we have the dwinguler mat. it's available in toys r us. comes in 3 sizes i believe. provides better cushion than the interlocking mats and you can roll it up when not in use . note though that it's a bit heavy to roll up.

i am led to believe by my company that this is UAE labour law. eg: married men employed by my company get private medical for their wives, and flights home for heir family. Kelly1814.. i wish that was true, but unfortunately, it's not. my husband also works for a big company but they offer private medical and ticket only for him and not for his family. And even in EW you see a lot of posts that their husband's companies does not provide maternity coverage. actually i'm more frustrated with my company. I understand that the man has to provide for his family. but here.. they don't really care that some get double benefits as some wives work and also get medical and flight tickets from their company. so it's really not a question of money for them. And I even told them that though it's unfair, I'm okay with just getting medical and tickets for my DD since she is not covered by my husband's. but my request still got rejected by "HQ". So anyway, as i said earlier, I'll just have to suck it in for the time being and start looking for a better job. :(

i have an open case with etisalat. they overcharged us and we've raised several complaints with their customer service and they said they will adjust the bill but they never did. I've not paid it (over 1k aed) for more than one year and i've traveled 3 times within the year and did not have any issue with immigration.

This depends so much on so many factors that no two women will ever be alike. Genetics, pre-pregnancy weight/build, whether you nurse or formula feed the baby, current diet, etc. etc. etc. agree with Meagle. Some of my friends looked the same pre-pregnancy and just a few days after giving birth. jealous much! i gained 25 kgs during pregnancy, lost 10kgs after baby was born. i started doing bootcamp 3x a wk when dd was 5 months old and lost 10 kgs in 4 months. not done any proper exercise for the past 3 months with a very mobile baby and work taking too much time. just some home zumba once in a while. DD is now turning 1 yr this month and still 5 more kgs to go but i don't know when i'll find time. edited by EC2278 on 11/02/2013

hi twin_moms. just attended a kids bday party at KFC al nahda last friday (al itihad / dubai -sharjah road). This is place where there are 5 Americana owned restaurants are located (KFC, Crispy Creme, Pizza hut, Chiken Tikka, Hardee's). the party halls were very clean and organized - they had a stage and a dance floor for all party halls. size depends on the number of guests you have (they have halls for min. 60 and 25 people). We also had a look at their packages since we were also planning a party for our DD end of this month. their cheapest food order is for 30 aed per person (complete meal) and you can order from all the other americana restaurants. they arrange for everything.. balloons, video coverage, magic show, face painting, games and gifts for winners, kids gift package. it's all included in the package except for the 100aed rental for the party hall.

Yes, Masai Mara was indeed wonderful. We stayed at Keekorok lodge which was also excellent. If you don't fancy the 6 hour road trip from Nairobi to Masai Mara (with the last hour being a very bumpy and dusty ride), you can always take a flight from nairobi wilson airport to Masai Mara. Though the view at one of the pit stops which allows you get a breathtaking view of the Great Rift Valley was well worth the bumpy ride.

I have about 20 different handbags which I use depending on what I'm wearing! So I would need an awful lot of purses. In fact today's job is to sort them all out and de-clutter them all since I'm missing lip glosses / business cards / sunglasses that are somewhere deep within the depths of my wardrobe. And my purse is always stuffed to the brim with receipts / all my cards / so it would take ages to swap all this stuff into a different purse every day! no - my purse is a Gucci one which was gifted to me, which I then put into whichever handbag I'm using. my immediate thought was, wow! 20 handbags! then i did a mental count and realized i have 14 but only use 3 regularly. well, one more thing to add to my list on how to save.. no more handbags!

I'm turning 36 this year and have an 11 old DD. I would never have thought i'd get married or have kids for that matter - I enjoyed my carefree life too much and have never really had any interest in babies. in fact my baby is the first one I've held in my entire life. What changed by mind was my DH who absolutely loves kids and is great with them. We got married when i was 32, and at 34, we decided to try to conceive since I was not getting any younger and my worst fear was to deny him the chance to become a great father that I know that he will be. fast track to present.. after 11 months of sleepless nights... juggling work and family life.. it has been quite a challenge, and I still miss my old carefree life. But watching my baby sleep, seeing her break into a huge smile when I get home, hearing her laugh and watching her take her first steps... it's an amazing feeling. Now, I worry about the future on whether I'll be a good mom, and I'm terrified when my baby will reach teen-age years dealing with hormones and boys (!!)... but i've decided to just enjoy every moment with my family. And yes, like the other posters, there's never a moment that i regretted the decision.

you can also try shopbop.com for clothes / shoes / bags and accessories. it was recommended here in EW when i needed help in buying a bag for a friend. I've tried it 4x and even had a purchase delivered to Australia. great customer service ... items delivered to UAE in 2-3 working days. prices are also very competitive vs neiman marcus, net-a-porter and saks. and you get free shipping for purchases over 100USD (less than 100USD, shipment fee is only 10USD). goodluck

