When family have stayed we have always covered everything. Friends that have stayed have been mixed, some we have covered others have insisted on splitting. I think you are right, when you reverse if to £'s it does get expensive for people. It will also depend on how your guests are set up financially, I would never take them somewhere really pricey if I knew that they were going to be uncomfortable with us picking up the cheque. Having the entertainer books helps...

Glad to hear this is still the case, we had a call from our LL last night telling us to expect an Agent today as he is selling. So at least we know where we stand when any potential new owners come to view. Will make sure they understand we are not packing our bags in a hurry!

It is like anywhere, you need to make your own mind up. You can see from just this thread that just a small group have VERY different opinions based on their actual experiences. As much as we have wanted it to work for us it hasn't, the level of care that we had been used to just isn't here for us. Now this may well be the same at other schools here also, so alot will also depend on your expectations. We were told that they had applied for an increase, but I do know friends who never received the email... poor admin again. The justification for such an increase though is beyond me, and yes I saw the email where they listed ALL the wonderful new specific study rooms.... come on honestly...

Camel Cuddling experience no longer exists - I rang about this last week. Camel racing season has just started. Races seem to be scheduled every week but the times and days vary depending on how many camels are entered. But races are generally held from about 3 - 5pm. You can call this number to find out for any particular week: 055 676 006 THe camel racetrack is exit 37 off the Al Ain Road (Behind the Outlet Mall). Near the camel race track is the Equestrian Centre (exit 29 off the Al Ain Road). Here you can have a camel experience where for 180 Dirri you have a talk about camel husbandry, a 45 min ride into the desert and taste some camel milk. You need to pre-book this so they can get the camels ready. Contact number is Karen on 056 177 2856. This was the old Desert Ranch where they did Camel Cuddling, now called Al Sahra part of the Jebel Ali group. Camels are really well looked after here, and they have a cheeky baby one called George! Beautiful desert sunsets..

Moroccan Oil and straighteners, or if no time a hairband! Sweet Almond Oil is meant to have a natural sun barrier, I use it at night for my crows feet, but have a friend who uses it on skin before applying suntan lotion also..

Sorry to crash this thread, but for those with older visitors coming do you know who they get their travel insurance with? My mum is 72 this year, and quotes for insurance are coming in around £500 and over! She dies have Crohns Disease so obviously that has an impact, but just wondering if anyone can recommend a company they have used that are a little more inexpensive.. TIA

Thanks emlsnre, I don't know if its renewal or not - its the standard blue contract and does not say 'renewable' or 'non renewable'. It does have a standard clause that says 'renewal is at the discretion of the landlord' but my understanding is that even with this clause , the contract is automatically renewed if neither party takes any action prior to expiry. Yes that is correct, it has to actually say Non Renewable, if it doesn't then it renews.

If it is a renewable lease then regardless of whether there has been no communication it will automatically renew. If he wants you out then he has to give you 12 months official notice, the new buyers if they have any sense will have taken advice on the fact the property is tenanted an will know they are legally bound to give you 12 months notice. Make sure that the deposit money is passed onto the new owners.

Comedian.... Not a leg to stand on. Just keep advising that you will be renewing as per UAE Law unde rthe esame terms as the last year. Assuming you do not have a non renewable lease. Any changes as others have said require 90 day notice, and ll can only increase if rent calculator confirms anincrease is due. If he wants you out then he does have to complete a specific form or have notarised a 12 months notice as I understand it. Stand your ground and don't let them bully you, you have the law on your side.

The kids naked and changing together would not bother me. I would absolutely be bothered by the fact that the kids were in full view of visitors to the school! Absolutely, was just about to say the same thing. A that age they really don't care and neither should they in my opinion. But I would be really unhappy if I knew that people other than staff were able to see children in a school wandering about naked.

The classes run by Nick and Scott at Table 9 (in the Hilton Creek) are brilliant - and they do a bread class - check the Table 9 website for details....... I would second Table 9... Some friends did the bread course there, and were kind enough to deliver some fresh to our door... It is amazing, I can't eat the bread I can buy here, plays havoc with my stomach... But this stuff was superb... I am definitely getting myself in there to do it.

I know it is easier said than done, and being here with such a diverse cultural group, where some kids are expected to be reading fluently and know all their times tables by the age of 4.... BUT 5 is still really young, maybe she just isn't ready. I would just try a relax and not worry too much. Have you spoken to the teacher, if they feel she is struggling they should really be talking to you about what options you have in terms of support.

I don't have a particularly high opinion of any teachers my dd has had here in Dubai to date. But I do think that you need to give it a chance, not even one month in yet so they will still be settling in and getting to know one another. Even if the relationship wasn't working I think you would find it very difficult to convince the school to move your child, it would be seen to them as admitting their staff had failed. If you went that route I think you would see the defence barriers rise quite quickly. The important part is you state You don't like the teachers style, but how about your child?
