Hey there!!! I am so happy you found the joy of this water workout jophiel! It is a great exercise and it is SO MUCH FUN! I have managed to finish it in exactly 30 minutes, and I have done A LOT of reps (much more then the video suggests). But as you said, it's OK to just do all the moves (as many you feel like doing), without thinking about the time. It is good to remember that in water everything gets harder the faster you move. So every time you feel like you are not feeling the moves enough - speed up! I was really tempted to do this water workout again today, but since I suddenly had an hour to myself, I decided to use it for a workout at home. I used my skipping rope for 28 minutes and then finished a muscle workout in 25 minutes. My total time today was 53 minutes. I know it's more than enough, but I just couldn't help myself ;). My body is aching and I just can't wait for tomorrow's body pains (I'm a former athlete so I'm a body pain junkie, haha.) I think I'm going back to the pool tomorrow :). What did you today?

Hey jophiel and exile :)!!! Great job jophiel, your workout today sounds once again SUPERB!!! I am so glad to hear that you have done something that you first thought you can not do! Amazing, so happy for you! Your front thighs get sore since you use those muscles to lift your legs into the "sprinter's" position. When you do these abs make sure you press your back tightly into the ground, especially when you lift your legs. Press you belly button towards the ground, making your stomach as flat as possible. Exhale when you push your knees upwards and inhale when you straighten your leg. Think about your abs as you do this move! I hope this helps :)!!! Let's keep moving ladies!

Hi exile!!! So happy to have you with us in this challenge :), welcome!!! Jophiel and I have been the only active members of this thread so we are really happy have you join us!!! 5 kg and 5 weeks sounds very doable, especially if you are working out with a trainer that will also instruct you with eating right - you have a great possibility of loosing even more. Maybe you will get so exited about exercising during this challenge that it might become a habit for you - I certainly hope so! So welcome to 30-DFC exile :)!!!

Your workout sounds SUPER effective, great job jophiel :)!!!!!!!!! I love the sprinter's abs :)... Tomorrow I'm going for a brunch, but will go swimming in the morning and do the same workout as today, but on Saturday I want to do something else than swimming, haha!!! And yes... I think you misunderstood my hint concerning the "original" place, haha ;). Let's keep up the good work jophiel! I'm so proud of YOU!

Hey ladies... or is it just me & you jophiel ;)? If it is just us left, maybe we can continue our challenge in the original location? I went swimming again today and I repeated my exercise from yesterday. My arms were killing me as I was swimming with the board between my thighs (breaststrokes)... I was super exhausted, but I didn't quit! Yay! Tomorrow I might swim again, or do some pilates! What did you do today? :)

Keep us posted, when you get an internet connection :)! Have a GREAT, active holiday! And jophiel, you seem to be doing better and better every day :)! I'm so happy to hear that you are feeling great after the exercises and that you really seem to enjoy the workouts! So... WOW. I'm super happy for you :)! Keep up the good work! I swam 10 laps breaststroke. 5 laps with a board under my hands. 5 laps with a board between my thighs. 2 laps with a board under my hands and 8 laps breaststroke. Swimming felt super easy today, even though I really tried to swim fast. When I finished, my heart rate was so high, and I really felt like I had a proper workout. FEELING GREAT :)!

WOW! You worked hard again jophiel! And you did a great variety of muscle work in addition to cardio! Excellent :)! And just keep on introducing yourself to that rope ;)... Be patient, you might end up being best friends. And if not, you don't loose anything by trying to make friends with it. Hi there, you lovely ladies! Hit the gym, saw the rope again and had a couple of teaser skips. Then QUICKLY back to reality, and: 45+10 (or 15, lost count at one point, struggling with some push-ups/dips on the plate). Cardio + muscle workout; meeelloww walk on treadmill (HR at Heart Healthy, speed at 6, inclination 4; a 15- second sprint at 14.4 in the end); arms/back/chest on the plate; abs on the floor. Feel good, but a long day, adn soo hitting the bed next! See you tom! :)

YES DAN LOU, YOU HAVE THE RIGHT ATTITUDE :)! Just stay positive and keep moving! Some days we work harder and some days are a bit easier - it all adds up in the long run. The main point is to stay active, and something is indeed better than nothing. ALWAYS. Playing tennis with your son was definitely a good exercise and as you run after balls and pick them up, your muscles are working and your heart rate gets up :)! And great job with skipping rope Dan Lou! Little by little you will get used to skipping rope, as your body starts to learn & remember how its done! Keep up the good work and have at the gym tomorrow!!! :) I'm so happy you went swimming Dan Lou! Swimming is an excellent and gentle way of exercising ! It burns a lot of calories! I just love your positivity because I'm sure it does burn a lot, but you may need to do more than 10 laps, and perhaps a more vigorous breaststroke than my leisurely pace, HOWEVER, in the something is better than nothing philosophy I'm happy. Today I played tennis with DS for half an hour, more walking for the balls than playing but I'll take what I can get! Tomorrow going to the gym whilst DH is showering (and therefore kind of child minding!), there I've said it, now I must do it. 5.30am EEEEEKK!! Oooh, might have to rename this the skipping thread! When I do mine I usually do 60 secs and then another exercise, rest 30 sec and repeat 3 times in total. Geez the heart rate gets up!

