Can't help with that one, but there is a track on Jumeirah open Beach (near the Mosque). Also miles and miles of bicycle track at Mushrif Park.

over 99% effective. I am very anti-hormone-anything (not least because they make me vomit every few hours) but i just don't see the point of filling yourself up with them unnecessarily, they interfere so much with your body. Also if you react badly to the injection the stuff would stay in your body for months! http://www.fpa.org.uk/helpandadvice/contraception/iud

I don't know if this is an old wives' tale but someone once said to me that if your LO is particularly cranky or has problems eating or sleeping then it is worth deworming them. Re sand - http://www.pregnancyihub.com/de-worming-your-child/

I could be wrong but I think schools are not allowed to be open if the Ministry of Education is closed (which I think it is as part of Federal ministries). http://www.khaleejtimes.com/kt-article-display-1.asp?xfile=data/nationgeneral/2012/November/nationgeneral_November360.xml&section=nationgeneral So i think we can take it that all schools will be closed on 3rd (could be wrong!) - but now only question is will private be off on 3rd too? I don't think so. Am planning ahead thinking schools will be off and we will not.

Di, is Flagyl not an antibiotic? I think the OP is looking for a regular deworming tablet/syrup that you would give to children on a regular basis (important here as they spenda lot of time in sand) - OP, yes there is deworming syrup available here for little ones, available at all pharmacies.

Collecting cash for charity (even with the best intentions) has never been legal unless you are doing it under the umbrella of one of the (six?) registered charities here in the UAE. i spoke to the Bonnington/Almas Tower today (who are under DMCC) and they explained that the ballroom will be open tomorrow for donations of items to be collected. I'll speak to them again tomorrow when dropping things off and update then if there are any changes. also spoke to DMCC directly who were preparing a press release at the time, sure that will come out in due course.

They could probably also do with some volunteers then, to help distribute/organise what is being donated. From Dubai City Chick's post below, her friend states that anything/everything is required after being left with only 2 suitcases of belongings.

I will be going to the collection point in JLT every morning this week and am happy to also take any bags of donations with me from anyone in the Safa area, within reason as it's not a huge car lol. ;)

What is shocking about having TV? Unless they are sitting watching Cartoon Network, I really don't see the problem. Some of the most informative lessons we had at school involved educational TV. I'm sure every single British person from the same era remembers TEN SIXTY SIX! TEN SIXTY SIX! lol.

One must not post anything fun. One must stick to discussing maids, price of toilet rolls and which brunch is best.

It is hot, but today is the first day it has been so humid. It's not too bad when it's a dry heat with a wind. Now that the rains have started in India, it will be more humid and unbearable. Not too bad yet. Ask again in August. :D (PS I did make a pact when pleading for rain that I would not whinge about heat all summer)

Two things you should all check in your tenancy contracts: 1. Who pays the standard quarterly Empower charge (flat fee) 2. Ensure LL is paying the service fees

you are not allowed gas AT ALL in these towers, in any shape or form, for obvious reasons. I believe the fire which wiped out an entire block recently in ghusais was caused by someone having a gas barbecue on their balcony. You will not be allowed to bring gas bottles in to the building. Balcony furniture does fit on the balconies, some are larger than others, even the small balconies can fit a few chairs/a small table on them. White goods are not provided as standard, but your LL may provide this or if you are the 2nd tenant maybe some would be left. The towers have various different layouts and various different views as they are all angled slightly differently, there is no particular view or tower which is preferrable, it will depend on what you want to see (Burj K, the sea, city view etc) and at which angle you want to face (sunset, sunrise etc). You'll really need to see a good few before you choose ;)

Gas is not allowed in Exec Towers, this includes gas barbecues. The roads around the towers are work in progress and will be for a while, not something that is going to be fixed overnight!

It seems really silly to fly to Spain or London and then fly back/down to the Canary Islands from here. (i.e a 7/8 hr flight followed by a 2 hr layover followed by a 4 or 5 hr flight) They are only 40 miles from the Moroccan coast. So ok, you fly to Marrakesh/Casablanca, but how to get to them from there? Apparently there used to be ferries from Morrocco, but no longer? The airline Bintercanarias? Is there anything more obvious?!
