Hi ladies, question for ladies who are into gardening. I am wanting to put some thick green hedges/trees or bushes all around the parameter of my garden. What are the best type of bushes to go for out here that thrive in this weather/environment that don't require too much watering? Does anyone know a company that does it and what type of cost per tree etc...? It's for privacy so has to be the really thick type. Thanks! Bump!I would like to know that too..

Hi there.. We have bought NETGEAR home plugs from Sharaf DG and are using it for the house with success. The electric system must be of one phase only to be able to have the plugs connected to eachother. I hope this makes sense ,don't know how to explain it better :)

We had to wait about 5 days. It took the tanker just over an hour to fill, sorry can't tell you how much it cost as landlord filled it. You need to get a contract with a pool company who will come 3 x weekly to clean and put chemicals in. My husband called IML this evening to let them know that the work they did hasn't fixed our problem, they said they would come tomorrow Inshallah!!! This is second time the pool has been filled. We have been living here since december and have not as yet been able to use the pool!! This is my biggest fear as well. I rented the house because of the pool and would not like not being able to use it for ages. I will definitively discuss this with the landlord before we sign the contract.

We are living in the villa as well and yesterday had our pool filled for the second time after initial fill it was found to be leaking - a common problem here! They have regrouted but I'm not feeling very confident as they still have not waterproofed it, but I will keep an eye on the level! Good luck. hmmm..how much does it cost to fill up the pool , I am thinking at least a 1000 dirhams? I would not like having to empty it and refill it as they please! Can I not ask them to waterproof it as well before filling ? edited by Eli1979 on 15/02/2011

Okay - so now they're regrouting the whole pool ... anyone know how long you have to wait between when it has been regrouted and when you can fill the pool? Had a quick look online and it says 48 hours?? oh assisi! All those pools have problems, it seems. Do you have to pay IML for regrouting it or it is under waranty?

yes Eli1979 that was us, my brain is boggled! How are you getting on, seems all the ones we see on line are actually more expensive when you come to want to rent! I just want to get it sorted and move. We gave the deposit for an A2 in RJ sector yesterday. I found it to be very expensive @140 but we liked it because of the location and it is bigger than the A1s. I think there are not too many villas available right now and therefore the prices increase a bit. All the agents I spoke to, seem to think there will be a big drop when more villas will be handed over. It only makes sense as so far I did not see a single project to have an increase after the recesion kicked in :\:

hi assisi, the Mazaya agent (who is in the show house) told us that IML do the first fill, so it may be worth getting in touch with him - I can't remember his name. A friend here on Ranches has used seveal pool people over the years, I could get the names and you could ring them for advice? Let me know, drop me an email :-) We were up yesterday looking at another 4 houses two in RD and two in RH (I think, got dizzy by the end!) plan to move around the 20 March. We loved one A1 great location but greedy landlord! The other two we liked were A2s but have pool at the side and a low fence which I'm not so keen on, but the extra sq footage is nice. lol cymraes I was at the villa yesterday and I think you were the next client ater I left. Were you with Helena? I have seen every single villa in there for the past one week , I think:)

Eli1979, I called Maxcom over for a quote, but was not entirely happy with the service. What he mentioned to be a 2-3 hrs overall fitting and installation, he turned up and took 3 hours just to download the software, but even then after being in the home for what seemed like ages ( at the worst part of the day- tea time/homework time), and said that there were problems with my router. He said that I needed to get a new router as mine was too old....(installed 1 and a half years ago), however, he did have one in his car that he could sell me for 500dhs. (Figure plucked out the air). After me telling him that he would not get another penny out of me...he made a few calls to his manager, who then said he could sell it to me for 300dhs...I said NO. Then after a deliberate pause, (so transparent), he said that he has another customer old model in the car that I could have for 200dhs. This gets better! I said NO. Then he realised that I was not going to be a mug and buy it off him, and for the sake of losing the 7000dhs sale he was risking, he went out to his car...and came back...''good news...you can have this one for free!!!!'' he said. Well well that was a surprise, so we have gone from 500dhs for a new router, to 300, to 200 (for a new one) to FREE!!! Anyway after changing the old router, he then proceeded to take 3 hours doing stuff on the computer, and still the camera's were in their boxes, and he hadn't even downloaded the software! Did I really need the new router? Me thinks NOT! Just an extra sale for him. You would think that it was a simple tasks for a computer technician and he kept on phoning someone and talking for ages in Arabic whilst he was on his laptop. He hadn't even attempted to show me what he was doing or what the issues were. Just to make you aware, if you ladies have the same experience, as I am sure they all know how important it is to those who want them and that (especially I am not savvy about computers and stuff), he thought he may try it with me. I still want the Nanycam installed but need to know if there is some other company that can do this. Anyone? He is still calling me to see when he can come over to fix them....er NO! A sale lost indeed!! edited by dipika on 08/02/2011 OMG i have just seen this! I cannot believe you had such a bad experience! It's like you are talking about a totally different company. Our installation (4 cameras) took less than 40 minutes and they are perfect! I love them and could not do without them now as I travel for work and I even use it to see my baby when I am away, etc. He did tell us before we bought the cameras that we might have to change the router as Belkin does not have certain functions that might be required but at the end it was not necessary. I don't know what happened , maybe they sent you a new guy? what was the name of the technician?

