And NO! 3 km a day is NOT PATHETIC! To all of us trying to lose weight, get fit or live a more energetic life it is a great start. Before starting this program I was feeling very low with lots of blood sugar related health problems and the doc was trying to prescribe anti depressants. Now feeling great although the next step is to cut some calories and portion sizes as don't seem to have lost a pound despite lots of exercise, no drink and no chocolate!

I love this thread! Such a lot of positive people. I also started the C25k just before Christmas and with a couple of blips just about to start week 6. Yesterday I ran for 20 mins non stop on the treadmill and came off red as a beetroot but very happy. The buzz from the intensity of exercise really spurs you on to the next run and week and I am surprising myself. Thanks to this thrread also using Carli's Running into Shape podcast and loving the music. By far the best podcast I have found so thank you for the recommendation. Also, I am just reading a book called "Run Fat ***** Run!" Although a lot more tough a regime there are loads of positive things in there including her alter ego the Grit Doctor who spurs me on when I feel too tired to go and do it. Would thoroughly recommend the book.

I second the Dental Studio - I see Dr Jaco and he is also amazing. I am also scared of the dentist but going there doesn't worry me! Although not cheap they are on a par with the other dentists but don't try and sell you cosmetic work etc. All the staff there are great.

She is not a persian! Also, as Fosterer I was not told that she was 'special' in any way or that she would be a more expensive donation for prospective adopters. Still baffled. I have had cats for many years and am responsible pet owner having spent a fortune taking my cats with me when I left Dubai and bringing them back with me on my return. Over the years I have fostered and rescued cats often finding them new homes and sorting out the vets fees without bothering feline friends as I know they are a charity and of course know the donations are key. I am happy to pay a donation. Just not that much!

Ok thank you! I have just been asked for 1500 dhs for a cat I have been fostering. I've had her since October and have become very attached. I can't pay the 1500 and feel very upset. In the time I have had her I have volunteered to help FF and not once been told to bring her to an adoption day. Don't understand why they are asking me for this amount of money.

I was seeing a lady at Le Contour in JLT - microderm was really good for my skin but she was also excellent at telling you what to use afterwards. I haven't been there for over a month but was told by a friend she has left! Worth a go though? Also The Cure in Media City good facials with Microderm.

Just searching through all the info about Cockroaches! In the last couple of weeks I have found some dead ones, seen a large live one (sprayed) but also a couple of very small ones. Does this mean we HAVE cockroaches or are they coming for a walk? Reception in the building tell me Pest control come in monthly but obviously not to all the apartments. Living half way up a tower of apartments is this inevitable? Surely even pest control can't stop them from coming in from other apartments via drains and AC etc? Urrrggghhhhh! Help and advice please?

I just wanted to say I was inspired when reading your 3K thread yesterday! Also the responses about the podcast and run round Safa Park... Tried the podcasts a few times before and never made it past week 6 however this time I am determined! So... this morning I went to my training session at Concept 10 and then did the first of the week 1 runs! Feeling great - a good way to start the new year and week. 3K is not pathetic - it is a good 30 mins of exercise the recommended amount to promote better health and fitness. The feel good factor afterwards helps you to feel stronger mentally and physically. Go for it! And thank you for sharing your thoughts on here.

Ok thanks for the replies but we were hoping for a focussed dash in and out of one area esp as will be with children. I have only been to DragonMart once before and nearly lost the will to live in the power tools section so wanted to avoid all that. Looked at the website for the broad areas but not terribly helpful. Will have a go!

It depends on the nursery - most here are unlikely to employ qualified people although i can think of a couple that advertise for NNEB or equivalent and provide a package. It also depends on her qualifications - if she is Primary qualified she is likely to earn more or get a better package with a school here rather than a nursery.

Recently purchased an almost new car from Al Futtaim auto mall on SZR. Having considered many options including a new car from Kia and Ford I ended up with them because of the great customer service and female sales person! The other dealers lacked communication skills and I seemed to be doing all the work in phoning them asking for info or availability etc. In a city where most customer service seems to be in your face "Can I help you Maam?" I had the feeling the car dealers must be doing such great business they didn't even need to follow up or return a phone call! Margarita the salesperson at automall took my initial enquiry but phoned and emailed me several times to offer new stock etc. She has also been patient and helpful at every step! If anyone is thinking of buying a used car or just looking please do go in and see her.

