I'm not saying there's anything wrong with having a maid or using valet - blimey most of us do, me included. The point I'm making is that with certain people, this goes to their heads and I've seen it myself how some people change and start to behave differently. The trappings of living and working in Dubai give us luxuries we may not have at home, it's just a case of appreciating it and don't let it change you.

i've just picked up this thread and can totally empathise with some of the comments. Dubai seems to have a strange affect on many 'normal' folk, a maid here and a valet there and suddenly they're hollywood! It's laughable really. There are many genuine people out there and when you find one it kind of restores your faith for a while. But I think the word fickle comes to mind with a number of friendships here. Maybe an entire new group needs to kick off?! x

then maybe it's time to arrange a night out with a couple of drinks for anyone interested?? If you're up for it then happy for you to email me on [email protected] and we can go from there. What's the worst that can happen??

By effort, I mean taking time out to call, email to arrange going out - it's a two-way street but that's how friendship works. I've never been in this kind of situation before where I only go out with a couple of different individual friends now and then. The survival instinct is kicking in here but I still miss the reliability and the number of friendships close by that you enjoy at home.

it seems so very sad that to survive here we don't make the efforts we might do at home, to avoid the downside when friends leave. maybe I should get a cat!

so pleased I'm not the only one! Only been here 18 months, and lost one really good friend to the UK in November and now another is leaving next month! I know I'll keep in touch but when they are there and you're still here it gets you down a bit. And let's face it, it's not always easy to make new friends on a continual basis. (sigh!)

I bought a pro-blu one with voucher from Groupon. shower attachment with two nice smelling replacement filters .... but I don't think it fits the shower, so bit of a waste of money! There's no real instructions and as I'm a female living on my own, I'm far from being an expert! Need help from somewhere ..

there is someone, a lady, who lived offshore for over 10 years and now buys and refurbishes properties for expats who want to buy in the UK. I dealt with her and it was great to have her act on my behalf - I still have the house, she comes here regularly to see clients so the good thing is you would see her face to face. She sometimes charges a fee for the search and the refurbishment, but from memory, it's not big in comparison to the cost of the house. I still have her number and you can get it by emailing me [email protected] Would that help?
