Hi, I have tried AB stitching a couple of times and even though their cuts are good, their timing is horrible! I have given them stuff which they kept for almost 2 months! The other stuff that they had they have lost it. So even though price might be 20 to 30dhs better than they others, the hassle is not really worth it! Dxbfamilia, I'm so surprised that you had such a horrible experience. My friends and I swear by "A.B's Stitch". Do a search for them on facebook. The owner is very active and if we have a problem [or query'> we send her a PM, she replies back asap.

One more question say for eg. we are ordering 5 dishes, the cheapest 2 will be free right? If you order 5 dishes, the cheapest 2 will be free. And say i go with my fiance n order sumthing he gets the same thing free or can he order sumthing else of the same value or lesser value? If you order something, your fiance DOES not have to get the same thing as you. He can order something of higher value [your dish will be considered free'> or he can order something of lower value [his dish will be considered free'> or he can order something of same value [and you will only have to pay for one of the two dishes'>. Also, I just wanted to mention that as is written on the coupon, the offer applies on "main course items" only.

Sorry for my ignorance but what exactly are desi clothes? Des = Our country Desi = Things typical to our country The term "desi" refers to things typical in the Indian Subcontinent: India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Srilanka, Nepal and Bhutan. Examples of the main desi clothes are: Sari http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sari Shalwar Kameez http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shalwar_kameez Churidaar http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Churidar Gharara http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gharara These are like the main groups of clothing types that people in the above mentioned countries wear but they have many tweaks and variations within these groups depending on religion they follow and region they originate from, et cetera.

The current trend in Pakistan is not shalwars but loose pants called "azaars" or the "churidaars" that you mentioned. Cotton can fit very well but only if its of lawn quality and that gives a very casual effect. If you're looking for something semi-formal, it's best to go for chiffon. If you're going the stitching route: best to get the fabric from Deepak or Regal [both in Satwa'> or for the real Pakistani stuff, check out Bareeze [in Meena Bazar'>. And then there are quite a few new Pakistani shops in Meena Bazar that tailor Pakistani Clothes. I use "A.B's stitch" which I recommended on EW couple of days ago. If you're going the ready-made route; check out Khaadi [mainly cottons, on Jumeirah Road or Festival City'>, Bareeze [Meena Bazar, Diyafah Road and Sharjah'>, Junaid Jamshed [Meena Bazar'> or FnkAsia [Diyafah Road'>. HTH :)

To make a creamy spinach pasta. Make alfredo sauce (has parmesan cheese) separately. Then add steamed spinach, alfredo sauce, ricotta cheese and condiments to the pasta - simple and yummy :)

Next time people ask me why I don't sew for other people here in Dubai I am going to refer them to this thread. From Aed 40 for a shirt? You must be joking! I won't even do it for triple the price... :\: Lettie, Don't know where you hail from but "desi" clothes are stitched by "desi" tailors which originate from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, et cetera. And AED 40 for a shirt is about 800 Pakistani Rupees. And the tailors are more than happy for this kind of money.

Della Roso, You can also take your mum and aunt to the souk in Sharjah. Its airconditioned, has plenty of parking and some very nice bargains in terms of silver jewelery, knick knacks for the house and perfumes.

Celebrating birthdays is frowned upon by the very religous. They believe that Prophet's birthday is the only birthday to be celebrated. Recently, I heard a scholar speak on the topic of birthdays and the Prophet's birthday in particular and he repeated a very interesting tradition: the Prophet did not used to celebrate his birthday with a feast but with a fast to show Allah his gratitude.

I found them nice enough that I used them to get clothes stitched to wear to my best friend's wedding! :) But, since you said you need to get clothes stitched for an exhibition - I should let you know that they're not the AED 30 per suit type of tailors; shirt's stitching starts from AED 40 and a suit (with azaar or churidaar) would start from AED 60

I call this the "tucked and draped" abaya and the shopkeepers seem to understand me :) I think the one you linked may be from DAS http://www.dascollection.com/ Their prices are on a bit high side (for me), I think they start from around AED 2500 but they do have some very unique designs.

UAE2010, I think that there are a few reliable charities in UAE already involved in relief efforts in Libya. If you contact them, they get a special rate from pharmacies and food suppliers. You can make a cash donation to them. Some of these charities even allow you to select what items you want to purchase with your donation.