I have had Microdermabraion 5 times to brighten my skin and help with some scarring from spots. It has been fine - very mild and instant effect and the scarring has really reduced. Along with a gentle peeling cream to use at home I have been happy with the results and the therapist's advice. You have to keep out of the sun after and use some basic products such as panthenol on the skin for a few days. However, I still have occasional other facials such as Dermalogica or Elemis which give good results for 2 or 3 days. Ultimately it seems to be the massage and my general health which effects the skin.

Snakes, big bugs, mosquitoes, rats bigger than cats, earthquakes, rain and storms with thunder like you have never heard, flooding, intestinal amoeba, poverty, dengue and other disease, children begging at your car windows, being stuck in traffic for hours on end, bad healthcare and hopeless doctors, watching whole families living in handcarts and picking rubbish from bins, corruption, dishonest police, car jacking, no seasons, humidity, few pavements and depending on a driver, low light and gloom as the sun only shines for a few hours every morning.... The list of reasons not to go are endless! It is a hard place to live. Proximity to Singapore etc is negated by the fact that it can often take double or more the expected time to travel anywhere for no particular reason. It once took me 4 hours to travel a 45 minute journey. 7 hours to get home! Kemang is one of the nicer areas but I once came out of a very nice restaurant had a rat run over my foot. After long periods of unexplained illness the doctor told me not to eat anything grown in Indonesia as it is often fertilised with human excrement thus . Trips out of Jakarta made my heart sink as it all only got worse! Went to a luxury villa retreat in Puncak and ended up with fleas and bed bug bites all over me. ON the plus side it was a life changing experience and the butterflies were amazing. The Indonesian people are amazing and live with incredible dignity alongside horrendous poverty and corruption by the police and government. The divide between rich and poor is huge although there is an emerging middle class. The staff we had were amazing and very honest although there were many stories about others who were not. Average wage for a maid per month is around 500 dhs. Don't agree with what a previous poster said about the shops! One or 2 decent malls but the stock in Marks or Debenhams didnt change for months and months and was already about 6 months out of date. Even in the most modern and western malls tiny locals will stare and giggle at us as tall westerners. Even worse, when shopping the smell of durian and dodgy freshwater fish pervade all around the shop and beyond. Easy to get Australian and some american products in the supermarkets but things like tinned tomatoes would disappear for months. If you really think you have to go there visit first and take the things people have said on this thread really seriously!

https://www.education.gov.uk/publications/standard/publicationDetail/Page1/DCSF-00261-2008 Have a look at this link for the EYFS which is the UK early years curriculum devised by experts in early childhood. The curriculum is the best the UK have produced for the early years and relates more the excellent practice in Australian EY's and Scandinavia. The end of Foundation Stage expectations are for children to have had a go at writing numbers and other symbols in play situations NOT writing them on meaningless worksheets. If your FS1 child is happy to have a go and can tell you what their mark making means then that is great. Beyond that they may begin to recognise the numbers related to birthdays and other meaning ful events. I would be interested to know the school, the teachers knowledge of the EYFS and their understanding of child development! You could ask to have a look at the curriculum with the teacher so she can show you where these expectations are coming from?

Park in Fashion car parking ( the first turning after leaving SZR) if you carry on round to 1A 1B there is a fountain in the car park. Go into mall with At the TOP on your right and you get straight outside by More cafe and Vapiano. I left there about an hour ago and spaces in that area!

I cannot recommed Ted Morgan highly enough! I don't put many posts on here and have to feel really strongly about something before adding to the comments. With mad curly long and hard to cut hair I had lots of mediocre haircuts with no real style. First went to Ted Morgan about 6 months after they first opened after seeing someone elses short cut - she looked amazing. When I have had my hair cut there it is easier to style myself and lasts at least 8 weeks. Having just moved back to Dubai after two years away I booked myself in for a cut the day i arrived, going again this week. While I was away top priority was booking myself in when visiting or passing through! Just to add more praise since my last cut people keep saying how great my hair looks. ALL rthe ladies are fab plus they give you a great head massage with the conditioner. Hope you enjoy your new hair!

Never had the AC on all the time - all night maybe but only in the bedroom. My bill measures the usage via a meter - hope it isnt true about the ac or I will be moving soon too! The managing agent assured me this is not the case. Have you looked at Madison Residency in Tecom? I saw a 2 bed there for under 70,000? AC included!

I moved into a 2 bed in JLT at beginning of September and my first AC bill was 600 dhs! I am now making sure I switch it off when not in the room and using it less anyway now it is cooler. I guess that by November / December it will be halved or less so averaged out over the year not too bad. The DEWA bill was only 45 dhs for the month which I thought was very reasonable.
