For the OP in case you didn't see the link http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-19112549, not sure if you can still watch the episode on Iplayer but worth a look if you have not seen it already.

They refer to it as the fasting program on the documentary we watched, so as I said it is not literal but referred. Hope that makes sense. There was also a 3 day detox prior to starting it, from recollection the guy just had black Tea, water and Miso soup. I am sure it known as other things, the 5:2 for instance, ADF, intermittant fasting...... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-19112549 edited by emlsnre on 23/09/2012

It is not fasting as in the literal sense, not sure if you watched it recently but there was a program relating to this on Horizon, carried out by doctors and following much research. The point is that it needs to be a lifestyle change not a quick fix. My dh on his 600 days, will have a bowl of cereal with half a banana, or berries. A piece of fruit, or a wrap with lean meat in it for lunch, and for dinner a piece of fish or chicken with vegetables. You need to weigh it out to get the portions correct to meet the calories, but all very simple non fussy food. He drinks alot of water.

My dh does it, on the fasting days he has a 600 calorie day. He has lost 5kg in 7 weeks. Eta... His BMI and body fat have also reduced significantly. edited by emlsnre on 23/09/2012

Just looked at the venue map and its all standing. No seats in sight...can that be possible? I was going to take my 7 and 9 year old but what's the point if no one can see anything and I have to carry my 7 year old around so she doesn't get stepped on! Are there no seats in this stadium? I don't think it is in the actual stadium, but looks more like one of the side pitches.

I thought they may use the stadium and therefor sell seated tickets also. Didn't want to take my dd into standing just in case it gets a bit crazy, and also thought it would be easier for to see the stage from an elevated seat. But looking at it, the layout looks like it is the area where Duran Duran played, if that is the case then it will be just standing.

Was hoping to take our dd if there were seated tickets, but they are all standing.. Not sure how great that will be for the younger crowd.

Argh! I didn't mean to criticise you personally. I wouldn't dream of telling anyone what they can/can't say - I hate that I came across like that. Cyberspace is a tricky place to communicate in. I completely agree that it's teacher dependent and we have been lucky. Plus, my son being Aspergers is also lucky in a way because a clear diagnosis means he gets special treatment, whereas other children, equally deserving, may not. No offence taken, just tired and frustrated by our experience... Glad it is working out for your guys. I could (and should) have communicated my point far more clearly to avoid offence. What I was trying to say is that yours is a commonly held opinion (which, I admit, says something in itself) but I don't feel it's fair to let it go unchallenged, because I have experienced exactly the opposite treatment from Repton. I don't claim my experience is any more valid that yours. Just that there are two sides to the story. As I say, sorry to cause offence. Utterly unintentional but I should have realised. Kids and schooling can be very emotive areas!

"R is not renowned for support, from my experience it is a one size fits all education." Have to step in here. I hear this kind of comment so often and it really isn't fair. I have two kids at the junior school and they are very different and both love the place. My son is special needs (Aspergers) and I couldn't be more impressed with the efforts the school has gone to to ensure that they meet his needs. The child psychologist also said that she found Repton one of the most inclusive schools in Dubai. It's a huge place so I'm sure different families have different experiences, but I can't praise it highly enough and wanted to add balance. Then I would say you have been very fortunate with your allocated teachers. We have unfortunately not had such a great experience. As others have said on this forum, much of the schools operate the same way, and it really comes down to the teacher/s you have that determine the success of that school year. So my comment may not seem fair to you, but for us it is, which is why I said from my experience.

We've never had a babysitter (and my children aren't clingy lol)...since our eldest was around 14 he's babysat for us but we've never left them with others, and only with grandparents a couple of times. From a non smug SAHM, our dd is one of the most confident, independant kids I know, definitely not clingy. It comes down to how you bring them up and what they learn from you, so if you are not going to be there to do that for the main of the day, then it is really important you find somebody who is singing from the same hymn sheet as you with regards to how your child should learn, experience life. Sorry I can't recommend anyone, I know there is an agency that provides qualified nurses for babysitting, somebody here may know the name of them. Good Luck.

I didn't have such a great experience with Vet Care, but very confident with Nad Al Sheba, I believe they do the out of hours work for Al Safa vets... Vets are brilliant, and during a routine dental picked up something I had not noticed nor another vet, that could have been fatal if left much longer.... BIG fan....:)

emlsnre, The gait assessment set up sounds really good. Question: Does the store then suggest what sports shoe is best for you personally or is the store only allowed to suggest their own brands? I've tried Nike, Adidas, Reebok and find that for me Asics are the most supportive and also the most comfortable. Yes, they are expensive but I always wait until the sales and then buy another pair. Will definitely go for the gait assessment though, thanks for the information. Good luck with the 10K. Has anyone tried the Vibran Five fingers? No bias, they recommended either a asics or saucony for me.

The big Intersport store attached to ACE at Festival City. They have the gait assessment set up. So you run and mid point the pressure hits a mat which is computer linked, it shows the different points of your foot and where it is hitting. edited by emlsnre on 09/09/2012

Slacking off Repton specially by people who DON'T have children there is very easy. However a class size of 30, has been enough to put me and many of my friends off. edited by Irooni on 07/09/2012 Irooni is right, people do like to have a pop.... So you will need to read between the lines and look for people with first hand experiences. Depends on what you are used to do in terms of education, and making sure your expectations are realistic.

Dso is much cleaner and finished compared to Repton. Can't omment on the academics as we are currently at Repton, but I only hear positive comments about DSO. You will hear alot of negativity for varying reasons at R. Class sizes are smaller at R (22) max compared upto 30 at DSO. From what I hear R will be far more pushy in regards of homework and the pace at which they teach. R is not renowned for support, from my experience it is a one size fits all education. I am sure some DSO folks will be able to comment further.

If the ll wants to make amendments they have to notify you 90 days before the end of the contract. So if they are within the 90 days then no, but as for if it is allowed fullstop, no idea sorry.

The Villa is great but don't be under any illusions that it is or will be anything like the Ranches... I think FAM properties had some Villas on open house so you could try them. Approx figures, DP Cordoba 4 beds are going from 160k, Granada 5 bed 200k, Valencia 5 bed 230k Mazaya 4/5 A1 from 145k, A2 155k, A3 170k. B types vary from 185k upwards but seeing more for the 200k mark.

I am sure that most cases are just over excited people who just love kids. But touching, taking pictures and walking off with your child is not acceptable in all cultures. If people are courteous enough to ask for a picture, we always politely say no thankyou. On occassion that people haven't asked, we have asked them to delete the pictures they have taken and made sure they have. Our dd did develop a bit of a thing for people touching her hair, and often became upset that she didn't understand why people were laughing at her (they were smiling not laughing) but you see how it can affect some kids.