I'm a south-east asian Muslim and the people in my close social circle would be horrified if I suggested spending AED 450 for a Barbie. We (my family and friends) have a price range that is acceptable and affordable to the people we interact with upto AED 150 for birthdays of everyone under 13 years upto AED 200 for birthdays of everyone else upto AED 500 for a wedding gift For birthdays and weddings; we give either cash/gift/donation to charity - this is generally either mentioned in card or discussed before the event upto AED 200 for a housewarming gift upto AED 80 for subsequent home visits (for e.g. at Eid, Diwali, etc) Eid visits generally constitute giving of flowers, chocolates or cake as opposed to a housewarming gift which is more likely to be a decoration piece for the house

em2san.....there are a wonderful group of residents that live in the Greens that care for the Greens cats. They get them all spayed, health checked etc, some are even microchipped, and the residents take it in turns with the feeding schedule. They have tried to put collars on, but they alwaysmanage to get them of. They are a very lucky group of cats. :) Hotspot - I always thought the Greens cat looked healthy and happy. I live in Greens too and would love to join the feeding schedule if theres an organized one or help in any other way I can.

I wish I could go for the kids buffet: I always prefer the finger fish, mini burgers, nuggets, chips and cupcakes to the boring "adult" food. I'l pay my 100 and keep an eye on your kids if any of you ladies are willing to sneak me in as your maid ;)

I think the best shawarma's in New Dubai are found in Mall of the Emirates: Beirut [Ski Dubai food court'> for the shawarma roll (specify small size, somehow they're tastier than the big rolls) and Karam [Carrefour food court'> for the shawarma platter.

My friend's sister was in the same dilemma but found a cute solution. She made and printed cards off the computer that were like cinema passes and said "this pass is valid for one individual only." No unwanted guests and she didn't come off as rude either.

There are so many wonderful things you can do here that you cant at home. Home is different to many but right now many of us hv chosen Dubai to be our home. but why then is there so much negativity... Chillout - I seem to have this argument with so many people. I hate it when people are always criticizing how things are done in Dubai. Everybody must have done a cost-benefit analysis between Dubai and their home country or other countries they had offers from and they CHOSE Dubai cause it offered them more. And of course, its not a place without faults but I think the good things definitely outweigh the bad things.

I live in Greens and I see many stray cats with collars and no owner details. A security guard told me that some residents leave bowls of cat food for these cats and put a collar on them so that the municipality people don't take them away. It is possible that your lil boy also falls in this category. From your description, the cat sounds like its in a lot of pain and I don't think that the cat's "fatness" is any indication of it being a pet [stray animals get fat on scraps from garbage'> plus no owner could bear to see an injured pet. I'd suggest you stick to your plan and take him to the vet. It is most important that he be treated for his leg wounds. After his treatment, maybe you could take a picture of him and print a few posters and distribute them around your neighborhood to locate his owners (if he has any). If nobody comes forward, then drop by the vet again for neutering. I think ABVC (near Mall of the Emirates) is offering free neutering for stray cats. And after the neutering, just release him in the wild OR if you can, adopt him and make him a happy kitty.

No problem, TashaB Just wanted to add that from my understanding, workshops don't really care if you have the pink or green slip - they just want to see that you have A slip because it confirms that the accident has been logged in the police system and was not a hit-and-run

I'm hoping that I can just pay for the repair myself by showing the green slip. Does anybody know anything about this possibly? I have been in two minor accidents and gotten the pink slip once and the green slip once and both times chose to get the repair done myself instead of through the insurance because I couldn't be without a car for too long. The first time, I used a workshop in Sharjah. And the second time, I used a workshop in Rashidiya (they even had a pick-up and drop-off service). Unfortunately, don't have their number any longer but would recommend that you look around in that area - the mechanics are reasonably priced and no questions asked

I agree, Miss B - Once you figure the system, things do move pretty fast in Dubai Things happen much faster here, there is very much a 'get it done now' attitude here, i find it very frustrating when we have to deal with UK counterparts who do things so slooooooooowly...

Don't think this is true - some very rich and local (and hence VIP) friends of mine have been in similar situations where no other vehicle was involved and they got the pink slip too and the insurance company didn't make a fuss about it either - if you get someone to read the arabic text for you, you'l see that the police writes in detail about the accident so that the insurance has a clear idea about the circumstances And, I'm also pretty sure that if it had been the car of one of the vip local families that attend the school that was hit, then things would have worked out differently.
