Wow that does sound steep... Do you have really long hair? Hope you are not over 40! Lol... I have shoulder blade length hair and just had a half head of highlights, cut and blowdry and cost 680. That seems very strange the way they have charged you, and would take it further with a manager.

We got there at 8.30 ( gates opened at 8) for a 10 pm show and there were huge queues already. Add to that well heeled queue jumpers ( my pet peeve! ) and poor organisation , I'd say get there before gates open. Huge lines for food - popcorn, crepes, potato chips, shawarma, samosas, etc - and loo's. Also towards the end, we heard ushers suggesting to people who were coming in towards the end, about 5 minutes before the show started, that seats were no longer available and maybe they'd like to sit on the steps!! Thankfully, nobody was insane enough to do that. However, the ushers themselves sat on the steps. We also found they locked all the doors to the venue once the show started - husband found out during the 20 minute intermission, when he nipped out to smoke. Oh, and they are confused about where people can actually smoke! getting into parking was smooth, leaving a pain - not organiser's fault, I will never stop being amazed at how impatient and mannerless a lot of people in Dubai are! Especially, people who look like they should know better. Seating is drop down seats for gold and silver classes. Royal and platinum have individual chairs. Quite strict about camera, I only managed these because an usher was distracted. Took them because of the lack of info available either from the organisers or the net about actual seating. Having said all that, we had a good time. The show was good and people genuinely enjoyed themselves. A lovely night out. How can seats no longer be available if you have a ticket for that section? Are the tickets actually checked to make sure people are sitting in the right section or was it just a free for all? edited because i'm having problems linking the images . edited by tkoshy on 07/02/2013 edited by tkoshy on 07/02/2013 edited by tkoshy on 07/02/2013 edited by tkoshy on 07/02/2013 edited by tkoshy on 07/02/2013

I was somewhere out of my comfort zone this afternoon (Jumeirah) and I swear, I have never seen so many botoxed longerthanshoulderbladeplatinumblondehaired skinny women in one place. Not a pretty sight. Oh please.... I am just coping with the wrinkles, don't get me started on the skinny!!

I have just belw the shoulder hair too, and while getting my hair cut the other day felt really old. The girl cutting my hair had such young, smooth and wrinkle free skin, then I kept seeing my brown beaten tram lines and felt ancient! If only I wasn't so yellow, I would be in botox heaven!!!

Oh bless her, I have a 7 year old that burst into tears today because she said the teachers hate her! It is very hard, some kids are just immune to it others are very sensitive. I have tried reassuring mine in the past that it isn't a personal thing it is just that everybody communicates differently. Unfortunately at the age of 7 it is difficult to understand this and all they see is an adult being mean and angry. Maybe just let the teacher know that she is sensitive and the effect she has had on her. In my experience the teacher hasn't realised how upset and the effect their words have been. Also, if the teacher doesn't have kids of their own they may not realise how they can impact on a child.

Has anyone heard of this, if you have been renting for 2 years or more the Landlord only has to give you 2 months notice?? Our LL is trying to sell and one of the agents has just advised us of this new rule... We had thought that we would get 12 months notice at the end of our existing contract.....slightly anxious now... I spoke to the rent committee about this recently and they said no matter how long you've been in the house the landlord can give you 90 days notice to move. If you as a tenant don't agree then they have to give you 12 months notice to vacate or a 1 year non renewable contract. Thanks, this is what I was expecting, so am just hoping this Agent is trying it on..

I vaguely remember reading here about a new law having been introduced to that effect, emlsnre, but I can't find anything all that relevant when I do a search here, I'm sorry. Oh no..... I have searched and can't find anything which refers to it. Did see an artical in the National from 23 Dec which still stated the 12 months notice......

We used DKC for clearing and they dropped the dogs off to us, so can't comment on boarding but always here positive things about them and their customer service is by far the best I have received in Dubai.

The first show starts at 630pm but open the tent at 6 to get seated. The late show starts at 930pm. This is one great show. We all enjoyed it. For those that can't find parking near the tent, you can park in the mall. They have golf carts and tuc tucs that drive you from the restaurants at festival city to the circus (both ways). I think it's 5 aed for the ride. Thanx for the tip, wasn't too sure how far it was to walk from the restaurants.

You may find the decision is out of your hands - all the performances i checked were sold out for gold seats, only silver or super expensive Ok, I checked last night and there were some side golds left, but maybe the site isn't realtime... I am thinking the Silver maybe better for dd anyway.

Thinking about going this weekend too, do you just park in Fest City normal parking and walk out passedthe restaurants or is there a specific area to park for the circus?

Just been looking at the contract and it says 'Renewal of contract is at the discretion of the Landlord' does this mean he can say he doesn't want to renew at the end of April this year? Panicing as really don't want move out! No it is a standard clause don't lose sleep over it...

Thanks, just trying to work out if the Gold seats are all level or are they elevated? Have a child with us so if the Golds are just flat levels then visibility for them may be a problem, I am guessing the Silver is raise row after row... Any idea? This I don't know. But maybe you could call the World Trade Centre and ask what the set up will look like. They would surely know. Thanx will try them again...

Not sure about departure but my folks flew in a few weeks ago and said there was no passport control in the new terminal and that you have to get on a train to Terminal 3. They said it was all a bit of a faf.... Maybe different for departures though, does it not say on your ticket/itinerary?

