We used Allsopp and Allsopp for finding our villa at JVT. They were very professional and I'd recommend them.

Thanks very much. We're moving at the end of this week so I'll pop down to their customer service place and sort out a service transfer then. Hope you enjoying your new pad!

Looking to move to JVT and wondered if it was serviced by Du or Etisalat? We're currently on Du so it would, theoretically, be easier if I can just transfer my service rather than cancel it and start afresh with Etisalat.

yeh hire a car, and remember there are cashless tolls in around miami. There are various tolls in Florida but that is now taken care of as all the rental car agencies now include a package to cover this ( by law) - choose your car hire with this in mind as it is a PER DAY charge regardless of whether you are using the tolls or not - about $12 a day ( usually to a limit) but varies from company to company! They did away with the ability to pay as you use and it is all now deducted automatically as you go through the tolls. IMO the pre-paid method generally works out more expensive though as the tolls don't normally add up to $12 per day unless you're driving around a lot.

If you want to go to any of the feature character breakfasts/dinners, such as Chef Mickey, I would advise booking in advance too as they get very busy. Also, take advantage of the fastpass system at Disney and Universal Express pass at Islands of Adventure/Universal Studios to reduce your waiting times on rides. Make sure you have some 'quarters' too for the toll roads around Orlando. edited by DubaiCheekyB on 12/05/2013

Thanks lincolnimp - we're not great gardeners so won't be watering lots of grass and definitely won't have a pool! Hence, hopefully the bill will be around 1500 in summer and 7-800 in winter. Not as bad as I thought. :)

Thanks GG. I'll head up their this afternoon to see what we can find. I imagine most of the shops will be open in the afternoon rather than split shift. Hope so anyway otherwise it'll be a totally wasted journey!

I hear that that things are a bit tight there right now and that all shops are not opening ( if you get my meaning)- just for your info. Someone I know was just there . Pity. Do you also know if they are open in the afternoon or if they are split shift (morning/eve only)? I've never been myself so don't know much about it - am just putting Street 18b in my satnav and hoping to find it!

Yes a comforter goes inside the duvet. But you typically don't put a standard comforter inside a duvet. For example, we have a comforter on our bed and it's the thick, warm comforter, but it's in a gorgeous pattern that matches all of our bedding so I wouldn't want that in a duvet. We have a duvet but a plain, white down comforter goes inside of it. But if you have a thick comforter and it's getting a bit dated and you'd like to change the look of your room, you could buy a new duvet in a color and design that you like and slip that old comforter into the duvet. Does that help? Yes it does, thanks very much. I didn't realise a down comforter was the same as I would term a duvet. We're furnishing a rental property so I need to have duvet covers which can be washed easily after each rental. I'll be heading down to the shops now knowing what I need to look for (a down comforter with a duvet cover!). :) edited by DubaiCheekyB on 19/02/2013

So what they term a comforter is what those in UK would term a duvet? i.e. the bit that goes inside the cover? edited by DubaiCheekyB on 19/02/2013

Got one today from Dnata and I was surpised how quick and easy it was. For anyone who needs to know in future you need your UAE licence, passport with residency visa and 2 passport photos. Fee is now 200 AED. Next port of call is trying to find the best Orlando car rental deal! you do know that you dont need it to drive in florida if you have an english written licence, yes there was talk that an idp was required in florida but its just been revoked. I read and was told by my management company that a new law came in on 1st Jan: http://www.ama.ab.ca/travel/international-driving-permit-#Florida edited by DubaiCheekyB on 18/02/2013

I presume the green paper licence part is still valid though isn't it? i.e. you can just apply for a new photocard when you live in UK again without having to re-take your test? I hope so - don't want to have to take my driving test again! if you have the old one and its still valid ie you have told them of any new address then you dont need to worry about changing to the new photocard ones. but again its an offense if you dont tell them of any new address. yes you will not be required to take your driving test again, which is what scares most people. your licence is valid but not your photocard, which they have brought in and so has to be changed every 10 years to reflect the biometric data, same as getting your id card redone every 2 or 3 years now here in uae to update the biometric data etc. That's good to know. My photocard expired 2 years ago but I still have the green counterpart which is valid until I'm 70. I'll just get a new photocard when I eventually retire and move back to UK. Although I never told them I moved to UAE and have sold the house that appears on my green paper part - what do I need to do about that? After all, I can't change the address to my UAE flat and I don't have a property in the UK. Does anyone know if you can rent a car in the US using your UAE driving license? edited by DubaiCheekyB on 12/01/2013

I've always heard it was banned, based on the 2008 incident (I was here when it happened) but I've never seen it on the banned list. Mind you, I went online to check out the various lists last night and all the relevant pages of the relevant websites, had nothing - so I referred to my 2009 list someon had posted on EW. Out of curiosity what was the '2008 incident'?

Does this mean that they can tell us close to the expiration date that they will only renew at an increased price and reduction in the number of cheques then? If so, it looks like we'll need to start looking for somewhere else to live! :( edited by DubaiCheekyB on 08/06/2012

Is Premium Economy on Virgin to Heathrow the nice new 'purple seats' or the older version of Premium Economy seats? Back in October it was still the leather seats it has been for years. I don't know if it has changed since, but Upper Class is still as it was back then, so guessing not. edited by mich72 on 16/05/2012 Bummer - I'm going PE for work and was hoping for the good seats! :(

We have the same clause and our landlord is also trying to increase rent, so a definitive answer on "landlord discretion" would be useful Ours has that clause as well. I've tried the RERA calculator but it says no 2 beds in Dubai Marina found. Does anyone know if the landlord will be able to increase the rent or not?

I'm actually working in Downtown Jebel Ali at The Galleries. I just knew it!! I had to go to a bank at "the Galleries" last year and drove past 3 times before working out how to get in. I could see it from the road but only managed it on the 4th drive by edited by Jodel on 08/04/2012 I did the same the first time I went to the office - got it down to a tee now though!