And Jophiel, great job at the gym again! Jogging is definitely IN !!! And wow you tried jumping rope, YAYYYY!!! It's ok that you didn't fall in love with it straight away, but do a few skips every now and then... and you might learn to love it. There are several different techniques for jumping rope, some easy and some very challenging. Hey ladies, and especially Dan Lou & Jophiel :)! Did you exercise today :)??? I skipped rope and did some low-impact cardio moves for 25 minutes + 30 minutes of pilates! I really went overboard today, haha. But I feel great and can't wait to go for a run to the beach tomorrow! I will try keeping it within 30 minutes tomorrow.

Hi Dan Lou! Great to hear that you exercised again today, good job :)! Exercising releases endorphines and that's why we people usually feel good after we have worked out. So working out can be a great escape, when we feel stressed or upset. So next time you have a head ache like this, just head to the gym again and drink a lot of water :)! If you are running on the tread mill at speed 9,5 it is more than enough, so don't worry. If you want to challenge yourself, do sprints of 1 minute and then drop the speed to "normal" for 5 minutes, keep on doing this (1+5) as long as you want. And I'm also glad to hear that you use the incline function. If you are interested in trying some new moves or want to focus on some certain areas in your body, just let me know!

Haha, jumping rope for 25 minutes is easy once you get used to it, trust me! Exercising is all about what you teach your body to do :)! And good to hear that you are on a different level now, and moved on from 'jogging' :D, you're really taking this challenge seriously! I love your attitude! It's great that you ordered that pilates dvd since that will definitely kick your abs and back! Let me know when the dvd arrives, and I will give you a few hints of how to do all those moves for max effects!

Great to see you're back Dan Lou :)! I was thinking about you! I am so happy to hear that you exercised today and are planning to do that tomorrow as well! Good job!!! The thread disappeared since I had posted some links to my blog here. So we are keeping this thread "blog-free" this time :)! I'm happy to hear that you have some exercise dvds! Many of them are usually great! And if you have many different ones, you will not be bored for sure. I skipped rope today for 16 minutes and did a pilates exercise for 25 minutes. Pilates is great, especially if you combine it with some light cardio as a warm up. Do you have any pilates dvds! Keep up the good work Dan Lou! :)

Today I'm doing pilates! I have Ana Caban's 5 DAY FIT PILATES - it is the best pilates DVD :)! You can order the dvd online or even buy it here in Virgin Megastore etc. I think. Pilates moves are a bit too complicated to explain here, haha. GYM EXERCISES: Legs: single leg squat with a towel Place a towel under your other foot. As you do a squat, slide your other leg to the side as you go down and pull it back in as you come up. This move is AMAZING! You'll feel it everywhere, your thighs (inner, outer), butt and glutes. I usually do 25 left+25 right+25 left+25 right. Abs + whole body: walk down Start by standing, put your hands on the ground and walk with your hands and straighten your body (hands + feet on the ground, straight body, control your core) - stay for 1-2 seconds and walk back. 10 to 15 reps at a time is enough! Arms: Around the world with dumb bells Take a dumb bell in each hand (2-5 kg). Draw a circle with the dumb bell on your sides. Keep your hand straight (you can bend the elbow just a little bit so that your hand is not locked) and lift it all the way up in front of your body and then all the way down behind your body - so you are drawing a circle ON THE SIDE of your body. You can let your shoulder follow your hand from the front to the back. Keep your core controlled. Do as many as you can, right left right left... CARDIO: DO different exercises 5 minutes at a time (to complete the 25 minutes cardio). Jumping rope, jumping jacks, jogging, kicks, marching, anything you can imagine. Have fun :)!

Sounds good jophiel! Yes, remember that the challenge is on for 30 days in total - and the 30 minutes/ day is really enough. But I am still proud of you, the way you have done more than 30 minutes every day! Do you have access to any workout dvds? I'm doing pilates tomorrow at home. Pilates is a great way of exercising, and it is so different than everything else. I know you told me that you can only go to the gym during this challenge. Are you doing the same moves every day? Would you be interested in doing something else - I mean new moves that would activate your brain & body in a different way than the moves you do now?

