Many of the resorts offer Catamaran sailing, Snorkelling trips, Dolphin Cruise, Photo Flights, Day trips to other islands etc. Before you book a resort, check for the available activities (and of course the charges for the same :)) there. Pick the resort that offers a bunch of activities that you would prefer to do. Also, call them in advance and check what are the 'conditions' that 'apply'. For example, to go for a Photo Flight, they would require a minimum number of people for it. And if that number is not met, you would be disappointed.
About Male, I dint get time to explore there. From whatever I have heard, just a half day roaming around would be enough..