I was in a similar situation some time ago, but in the arrivals area. I was picking up my mother at 4 in the morning. I was driving and DH was on my RHS. I literally stopped for one second. Actually I had the intention of stopping and I just slowed down but the car did not even stop completely but the police waved at us to stop. I was not blocking anyone, It was 4 am and there were no cars in sight. You are just not allowed to stop there at all, even though but everyone use to do it to drop people off. The police officer approached us in a very rude and angry way, it disturbed me so much. He left me go eventually after checking my license and registration but it left me in tears I tell you. I kind of felt the way your husband did as I was pregnant and very sensitive at the time :)

After hearing all the news about Nannycam and protecting what's yours in your own home, I searched quite a few sites and cannot seems to find a/any decent supplier(s). I have heard they are around 2000dhs but need to know how many camera's you get and how the images are sent to you etc. I am looking into fitting a few camera's in my house (not hidden as they are illegal here). Mainly as a deterrant as we always have workmen drifting in and out of the villa fixing stuff (if that's what you can call it). Although my valuables are well and truely locked away, it is still a sensible idea for my family. Has anyone had any fitted by a reputable company that are of good quality and how much did it all cost for installation/servicing? I really need to get this sorted this week along with a burglar alarm, smoke detectors, fire extinguishers etc. I am going through a bit of a safety crisis (not mid life crisis). Hi Dipika. I have just installed nanny cams from a company called Maxcom ( http://maxcomtec.com/ ). They are based in Bur Dubai and they sell Y-cam brand cameras. The quality and service is really good and they work like a charm. They will come and install and configure it for you. The price is 1200 for one camera with night vision and 1000 for the ones without night vision. Have a look at http://www.y-cam.com/. HTH

Surely the best surveillance of all is to look after your own kids and do your own housework ! And what will the kids do while you are at work? Some women do have jobs you know... and it's not always a choice or for a career. I am one of those mums and have just installed 4 cameras in my home from the company quoted in 7 days. A nanny can have the best recommendations and curriculum but things still do happen. Unfortunately you can never be careful enough these days.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vKiCVBAFKcQ

Hey veekay. The guys came yesterday and did the installation. I must say the image quality is amazing. They are ip wireless cameras very small and stylish. The name is y-cam. Try google it and if you find the main uk site they actually have various test cams which you can log in to and observe the quality, etc. As for the price, we got a discount and free instalation as we bought 4 cams. We paid 1000 for the normal ones and 1250 for the night vision ones. Not cheap but they are very good with picture like image and clear audio. Very user friendly also. Can be accesed from pc,ipad, iphone, etc edited by Eli1979 on 15/01/2011

If you are not keen on grass the cheapest cover is gravel - i think it costs something like DH 1000 for a truck full and that will cover a big area. The problem with gravel is that it's not great to walk on and also difficult to keep clean as leaves have to be picked up individually whereas with paving you can just give it a sweep. It's ok if the leaves are big say from a frangipani tree but a real pain if they are bougainvillea leaves and blossoms! - but if you get a gardener and they keep on top of things it's ok. If you are going for paying the cheapest is interlock - the small interconnected reddish bricks you see all over the place. You could use interlock outside the doors to make or extend the patio area and to make a path then have some areas of gravel. If you wanted to spend a bit more you can make a path with sandstone pavers set a step apart with gravel in between. Where can I buy sandstone pavers? any ideea of the cost?