Hi MrsCB my dd had colic from 1st wk till she was around 9 weeks and it was heartbreaking hearing her cry. infacol never worked for us. what worked was rocking her to sleep. Max 15 mins in the rocking chair and she settles down and sleeps. On a good day, even 5 mins and she's fine. Sleeping on her dad's tummy works also.

i know it's very tempting but with a studio and no balcony - it's a no-no in my opinion. small spaces is fine with cats - keep her occupied with toys, spend some play time, and give it a scratching post and cat would be fine. however, cat poo and pee has a very strong odor and it lingers even if you change the litter sand immediately after them doing the deed! you need at least a balcony to keep your sanity. :)

thank you ladies for all your suggestions! the online stores suggested (net a porter, saks, outnet, shopbop) were really good and will probably be using it in the future but was worried to use it this time as item may not reach in time for Christmas. spent the entire weekend scouring outlet mall, dubai mall and MOE for the gift. finally got a gorgeous Michael Kors handbag for my friend - hope she likes it. Merry Christmas to everyone.

the bigger the better. :) we bought the biggest one from dwinguler which is around 7.5ft by 4.5ft when dd was around 6 months, we used to put the mat in the living room with her toys - that usually keeps her occupied most of the time instead of asking to be carried. at 8 months when she started standing up, we converted one room as playroom. we put interlocking playmats for the entire room then put the dwinguler mat at the center. the interlocking playmats available at baby shop and toys r us are also good but not as padded as the dwinguler but the advantage is that you can experiment by starting with a few mats and buy add'l ones if your baby needs more play area ( and its less expensive than the dwinguler). hope this helps.

I was just so excited to finally see my dd that i forgot to be scared of the operation. Nothing beats hearing your baby cry for the first time and having her in your arms. :)

last year my SIL informed my husband that she and her husband decided to buy a new car and my husband should send them x amount monthly (it was half of the monthly car payment) to help them out. Note that she was not asking for a loan.. she wanted it as a gift to her family. needless to say.. she didn't get that gift. :) edited by EC2278 on 12/12/2012

this thread just made my day :) I'm a Filipino and before coming to Dubai, i thought it was normal to brush our teeth at least 3 times a day, after every meal. it's being drilled to us at a young age as proper dental hygiene so it's become our habit. 3x is just the minimum. after a spicy / salty snack, we feel the urge to brush our teeth again. we feel uncomfortable if we don't brush after a meal (same like not taking a bath!) ..maybe we're addicted to the taste of fluoride. :)

Hi Busybee87. No need to worry. I went thru the same thing you did. When i was 6 wks pregnant, i had some spotting and went to the ob. ultrasound showed a blood clot (subchorionic hematoma) in my uterus and they gave me primolut injection and was ordered 3 days complete bed rest. And like you, i'm a google freak and spent all of those 3 days worrying about the blood clot and the primolut being D-grade. :( I went to see another ob and was told this was safe. I got another injection i think two weeks after then that was it and did not have any complications with pregnancy. DD is now 10 months.

Mazda CX9. one of my closest friends got one and he loves it. he upgraded from a Ford explorer and he said the cx9 is so much better. I've ridden on it a number of times and it's very comfortable at the 2nd row. It has air vents on the 2nd row with independent control. however it does not have air vents at the 3rd row which can be a problem during summer time.

you can try the shops in dragon mart. i've seen some scooters there but i don't have any idea on the prices (or quality) though but i'm sure it's definitely a lot cheaper than the ones in virgin. Also saw some in dubai outlet mall .. i forgot the name of the sports shop but it's in the 2nd floor near Tchibo. We got our bike there, 35% cheaper compared to the same brand in Sun and sands.

sorry to hear about your bad experience Gorobattie. But i feel that you've put too much importance on what should have been a straightforward matter. Report her for absconding and wait till she gets caught and send her back home. Other than that, do not contact her or exchange any messages with her so as not to make it worse for you. Maybe because you are a very emotional person, it's hard to move on and let go.. but wallowing won't do you or your family any good. and i agree with Anondubai.. that there are a lot of good maids out there. my maid is great. takes wonderful care of my 9 month old and keeps the house spotless (she can't cook though but she has been straightforward from the beginning saying she will not be doing any cooking which is just fine with us). And like others, a platonic relationship works with me and my maid.

Hi eunice_dxb. it depends on how many rooms you need and which area in shj you are most confortable with. Al Nahda Shj which is the nearest to Dubai and with the minimum traffic congestion in the entire SHJ area, a good 2 bedroom flat will cost anywhere from 28-35K. A 22K budget in Al Nahda will be a studio or maybe you can find a one bedroom flat at near Al nahda park which I don't recommend since the traffic in that area is bad. If you go inner sharjah like Al Wahda, Abu shagara, you can find 2 bedroom flats at only 22K however you have to suffer through really heavy traffic daily if you work in dubai. Hope this helps.
