Another "Low Leveller" here, I worked in a UK State school in Hampshire that was just fantastic. The teaching staff all more mature people with kids of their own who had been teaching for 20+ years. Our dd went to a very good private school, again for the most part teaching staff were all maturer, settled family types. Here in my experience as an earlier poster said, the teaching staff are largely singletons, no kids, not too old in years or experience and don't have the same attitude to care as what we experienced in the UK. There are a few maturer teaching staff who are here with their families, however, most are single, youngish, northern ladies. Nothing against singles, or northerners (my own family are from the dark side), and I do try not to begrudge them their youth.... but it would just be nice to have a more experienced and understanding bunch...

I think what Marink means is that there probably isnt an overall best one and that you need to trial and error before finding your best one. Our dd started learning through somebody who lived nearby and we couldn't believe the progress she made. So in our experience finding the right teacher who the child connects with is paramount to ensure they want to practice at home. Unless of course you are a parent who is OK with making them do it regardless of whether they want to or not.

Out of interest what are the primary fees, on the web site they look ok but are they not reflective of a change? Emlsnre if you are new to the school in Sept 2014 :FS1 is 52,000 FS2-Y6 is 65,000, Year 7-9 85,000, Y10-11 96,000, Y12-13 is 106,000. These are only proposed and not sure if KHDA approved. WOW!!!

XBOX Video, XBOX Music, XBOX Games is all a brand name not A Console.... So it is Microsofts equivalent to Apples Itunes. So yes this is where you should be buying the stuff from regardless of not having an XBOX console. Hope that makes sense. Doesn't matter which way you get there..... From the start screen you should see a Desktop icon, if you click that it will give you a full destop display, and using IE from there will keep the address bar up permanently for you. It really is very easy, but if you aren't used to it I am sure it will feel very alien. Just have a play and am sure you will be flying with it in a day or so....

1. XBox for Windows is the equivalent of Itunes for Apple. Where are you trying to buy it from when it directs you to XBox? 2. Right mouse click anywhere on screen to display URL bar. Assume you are doing this from Windows 8 App page not the full Desktop. Click on Desktop tile to get full Windows Destop and IE. HTH's

I think it can be a little misleading when some schools state British Curriculum, as DINKS states there is only National. Some use the basis of a British type of education which mixes some but not all of the National Curriculum. So you would need them to clarify if they follow the actual National Curriculum or mix it up with other stuff.

I live at The Villa, the houses are a great size for the money. But as others have said there is a distinct lack of community facilities. We do have tennis courts now, but they are pricey at 100 an hour, and I dont think are flood lit. DSO ABCD are the first phase of Cedre and the layout of villas is a bit nicer than phase 2, you would need to have a look to see how you like it. I have heard people say they find the layout quite cozy, on top of each other kind of thing. But it is great if you are schooling, working there.

Like anywhere you will find good and bad both in state and private. My dd went to a great private in Winchester, the cost was just shy of £10k a year, and compared to the schooling here there is no comparison. It wasn't our experience that schooling in UK was expensive compared to Dubai in terms of value. I worked in a state Church of England school, that was brilliant. As others have said, get an address and work from there if you are looking at state schooling, and don't be put off if rejected, we had numerous applicants that were rejected but then accepted after appeal. Just stay calm and polite through the process. Good luck.

I'm Australian and we usually have a cold smoked ham. I have French guests this year so thought I'd try a "traditional" version. I always see such pretty pictures of hams with oranges and cloves etc and wanted to try one........ I prefer the smoked variety, go for it amd sure it will be delicious....

I think it depends where you are from. I am from UK and if you said a ham joint I would take that as either a bacon or gammon joint. I normally buy these raw from our butcher either smoked or unsmoked and then roast as a joint. When I have said a gammon joint to a US friend they didnt understand what I meant until we had it, and they said oh its a ham. We have it on Boxing Day with mased potatoes, one of my favourites.... Hope that helps in some way....

B2B, for me now that my ski-bum days of only wanting to ski are long gone, my preference is for nice skiing in a nice mountain village atmosphere with nice restaurants. So I prefer to ski in Switzerland and Austria rather than France. All of our recent ski holidays have been to Switzerland though, just because we find it easier to get to ski resorts in Switz rather than Austria. Pretty much, all the Swiss ski resorts are expensive, and their lift system is not as high tech as the French resorts, bothers DH but it doesnt bother me ! Have skied several times in Verbier, big town, great skiing, great restaurants, good range of accommodation, it's close to Geneva airport, but it can be expensive. I think you can ski Verbier from Nendaz which is much less expensive resort, but not 100% sure about that. My favourite Swiss ski resorts are Zermatt, Saas Fee and Wengen, they are all picture perfect, pedestrian and pretty much snow sure because they are high. But they all have their inconveniences. I love Crans Montana too, but it is a low resort and if it is a poor snow year than it is a disaster, we were there 2 years ago in February and there was literally no snow, I am not exaggerating ! Megeve in France is also a beautiful resort, it's low. The other French resorts I like are Meribel and Courchevel, but it's years since we were there and it seems the rich Russians have taken over and prices are through the roof. A very good all round ski town is Val d'Isere (my DH's favourite), nice town but big, incredible skiing, great lift network, restaurants and accommodation for all budget's. I have never skied in Italy, would love to though ! Haven't visited Megeve for a while, but agree it is very pretty also... Good luck, I probably have confused you more than helped you !

Have to say, Flaine has great skiing but it is one of the ugliest ski resorts I have ever been too (sorry emlsnre ), I found there was no atmosphere in the 'resort' although I could never even call it a resort, it's just purpose built ugly apartment blocks. They do have a great mountain restaurant and wonderful views of Mont Blanc from the top of the mountain though. Avoiraz is another purpose built ugly(ish) resort, but it does have a village atmosphere. No I quite agree with you, the majority of buildings are ugly, but didn't go for the architecture, just the fab skiing and stunning scenery. We found the apartments really good, nice atmosphere, stuff for the kids to do, had an indoor and outdoor pool.... If you are looking for pretty stuff Briancon (sp?) was very quaint, but the skiing not as good as Flaine. edited by emlsnre on 18/12/2012

We fly to Geneva and then get collected and taken about 1.5 hrs, weather dependant to Flaine. Stay at Montsoleil Apartments, ski in and out.. Just been looking at this on the internet.. is it self catering? I saw that eating out is very expensive? Can I ask who you booked through? Thank you for all the wonderful advice - going to spend today doing all my research! We booked flights with the airline, and then booked apartment through holiday lettings, so basically directly with the owner. The apartments have a nice little kitchen, so we prepared our own breakfast, there is a delivery of breads, pastries etc directly to the apartments, we cooked one or two evening meals and ate out the rest. Like most ski resorts you are fairly captive so yes it can be quite pricey, but you can also do it yourself and make it a little easier on the pocket....

This happened to us too, we couldn't believe it. It came in a little plastic tank, alot of them were left in these until they died... Very cruel imo, I hadn't thought about giving it to the likes of ACE, could have saved 600 dirhams on the ruddy tank we went and brought to give the fish a better environment!

Check with the Rent Committee yourself, but we were advised that the 3 month notice was for us if we did not want to renew and for the LL if he wanted to make any amendments to the contract, i.e number of cheques or increase if in line with the calculator. They told us he had to issue a 12 month written notice that would start countdown from the end of our current lease.
