I am totally confused now. Our Lease runs out in June, he has given us 3 months notice to leave, is there ANYTHING we can do? I have read all the replies, but there seem to be some contradictions. I am desperate for some clarification. Thanks. Of course, as many have told you from experience, you email him state the UAE Law regarding 12 months notice and make sure you give him your intent to renew. Put it in writing, and then it is done. If he doesn't like it tough! I am sure he will blow his chest out and try to bully you into moving, just ignore it. Keep everything in written format, your lease if renewable will automatically renew so long as you have expressed your intent to renew. He cannot just kick you out and let him go to the RC and file the complaint, he will soon be told. http://www.7daysindubai.com/Know-rights-Dubai-s-tenants-challenge-excessive/story-18059736-detail/story.html I don't what else we can tell you, but read this and know your rights! I am not sure what else you are waiting to here, you need to do it or move out. <em>edited by emlsnre on 27/02/2013</em>

DH's company covers ours, we get an allowance bi-annually, at the moment it covers our rent and leaves a little over in our pocket. But the way things are going with rental prices suspect this won't be the case for too much longer :-(

I know of somebody who recently went to RERA to ask if they had to leave their villa as LL wanted it back with 3 months notice. As JenniDxb said RERA told her that LL was within his rights to give 3 months notice. However the Rent Committee said 12 months notice, unfortunately they had agreed to move out after the advice given by RERA.... RERA have no law over the rent committee The rent committee are the guys to speak with Any issues with rent and LL you speak with the rent committee, RERA should not be involved nor should you speak the regarding this full stop. They cannot give you 3 months notice to leave unless your rental contract is non renewable and it states this, the area has increased and you do not want to pay the higher amount You have many rights now and the papers have been full of this Absolutely, but it is surprising how many people don't realise until too late. But why is it that RERA and RC are giving out such different rules? Surely if it is the law, then both should be singing from the same hymn sheet so to speak...

My dh requires arthroscopic surgery on his hip for femeral narrowing and a likely labral tear. The ortho here told him he wouldn't find anyone with the right credentials here to successfully do the surgery and that he should look elsewhere. Having spoken with surgeons in France and the US, bot state at least 2 months recovery.

So, just to clarify, he has to give 12 months notice, whatever the reason? Yes unless your contract specifically states Non Renewable or you have done something to breach the contract....

He doesn't have a choice, its 12 months notice regardless of whether he wants to sell, move in, refurbish etc... Just tell him as per UAE Law NO! We had a similar problem, and thanks to some great advice on here especially from Clairehdp, we are in the same place 2 years on! Stand your ground, be polite and state the facts, let him go to rera and file a case if he wants to, they will soon send him on his way!

Guess it depends whereabouts you are heading in Dubai. I can do DSO to UAQ in 45mins on the bypass road, not sure how much extra for RAK but would think you would need a good hour.

They are relying on people to cave in and pay, please don't. Our LL tried a 25% increase on our first renewal, we stood our ground following advice from the Fountain of Knowledge that is EW, and he backed down. It took 6 weeks of repeatedly saying no as per UAE Law you are not entitled, but he finally got the gist.... We are in our 3rd year at the same place now and he hasn't tried it again since.

18months ago we had an assessment at the Brain & Learning Centre, the outcome was she shoukd be a high achiever and we should look at her learnjng environment. This didn't sit well with the school. Recently she has had an assessment with Ed Psych Christa Strauss, outcome again she should be a high achiever, but she is under performing against her ability. Neurologist like B&L suggest bright child, look at learning environment. It's a hard one to manage, school places are limited and we dkn't want to jump from e frying pan into the fat. DD went to a montessori nursery and then a year at a small private school, we were told then that they felt she was smart but that she needed a high level of stimuli as she bored very quickly. Now she has a complete disinterest in pretty much everything related to school. So armed with all this information are you changing schools to one who will nuture your child? What do you feel the future holds if you continue on the path you are presently on? We are on wait lists, so given the opportunity then yes we would want to move her somewhere more suited to her style of learning. Will that happen ? You know Dubai. There are varying options including returning home. If we stay put I feel life will become increasingly difficult for her, the last thing we want is an anxious child.

Congratulations.... Sorry I have no first hand advice, but I do recall a thread on here from last year. The couple had married, but the hospital picked up a discrepancy between the marriage cert and e delivery date, i.e. It was apparent that they nad conceived prior to marriage. I am not sure what the outcome was, but also heard of another couple who were deported. I will have a search and see if I can find it.

We had ours drawn in the UK, then when we arrived we wanted to set up an interim guardianship for our dd, so we saw a solicitor here and she also checked our UK will and fortunately the way it was worded was adequate to protect us here. But I must state that we hold no assets here such as property, had we then it would have been a different case.