I see no reason why you can't ask the LL to ensure the pool is working OK before signing. But I suspect they will just say it is. Might be a better idea to get clause in contract to state that if the pool is not working or leaking and not rectified within a certain time frame then X amount will be refundable to you from the rent monies paid. I am sure IML will eventually resolve the issue it just depends on the time frame, and if you have a clause then the onus is on the LL to push them rather than you. Just to add to that, a clause that will make them responsible for excessive DEWA due to pool leakage as well... *like* I hope i will still convince a landlord to rent a villa to me with those clauses though..they can be very stubborn sometimes.. for this reason this time I will be starting house hunting 2 months in advance :D

Hi veekay.. he said the free Dyndns will only work properly if i want to access the DVR once or twice a day max..not sure if this is true ... I have configured the free Dyndns myself into the router but maybe I did something wrong as I did not manage to get acess from the web still..that's when I decided to call the so called expert... Anyway, as you might imagine the quality of the cams was bad and the image was shakey (wireless cameras). The guy from the store said the coverage was 40 meeters but I could not get decent quality from 20 meeters even...

If I may ask what was the name of the shop in DM do you have the card or the bill please ? @Birchy..the shop number is BAK 08 & 09.Unfortunatelly we had to return the whole thing as i did not manage to have the network access fixed. The shop keeper recommended us a technician that would have solved the problem but when we called he told us our modem ( Belkin) was not compatible and that we would have had to replace it. There was another expense of 300 AED a year for renting a Dyndns and he was charging us aed 500 for the installation. Our router is brand new and expensive so I didn't want to change it. We really had to fight to get our money back so make sure you clarify everything before you buy it. We then went to Maxcom and bought the good quality Uk made cams. Sometimes the cheaper option does not necessarily mean you will spend less .

IML are the ones doing the repair of the pools. Some people have had them out numerous times to sort out the leaks. I believe some are ok whilst others are still struggling with leaks after 3 or 4 visits. But I guess at least they are trying... So it's not a good idea to ask the landlord to have this fixed before we sign? My fear is I will not be able to use the pool for ages since we all know how fast things are moving in Dubai... @cymraes..agree with you..love the villas at the villa :) they are amazing and the mazaya's are very affordable even though I prefer the DP ones design wise. for the eitsalat cam it works only with etisalat fone and you have to call the sim on the cam in order to view. it has audio and video. i dont know about dragonmart cams. i presently hae etisalat.one cam only. i wish to add some more to check on the other areas were kids and nanny go. i m planning to try dragonmart for a cheaper option. im waiting until we transfer house by next month before putting in new cams. etisalat drains lots of credit and theres no recording capability. im ****** coz my DH is the one who is able to access only and he only does it very infrequently. i howver cant do anything as etisalat 3G wouldnt work in my office. idont know why 3G signal seems to be blocked from here. i would want to have the cam accessible via net.let me know what you are able to find.thanks edited by mitzi2010 on 11/01/2011 mitzy..i will let you know what i found in DM otherwise Maxcom sells good quality ones with audio and infrared night vision for 1200 AED ...veeeeeeeeryyy expensive..the package in Sharaf includes the system that will work over the web and has recording capabilities too..and that's 3500 for 4 cams edited by Eli1979 on 11/01/2011

We have decided that we'd like to move up to The Villa, I have just posted on their forum to see if anyone knows of a Mazaya A1s going in the 100-125,000 price range - if you know of any please let me know. Our move date is the first 10 days of April and we would be able to pay in one cheque. However the pool would have to be ready to go and have some sort of garden (paving is our preference) as we have visitors at Easter! I have contacted Thomas at the Property Store and he is getting back to me, but if anyone knows of a direct to landlord set up that would appeal to us too. Thanks in advance @Cymraes- We are also moving at The Villa in march or latest April and looking for a Mazaya A type, just like you :) I know most of the pools had to be re grouted because of leakage so ideally we should address this before we sign the tenancy contract. Does anybody know how well is this taken care of by Mazaya and who exactly does the work? We decided for a Mazaya and not a DP villa only because of the pool so really don't wanna end up having it empty and unusable or spending a fortune on dewa for keeping it full!! Did anyone go through this recently and how reasonable it is to have the owner fix the pool before we move in?
