I am sure I saw the same ? a while ago, but can't for the life of me find it, so apologies for repeating. Basically I want to buy a ticket online for my MIL who will fly from London to DXB. Checked the emirates site and it isn't clear until you start to enter payment details. Anyone know? TIA

I work with US curriculum and in grade 2 they learn skip counting, which is counting by 2s,5s etc. Then in the same year they learn multiplication by pictures, and rows/lines, and memorizing the easy tables of 2, 5 and 10. In grade 3 they really start to memorize tables by repetition, repetition, repetition. Is grade 3 equivalent to a Year 4 british place?

Hi emlsnre! Looking through the workbooks from Yr2 I don't see any signs of formal learning of tables.....although there are random times table questions...I just don't believe in learning tables in a piecemeal non structured way....I mean counting in 5's is all well and good, but if you cannot recal 3x7 is 35 immediately and have to work it out by counting in 5's from the beginning it is not a good sign.... I've had a Google and had a quick look on Ipad apps...my head is spinning now...as there are almost too many resources and not sure which ones are simple and effective and engaging....so recommendations for a few good apps would be much appreciated.... xxx Squeebles is a good app for tables.... I am sure you meant 5 x 7.... Just keeping us sandpit dwellers on our toes..lol x edited by Sugarbeach on 09/08/2012

Hi SB, hope you are well. The school here had put quite alot of emphasis on learning the tables. But having seen the workbooks there is nothing to indicate they have been learning them at school. Dd said they used to stand up, be asked a table, only when they answered it correctly could they sit down. We used to get notes home advising what the expectations were on tables learning. So at the end of year 2 at the least they shoukd have known the 2,3,4,5,6,10,11 tables. So through the summer we are looking at 7, 8 and 9's. There are tricks for learning sets... You have my email so message me if you need more info. Xx

It is very confusing, after the first version I sent them the email from DEFRA. They then spoke to the vets at Mushrif who then confirmed that the rabies shot was required annually for the Municipality Tag but that it wasn't for export reasons. So who knows, we will always have them vaccinated in line with local requirement. I do know for sure that the blood test is definitely no longer required for UK entry. Glad Millie made it back and is happy, hopefully she hasn't been on anymore unplanned vacations after her last little jaunt! X

When we came from the UK the rabies vaccine is stamped as valid for 3 years, guess it depends on which brand you get. After our first year we went to get the dogs re vaccinated and felt sick when we were told that because the Rabies had been done over 1 year ago we had to start agan as they would not be granted access back to UK. I couldn't get my head around this as their passports were clearly valid. So I had the jabs done, and went away to get confirmation from DEFRA. DEFRA said that as far as they were concerned whatever was in the passport was adequate. The vet had confused themselves between the local requirement of annual Rabies and the UK policy. So I didn't need to get another blood test done, and only had the rabies done to comply with the UAE local policy. But this would not have had anyimpact on us flying the dogs home as their passport vaccines were still valid for re entry. And as I mention below as of 1 Jan you are no longer required to get the blood test done for UK entry, so it makes travel much easier so long as you do as others have said and keep all the vaccines upto date.

I thought that as of January a blood test was no longer required. Sure I read about it last year. You are correct, but this is for UK, maybe OP is from another country. Yes I know thats why I said in the next post "Relevant for UK"

Sadly the vets here won't always have the current info, so do the research yourself to make sure of the requirements. In orde to get the Municipality tag you have to have the rabies vaccine annually.

Mentioning where he is from is fine, but he did not need to say about the 16 innocent souls that were murdered there and how Murray had hid under the headmasters desk, while the killer rampaged through the school.... People did not need to be reminded it is not something that alot of people will forget.

I have used the white chocolate in waitrose with great success. I have also added colouring when making pops for Halloween, orange for pumpkins and green for witches. Definitely chill the balls before hand, and dip the stick into chocolate before putting into the ball to help it hold better, then chill again before coating the balls. Good luck!

thanks emlsnre, I heard of a sikh family being refused to take them in the cabin.....so I wondered if anyone knows what EK law is on this, as it seems EK don't know themselves. http://digitaljournal.com/article/267041. They changed policy after the complaint. I believe the container must be xrayed, so material of such needs to meet that spec.

Whilst in Dubai Mall yesterday, I saw a lady tucking into a bag of crisps. I very quietly told her she shouldn't be doing it and that she could find herself in trouble if somebody took offence. She said that she had seen some children eating so assumed it was OK, thanked me and put them away.

Hi, Most come unlandscaped and will come down to your negotiations skills. Personally we didnt want our LL to do ours, he would have increased the rent, whereas we just had the one off cost, and didn't get lumbered with an expensive to maintain green field. I know a few with grass here and not only does it cost a fortune it always looks awful, half dead. Good luck in your search....

Hi We are into our third year at The Villa, and still enjoying it. There are a number of maintenance companies, Dubai Properties own guys, can be very hit and miss and can take weeks before they work out the simplest of things, outside comoanies such as Hitches and Glitches, Jim'll Fix It all come here, there are also a few guys who live at The Villa who do maintenance, they will be on the Villa Forum, the only one I have used was JBL for doing some lights, and they were just fine. If it is a new house the LL definitely if it has just been handed over, but in any case maintaining of AC should be a LL cost but best sort it before you move in. Maid agencies I have used are Super Maids, Sky Maids and Jessica, all have their good and bad! HTH's and welcome to The Villa...

Yep, summer was crazy. I always worked the first 2 weeks of the summer and the last 2 weeks. Then the remaining 2 weeks I would split over the autumn, winter and spring term as it warranted.

The Intersport shop next to ACE at FCity has a foot scanner for gait assessment. I have a moderate pronation and high arch, and suffer terrible shin splints. They have recommended a pair of Asics GT2160's, an Adidas cant remeber the model but both are for stability with cushioning.

It may well have changed since last year, however, our LL amongst other things wanted to decrease the number of cheques we paid. RERA advised that in any event if the LL wanted to make any amendments to the contract i.e number of cheques then he had to give us at least 90 days notice prior to the end of the contract. Anything less than 90 days would not be entertained. Hence, my comment below. If he has not allowed 90 days to make an amendment then he would have to wait until the next contract to make that amendment. If he wants to give you notice to quit, then he has to do so at the end of the contract via a specific form along with 12 months notice. But as I said this info was from last year so may have changed since then.

But he has to give you 90 days notice if he changes any terms in the tenancy. Assuming he has not done that.

I think most of the chicken here is no refreezable. The ropey looking fresh chicken in Spinneys is fresh and freezable, but the nice looking pumped up ones aren't. If I am freezing it I always buy the fresh breast loose chicken at C4. I personally wouldn't eat it now.