Mmm, not so sold on mine (Xmas present) - yes it has a USB port (unlike my iPad) but to me it seems clunky, takes forever to load internet in wifi places, HATE the soft keyboard, for now will stick with my iPad. I think maybe it's aimed at people who work for Microsoft to take travelling, but not for us anywhere/anytime folks. Do you have the RT or PRO? I was amazed how quickly mine processes. I have used an ipad for the last 18 months, so it took a few hours to get back into the Windows use but loving it.

I think so long as you can see for yourself that your child requires some help then OK. However, I think sometimes here there can be some scare tactics that make you feel that your child is struggling, but don't worry I can or I know somebody that can help mentality, hence the conflict.

I have heard of schools offering additional tutoring services outside of school hours. But payment is made to the school not the tutor. Also heard that this tutoring involved showing the child how to answer exam paper in order to obtain highest marks, i.e some cgart questions near the end of the exam they are told to do first.

I feel your frustration, when we arrived here we were told dd was bright and then very quickly it took a nose dive. We have had a number of assessments now and each states the same, she scores very superior to high averages which warrants a high achiever, however, she is under achieving significantly at school. We have seen a clinical Nero psych and a neurologist. Each assessment has pointed to learning environment. Some kids just don't learn the same as the average kid, this doesn't make them silly or below average it just means the delivery needs to be different. And there in lies the problem, especially being located here where alot of schools are businesses and ultimately they are interested in the majority not the minority students in my experience. <em>edited by emlsnre on 16/02/2013</em>

A trip where "all the teachers were drinikng". There is often a perception gap with children who say "everyone in my class does x y z, everyone in my class is allowed to....." and they apply the same judgements to adults too, does the OP know this for a fact or could this be an exaggeration...? this is why I was asking how OP knew this, sometimes kids can exaggerate, but maybe you have heard or seen evidence to the contrary. if there was no duty rota staff and they were ALL drinking then I would not find this acceptable.

EXACTLY !!! even if it is a grey area why oh why can a teacher just not go with out alcohol for a few days?!?!??! Is it really worth it?!?!? Again, you are suggesting that teachers are engaging in irresponsible, risky behavior by having one or two drinks at a three hour social. Does anyone really believe that this amount of alcohol is going to impair anyone to the point where they are no longer capable of caring for their students? Has this info come from a child on the trip? Or have you seen pics? If it is how you describe and there was no shift duty and they were ALL drinking then I would not find this acceptable. Having alcohol at a work-related social/dinner is a cultural norm in US/Europe. Nor is it illegal. Well this is a school trip overseas where all teachers were drinking and approx a quarter of the students are Muslim , but religion was not the point at all. The whole point to get opinions.

If they were not on duty and there was sufficient cover to supervise and care for the children then I wouldn't object to a glass of vino or bottle of beer but not to excess. How do you know they were drinking? Depends as others have said what the expectation was from the school.

http://www.7daysindubai.com/Know-rights-Dubai-s-tenants-challenge-excessive/story-18059736-detail/story.html Even for own use 12 months notice. Did you give him notice of your intent to renew? However if you ring RERA and the rent committe they say a landlord can give 90 days notice to a tenant to vacate if the tenant doesn't agree then 12 months non renewable contract must be given to the tenant. Yes thats why I asked if they had given their intent to renew. A friend fell for this a while ago, didn't think they had a choice other than to leave, so agreed to move. Only then to find out that actually they could have got 12 months notice.

Have you tried the pharmacies at City and American Hospital... I was under the impression these would only give you the drugs if prescribed by the same hospital (American / city). I had a script filled by City pharmacy about 18 months ago that wasn't prescribed by them, so unless they have changed it should be ok. Maybe call them first to make sure.

Same as WG, if it is convenient for us then they can come. Howver, did have an agent rock up during the week with another man. He said he had arranged a viewing, not with us he hadn't. Anyway he was demanding my dh number, which I didn't give him, took his card and waved him goodbye! Hopefully he wont try that again without actually arranging with us. Interesting LL said he had never heard of them, so very glad I stood my ground and didn't let them in.

I think I'll have to ring and speak to the manager. I thought it was a mistake, but both the receptionist and the hairdresser insisted it was right. I didn't want to kick up too much of a fuss without checking that I was in the right. It's a shame as they did a really good job, but I definitely won't be going back!! emlsnre - I I do have longish hair, but it'd have to be down to my toes to warrant that price!! and don't worry I have a couple of years before I become the dreaded long-haired 40-something!! Hey, hey.... Theres nothing wrong with us 40+ longish hair gals! Lol... I use Ted Morgans and haven't seen a seperate charge for toner, just the highlights and cut/blow dry.
