I actually roast my own coffee beans in Denmark - in a popcorn machine! I buy raw green coffee beans and then I roast them lightly and let them cool down the next 12-24 hours. I TOTALLY recommend home roasting for coffee freaks out there, the popcorn machine is not ideal but it's okay for me at the moment. Would love to find green coffee beans here as well once I get settled permanently. deira city centre carrefour have green coffee beans for sale at the spice / olivie / nut section. saw them today.

I have been going to Toni & Guy for 10 years, never had a problem, maybe lucky with the stylists i have had, been going to a girl chelsea for couple of years she is fab. Moved to DIFC last few months emirates towers closed down. Girls can i ask who does your colour at grand hyatt? i go to a girl called charnette or sharnette ( sorry lost her business card for spelling of her name ) - i have been going to her for past 7 years give or take the odd time away. she listens and makes suggestions to best suit you. she never just does her own thing like some try to do. i like her.

i love the fact that you can go out and stay in and have delivered in dubai. with a 13 month old, maybe a deliver in/pick up lunch would be better so that little one is in home environment re naps etc. you might feel more relaxed then. and dont forget to ask for help - dont do it all yourself, even the older kids will be happy to help out as will the family, dont forget its your christmas too. wafi is wonderful at christmas. (2 shops in mcc have a christmas trees in windows - see if you can spot them upper level) i would recommend ( having been last 4 years and taken small and v small grand kids ) crowne plaza sz road hotel, have christmas songs with their in house choir, they encourage the kids to join in, its such fun, they have santa and present for each child(not great but all the same, santa delivers a present, just make sure your child gets to him to get one!), mulled drink and v. little nibbles handed out. its normally on from around 16 to 24 dec. but ring and check nearer to the time. all very festive, cant wait for it again this year. also chill out with peanut butter jam ( if its still on, havent seen it advertised this year ) is on friday 23rd and they might have some festive songs as its so near christmas. have a great time what ever you decide:)

Spinneys, Choithrams and Park & Shop all have pork sections and you should be able to buy pork medallions at all these shops. The best pork room I've seen in Dubai is at the food hall at Galleries Lafayettes in the Dubai Mall. oh will check this out, didnt even know this pork section exsisted there.

The easist way is to call Skynet, they will collect direct from your address and they will not cost more than EMS express mail at the post office which I do not reccomend at all. Tel: +971 4 2826 555 http://www.skynetworldwide.net/ hth second this, we have used them last 7 years and never been let down. also post office in lamcy have always been good to and they do courier service, but i dont think its as cheap as skynet. but you cant send liquids cigs money jewellery thro post. edited by fairwater on 26/09/2011

went for first time to wafi friday fiesta brunch sat in mahi mahi and it was really lovely. we could roam around carters, medzo, thaichi and mahi mahi with cheese and biscuits from vintage. each venue had its own themed cocktails and drinks. we had the non alc. package it was 199 and was very nice indeed, a very pleasant way to spend a friday afternoon. we had nice music played in mahi mahi, carters was full on live band. the kids had an area with clowns and balloons and with burgers and hot dogs and chips. loads of lovely kids sweets in this area too, yum yum. i would def go again and sit in mahi mahi as it was lovely and bright and airy in there. they even improvised a birthday cake and song for my husband from the deserts. good time had. edited by fairwater on 24/09/2011

we lived in kenya - magadi and south africa - durban lovely back in the 1980''s - both lovely countries, security issues and personal safety issues yes big time. kenyan people are so lovely, warm and welcoming, friendly - altho we werent there as long as we were in south africa we had a wonderful time. got malaria twice in kenya and never in south africa. just make sure you get all the package sorted as you do need the medical and schooling if you have children. we lived in magadi and travelled to nairobi for shopping and taking and picking up kids from weekly boarding but karen ( suberb of nairobi ) seems a nice place to live - we had friends there. edited by fairwater on 22/09/2011

Hi Fairwater, I haven't rang agents.. why I never thought of this very obvious one! We live off 19 street also the other side of the park tho. I would love to keep walking distance to Garhoud Park as have two kids that just love it. How long have you been here? - great spot, near everything! Just would prefer a brighter villa really with some garden space... we'll get there. Thanks for your reply. hi lazydaze, we have been here year and half now and love it. my husband is 7 mins from work, son and dil literally 1 kilometer from work, garhoud has such a nice old neighbourhood feel to it and you can walk around too. lovely parks for the kids, altho i dont have any little ones at home now, but my grandchildren love it when they come out on hols. we have a nice villa but with play room for kids ( no gym - but its not very good to be honest, never see any of the children in it.) nice small shared pool that no one ever seems to swim in. small grassy areas around pool. private but small paved garden and some borders. we are in a new villa, well it was when we moved in. we are in a small compound, we have some children here but never see much of them to be honest, its very quiet here. some houses with children some without. we are a mixed bag of races, emirati, indian, brits, libyan and others i am not sure as i have never seen them! we never see each other so we never get on each others nerves. i dont work and i never see a soul most days. but we like the house and love living in garhoud, i would love to buy a house here if i could. good luck in your search.

