speciality, I'll be heading straight to her. She also runs Brest Friends, a support group for women affected by breast cancer. I just can't remember the name of her clinic, though - maybe Well Woman?

There was no message saying they were recording, no. I want to go in and listen to these supposed recordings but I just need to know if it's legal to record without your knowledge before I do, otherwise I'm worried if he did accidentally swear they might just call the police for the fun of it :(.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH. Seriously, I want to smack someone. I've asked the surgeon a zillion times how much I'll have to pay if my insurance won't cough up for the full surgery. Each time he's said about 25k. After I saw the anaesthetist this morning I went to admissions, and it's actually 33k. While it's not a huge difference, I'm just not happy with the lack of transparency. So now I am in limbo YET AGAIN! I'm just waiting for the employee benefits manager to get back to me from DH's work then I'll decide.

Just a little update for anyone still thinking about this procedure. I went for my pre-op appointment with the anaesthetist today, and while I was there the admissions office called to ask me to come in and go over the billing details, as my insurance is only covering the hernia repair. So I popped along. After me asking the surgeon about the cost several times, and being told it was in the region of 25,000dhs, the admissions office now say it's 33,000dhs. I asked the staff member there to explain the costs to my husband on the phone, as he was at work, and he actually refused to speak to him and told me to get him to come down! So, back to the drawing board I think. I'm not happy that the hospital have been less than transparent with the costs and I was absolutely appalled with the admissions guy's attitude this morning. LadyNomadica, if you could email me on harpersdxb at gmail dot com I'd love to see your before and afters :). ETA: I had reports from the plastic surgeon, general surgeon and neurosurgeon all saying there's no way I'll be able to get my muscles to rejoin without surgery, and even a report stating that I'll be facing a vertebrae fusion surgery in a couple of years if I don't do the abdominoplasty now, but the insurance company still wouldn't cover it. <em>edited by DubaiCat on 26/03/2012</em>

So. Tomorrow I see the anaesthetist and Tuesday 8am they get to slice me open, tie me up and sew me back together. I'm going to be like one of those bears from the Bear Factory. I can exercise again six weeks after the surgery, so I'm looking at May 7 to start my first Shred post-op. Who's up for it? GQ I haven't really got going with Slimming World as I was bf DD so I just relied on that to shed the pounds :). I didn't lose as much as I wanted to but it's going in the right direction I can give you a great recommendation for SW, though. My sister is just about to get her five stone award :D :D :D :D.

My sister had a third-degree tear with her second and had to be taken to theatre to be stitched up (with an spinal) afterwards :(. But she's absolutely fine now and has no after-effects at all. She had to see a physio a couple of times and that was about it. There's a physio here who specialises in post-birth physiotherapy, a lovely lady called Christine Forbes at Primavera clinic in Healthcare City. I wish I'd discovered her after my first was born!

Thanks ladies! A website is a great idea :D and I know someone I'm pretty sure would help out on that front. I shall corner Andrea for a cup of tea and pick her brains about the FB group. I guess I just want some kind of starting point to be available for any woman who feels she may have, or be at risk of developing, PND. I know how utterly lost and alone I felt after I had DD and I literally did not know where to turn. I reckon a FB group for those who feel confident joining, and a website with a group of volunteers/members who will reply to messages asking for support and/or information would be a good start :).

When you say he should have stayed home with you, could he have done? Is it possible or will I screw up his chances of getting into a good school if I don't send him next year? I feel so unprepared for all of this! :( Thanks, fairycakyumm. I didn't realise it was actually nursery so that doesn't seem so bad, but I still don't know if I'd want him to be there all day five days a week. My niece and nephew in the UK went to pre-school, starting with three mornings a week then five before they went to school but not full days.

Will do. I had a feel last night when she had her bath and I can't make out if there's even a bump there any more, but definitely no scar or mark. You are NOT stupid or ignorant! Or, if you are, I am too :). You're a busy mum and not a doctor. Give yourself a break. If it makes you feel any better, DD still hasn't had her 8 week vaccinations as her passport took a while and then DH was away every week for ages so we couldn't do her visa. Now that's lax parenting!

I forgot about the Verve - I think it's very similar to the Vibe but four wheels, is that right? If so I saw one in MOE a few weeks ago and it looks great. Three wheels annoys me sometimes as going up steps the buggy tends to swerve to either side :(.

As far as I'm aware, PND isn't the only type of depression caused by chemical imbalances and even then, I understand PND will - in the end - resolve itself over an extended period of time, as may other types of biochemical depression. Whether you're prepared to live with the symptoms until the illness goes away of its own accord is another matter, though. Feeling down only for a short period of time isn't necessarily a sign that medication isn't required, either. Depression can hit you in a matter of days or even less. And I'm sure many doctors prefer to take a conservative approach and see if counselling alone will be enough to treat the depression, especially if the person really doesn't want to take medication. Perhaps I'm missing something from earlier posts (it's late and DD kept me up most of last night!) but I haven't read that something's happened, as a result of which hiccup's upset. From her posts I understand she's feeling totally out of control and pretty awful. I don't get the impression she's not prepared to learn to deal with what life throws at her, or that anyone's suggesting she run for a bottle of pills because something's upset her. In fact, I think that statement there is dismissive of depression as an illness on the whole. I'm probably a little too close to hiccup's situation to be objective so I think I'm better off leaving it there and going to bed. hiccup, I hope tomorrow's a better day for you :).

PS: 'Indifferent' is exactly how I felt after my first session with the counselling psychologist. I guess I expected to feel wonderful immediately! But I felt indifferent. A few sessions down the line and I can see exactly how it's helping me so hang in there and keep going! And PPS: Don't tell him, but my DH was worse than useless on a number of occasions when I was at my lowest. He simply didn't know what to do with me or how to cope with me. He made me feel a thousand times worse more than once (unintentionally, of course). I think he was trying to pretend it would all just go away, too. <em>edited by DubaiCat on 14/03/2012</em>

It is a terrible feeling and I had moments when I thought I'd never feel like myself again. Truly horrendous. But every tiny step you take towards getting help is a tiny step towards getting your old self back. It really is. So many women have been in the same boat, but not everybody wants to talk about it. I hate talking about it - I feel like such a failure and a weirdo, and I can't help but feel it's just so damn unfair. But I force myself to talk about it in the hope that by doing so, I help someone realise they're not the only one, it's not their fault and it's OK to have this illness. You will get better, I promise. You just have to take that first tiny step and keep taking those little tiny steps. They might feel like giant leaps to start with and hurdles you can't get over, but you can.