Depends on budget, if you have in excess of 450/500k then Al Barari is beautiful. If not then AR, and Silicon Oasis have good community facilities. If you are not bothered about hopping in a car to get some milk then The Villa is also very convenient for school. Jumeirah Islands is definitely too far, depends how much time you want to spend on the road.... JI will probably take a good 45 at best but upto an hour if traffic is bad, unless the roads have got better. AR 15/20mins, DSO and The Villa 10/15 mins.

Tallyscot I am sorry to hear your DS is so unwell and really hope you find the right help here in Dubai for him. From reading your earlier post it sounds as though he has been unwell for some time, I don't have any psych recommendation for you but I really would set up some relationship with a good GP here and let them support and guide you. As a family doctor we use Dr Gordon Bland and or Dr Nicola Deamer, both are now at HealthBay Polyclinic in Uptown Mirdiff. Thank you Emlinre for your concern. I'm a cardio-thoracic nurse specialist and my DS's father is a Doctor (hospital Consultant). We don't use a GP for that reason, we have never had a need as we can refer, diagnose and treat most family ailments and if we can't, we'll have a friend who can in another field. :) My DS has a syndrome he was born with and has had treatment all his life. We are only here another year, and since we know nothing of the psychiatric side of things here in Dubai and have no contacts (here). I am just a getting tired of always going back and forth to the UK and would also have preferred he had someone here in case of emergency, like now! His father can prescribe medication but this is not his field and of course prefers to seek advice. Thank you once again for your concern. OK thats good, but if you found a good GP I was thinking they would be able to make the best referal for your son, as they would have a better idea of the good, bad and the not to go there ones. Hope you get some good help soon, all the best.

If you have a good class rep they are likely to organise a coffee/lunch get together for you to meet the other mums. It will also depend on the class mix, sometimes you may not see other parents at pickup or drop off as their maids/drivers do the job. Do you know the class that your 5 year old is going into?

My reference to the money making scheme was directed at the blood tests.... However, I understand that it is a UAE requirement to have the rabies shot yearly, but the vet I saw was trying to tell me that it had to be done yearly if I wanted to go back to UK, even though there passports state 3 years he said that the UK wouldn't accept them unless yearly. This isn't the case. It's not that the UK won't accept them - it's that they can't leave the UAE as it's the UAE requirement (as Tiguana lady states) that the rabies vaccination is delivered to the animal annually and it has to be within the year - if you go a few days over you have to start again which includes the blood test. No Claire, the vet told me that the UK would not take them... Not that the UAE would not authorise their release. I am fully aware that rabies is required in Dubai annually to obtain the municipality tag. The confusion wasn't anything to do with the UAE side it was UK end thst the info was wrong. OP read the links you will see that No Blood Test is required so long as the cat has had the shot and I think it states 21 days has lapsed. When we bought our cat over to Dubai we used Alison from the Dubai Doghouse and it was her who pionted out to us that the UAE requirement is annual rabies vaccinations. Thank goodness she did tell us as I had been informed from the UK that she was good now for 3 years. So.....best advice is to keep up an annual rabies jab and you will be able to leave with no problems. OP if your cat is from Dubai and has never had the rabies blood test and your vaccinations have not been done annually I'm sure you have to start the process from scratch so it will include the blood test but others have given you the links. We used the pet hospital vets in the Green Community when bringing our cat back to the uK - they seemed very well informed and we also used Alison again as she was supberb. Millie the cat arrived back in the UK with no problems and no delays. Most definitley do not sedate a cat. We put in her favourite blanket so she had the smell of home in her crate - that should help if she's a nervous cat. Good luck - I'm sure everything will work out fine.

A vet really said he would sedate an animal for a flight?? Wide berth, any airline that knew of this I am sure would not transport the animal.... The sedation lowers blood pressure which then can also lower more once airbourne.... Which can result in death..... See a different vet please.... I didn't mean for you to use dkc. But you could email them and ask them for the requirements for your catsand just say there is a possibility that you may be moving and want to get your ducks in a row....

The certificate would be needed anyway, the same as you need to obtain within 48 hours of departure from UK. It is normally signed off when they do the tick treatmemt the vet signs off that animal fit to go, etc... As GeordieExpat said, I am not sure if some vets just don't realise or if they are in fact just trying to make more $$....

Get a second opinion.... Maybe ask DKC... Ask them for the current requirements, they have always been very helpful. Show the vet the links which have been provided here, they are official DEFRA requirements, then see what he says. Dubai is a listed non EU country so no blood test required for UK entry. My friend shipped her dog back last year, no blood test..!

But UAE is a listed non EU so you shouldn't have to do the test, just be upto date on vaccination. http://www.defra.gov.uk/wildlife-pets/pets/travel/pets/countries/noneu-countries/

The law changed last January.... Vets here don't always keep upto date unfortunately..... http://www.defra.gov.uk/news/2011/06/30/new-rules-pet-passports/ I agree with this, but they also make money out of us by insisting on a yearly rabies vaccination when it isn't actually needed. Oh absolutely, one threw me into a panic, i had come out from UK with dogs, their passport rabies vaccine was valid and stamped for three years. The vet insisted I would not gain entry to UK without quarantine unless they had it yearly! So I emailes DEFRA and they kindly responded with the answer I already hoped they would. Sent it onto the vet for their info and they said that it must have changed recently...... LOL...