(ps its his birthday ) we like a bit of fun, well we like a lot of fun. BUT dont want vomiting or fighting or raw eyes from smoking and not overrun with kids - dont mind kids but just not fun club stuff. where is a nice brunch thats not boring but none of the aforementioned. 2-4 couples going from mid 20's to late 50's. was thinking along lines of wafi, traituer, observatory, we like all sorts to eat but love seafood/shellfish ( not warehouse or spectrum as we have been to those ) any other suggestions and comments most welcome, thank you. edited by fairwater on 19/09/2011

I used to work for Raffles and the night club is the bane of our existence. It is separately owned by a guy who never answers his phone. He is extremely rude to hotel guests anad extremely full of himself. Many of the hotel guests have wanted to take a look or get information, and the owner has had his bouncers prevent the guests from going in and hassle them. There is more that I could tell you about this guy but I would be banned form this forum, or the thread would get deleted. The reason that the hotel staff have no clue is because they are kept completely out of the loop on anything to do with that night club. I wouldn't suggest giving that a**h*le any business. There are loads of good night clubs in Dubai. Spend your money in one that cares about customers. thanks for that, no wonder they were clueless then, thanks for that info. will steer a wide berth then. seems an odd set up to have something there thats not part of the hotel but part of the hotel. odd.

Did the staff sell them to you as natural hair? if so, that's fraud. i bought them a few months ago in the sale, so i havent used them until lately but they did tell me camel hair, but i wasnt sure if that was right, the web site is useless and when i asked again at another mikyaji they said they had no idea what they were !

I know there have been many threads on veneers, but I would love to hear your personal advise on this. I need to get veneers as my top front 4 teeth are not all the same size. I have had orthodontic treatment before and although it aligned my teeth, the dentist couldn't do anything for the actual size of my teeth - understandably. I went to see Dr. Michael from Dr. Michael's himself. Friendly chap, didn't charge for the consultation or taking photos and x-rays and took his time with me. He suggested having veneers on at least 8 of my top teeth where as I only wanted 4 as the rest look fine to me and I don't feel comfortable with the filing and playing around with the other teeth unnecessarily. He tried to explain that to achieve the perfect smile, he would need to work on more teeth, as my smile is big, although i still felt that when my smile was at the widest, i could get away with 4 veneers or maybe pushing it 6. He kept saying that his quality of work is the best as he uses the best labs in Dubai and in USA and hence more expensive. But when i asked him, what if my veneer cracks (not due to my own fault) would it be replaced free of charge, he was vague on the whole warranty thing. He showed me photos of his work, I know that his work was not photo shopped but although the smiles looked nice they just looked too fake and white. I have friends back home who have had their smiles done but look natural. Also i asked him about the filing, and he again was vague. I am scared of going to the wrong dentist who ends up giving me bulky or fake looking veneers and someone who ends up filing my natural teeth down unnecessarily to make his work look perfect. I have seen other threads on veneers with Dr. Madhu and other recommended dentists. Ladies, I would be ever so grateful, if you have had veneers done with Dr. Michael or any other dentists that haven't filed your teeth down too much, and you have managed to get a nice smile without doing too many teeth, please please advise. I need to know the process, how long does it take, is there anesthetic given, can it be done in one day or do i have to go for several visits, costs per veneer and do you get to see the BEFORE? Also have you had your gum line raised with lazer due to the veneer - he also suggested that for one or two teeth - in Dr. Michaels case, he uses some pen to draw a liquid on the tooth to show you how it would end up looking (looks 90% accurate to the real thing from what i saw in the photos). This way you know what it would look like exactly on you before you go ahead? Thank you so much. sorry been a while coming back. i have no experience of luxe dental clinic as i go to dr michaels, but my dil had 4 done at luxe, on the front top to even teeth out, she had lumineers and i think she has had 4 in total, not sure if it was 2,000 dirhams for 2 or 4. but there was no filing and she says the dentist she goes to is very good. she is very happy. give them a call and see what they charge now, as hers were done beg. of the year. good lluck
