Yes, you will need to spell it out at least the first couple of weeks until you ensure she does things as you want, with your standards. Laundry is a mystery, to many. I have had lower paid household helpers who do a fantastic job, creative, smart, and working with heart. In every time, I find it necessary to guide them to how I like things done, while I am open to their suggestions. In the end, helpers are not really trained anywhere, per se, they just go by experience. Maybe this one has never done any laundry before, or just not willing to make any effort. You will need to put an effort with her to lay your rules, in all aspects of the household work (not just laundry). I did not understand the part about training her after 2-3 years, it would be extremely awkward that she is not catching up, yet, and from your end being patient with her after all these years. Not sure. All the best

You're kind-hearted, indeed. I would NEVER let anyone use my bathroom, and if it is an absolute must, you would allow them only on the two days they are working for you. You can also teach them how to clean up after they are done, and have them spray Dettol, or whatever disinfectant/hygienic products you tend to use. Your house, your rules. Rest of the week, a big fat no. There is no sense in this, not justified, and IS dangerous. You are not supposed to put up with this at all.

I really don't know. I've been looking for a couple of Japanese food items, but failed. I tried to order online from a Japanese website, but found out they didn't deliver to the UAE. So, whenever I crave miso, tempura udon, and mochi ice cream I just order in and dive in...:)

I wish I could be of any help. I never attended public holidays in Dubai, always out and about. I think it is better that you'd call the place you are planning to go to, and just ask them.

I agree, I parked my car there for about 1 hour, came to find about 6 cards tucked in my door's side window. While removing them, one slipped into the bottom of the door, it could have jammed the window. It is never out to date!! But I see many jogging there, any a couple of new restaurants, and many yoga and nail places. It lacks green big time.

Hi I see this thread is from 2013, has there been any movement on a Saturday coffee morning for working moms? Hello, I've just proposed weekends and evening events and inquired about that a few days, but no response, yet. http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/topic237418-smaller-meetups-on-weekends-or-evenings-forum23.aspx

Hello Ladies, I've been on this forum for long, but been away for over a year. I am back in Dubai, now. I was just wondering is there anyone else feeling that most of activities are in the mornings and not much is offered for evening or weekends get-together's? Just looking for events for a walk, a chat over soft drinks, attend a concert, play tennis, scuba dive, or an afternoon on the beach on a weekend. Do we have any events of the sorts here?

Thanks - I will do - much appreciated :) I am not a mum, but would love to meet up, if that's ok with you. Anytime after 06:00 PM, or preferably on the weekends. Let me know.

I'm looking for a good venue doing some promo on drinks in either Tuesday or Wednesday, which will be suited to ladies over the 40 mark .....most that I've seen seem to revolve around dj's and dancing, which isn't what I'm looking for!! Nothing wild or mega-trendy, just looking to enjoy a few reasonable priced drinks! I know what you mean. Actually, you don't have to be over 40 to want to enjoy quality time without all the noise and the big gatherings. Age is irrelevant. I was also on the forum looking for something sociable, friendly and less noisy anytime after 06:00 PM, and specially on the weekends. So, you're not alone in this my friend..:)

Hi Ladies, I have been in Dubai for 3 months, my other half works and is away a lot. I am not working yet so just spend most of my time indoors. I am driving myself crazy not meeting new people and going out, please can anyone suggest any groups to join to meet new people Thanks D I hope you make friends soon, or at least get to meet new people. What are your interests?

I've dived there, I was not disappointed, got to see some nice aquatic life, but not sure about snorkeling, specially that visibility isn't always that clear. Let us know..

It's never too late to change career, I did twice, and feel so good about myself. Along the same lines as yours, I also pursued Global Masters and I am almost same as your age. All the best.