Me: Hi, I am looking for FCUK’s sugarscrub and body cream, do you have it? (FCUK = French Connection UK) Sales assistant: Hhhmmm… I don’t know. Me: F-C-U-K – the brand, you know? At least you had it at Marina Mall… FCUK? SA: No… I am not sure. *looks around* Oh, F-U-C-K! Yes, we have ****! *takes me to the shelf* Me: Thanks! *and trying to keep my face normal* HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA! I know, I am being childish, but this was so funny :-D ! And once again a great example of Dubai’s entertaining customer service. After Boots I went to a few electronic shops, trying to find a camera that I have been desperately trying to find for months in Dubai. I visited several shops, but all the cameras were sold. In the last shop I visited, I almost got my camera. Me: Hi, I would like to get this camera here, do you have it? I want to buy it. *Pointing at the camera on display.* SA: Yes, we do have it madam! Me: Great!!! I’m so happy, it was sold out everywhere else! *jumping up and down of joy* SA: Yes madam, we also sold out. This only show piece. Me: :-( Well… When do you get more stock? SA: Never. Me: *WTF, this camera was just launched!*

Somewhere in Europe a few weeks ago... An old lady is just paying for her groceries, when one of the cinnamon buns she has taken, falls out from the plastic bag and hits the ground. The girl at the cashier is trying to help her and catch the bun, but accidentally kicks the bun and it rolls even further on the floor... Cashier: Madam, please take another bun, it must be really dirty now! Old lady takes the bun from the floor and puts it back in the plastic bag with the rest of the buns, saying: It's OK, these are for my guests... Teehee... *laughs out loud* Cashier: :\: :D

There are two security gates to enter our villa compound, visitors and residence. The other morning my DH pulls up at the residence gate, waits for security guard to press the magic button, nothing. Security guard comes out with his clipboard... SG - "Morning Sir, which villa you go to?". DH - "Villa nbr 000". SG writes that down on his clipboard. SG - "Your name sir?" DH - "You want my name?" SG - "Yes Sir" DH - "But I live here!!!" SG does more writing on his clipboard, gate goes up... SG - "Thank you Mr ButIlivehere, have a good day". DH was just too tired to correct him and drove on through. Haha! A bit the same happened to my friend at work in Finland! My friend: So can you send the letter to ABC Management? Phone: To what? *My friend repeats* Phone: To A B D Management? My friend: Oh well... Can you send it to Apple-Bubble-Copper Management? Got it? *she tries to make the letters clear* Phone: Ok. 2 days later she receives a letter to Apple Bubble Copper Management :D

Moving to Helsinki from Dubai can be quite a shock ;)! Helsinki is very small and slow... I'm Finnish, but my husband is not and he always says that everyday is Helsinki seems like weekend. Helsinki is never too noisy, crowded or dirty. The city is very peaceful, beautiful and seems sometimes even a bit sleepy, especially during the winter months. Finland as a country has topped the lists of "best countries in the world", "best country for women in the world", "best quality of life", "happiest people"... etc... Newsweek recently reported following: Best Overall Country in the world: Finland (Honorable mention: best small country, best high-income, best education) Despite the long winter, Finland is a pretty great place to be—the best, actually. It ranked the highest overall and also comes in as the best small country, the best high-income country, and the best country for education. Its students scored first in science and second in both reading and math in the 2006 (the most recent one for which data are available) Program for International Student Assessment, a test of 15-year-olds' education skills by the OECD. Finland's schoolkids enjoy a laid-back and inclusive learning environment where shoes are optional, all teachers have master's degrees, and extra help is the norm: every year about one in three students gets individual time with a tutor. http://www.newsweek.com/photo/2010/08/15/best-countries-in-the-world.html As a woman with a financial degree, you will easily find a job in some international private bank or a company offering financial services. You will be treated more equal than anywhere else in the world. We Scandinavians are famous for our gender equality... But don't expect men to open doors for you or carry your bags ;). With a right attitude you will love it and it can be a very exotic experience for you.

Years ago, when I used to be fanatic about my body I ate only protein and very little carbs for years (I used to model and be a professional athlete)... So it is possible and many people live like that and it really works. But... it can be quite tough, especially if you workout a lot. I would suggest low GI diet, it's a more healthy and allows some carbs, but allows you to lose weight effectively. (I googled low GI - http://www.the-gi-diet.org/lowgifoods/ this explains the basics, you should also look into http://www.southbeachdiet.com/sbd/publicsite/south-beach-diet-recipes.aspx) Good foods: Fish Chicken Beef Avocado Salads & vegetables Cottage cheese (and other cheeses) Natural yogurt Berries Nuts Be careful with fruit, some fruits have a lot of carbs and sugar. When you get into a mindset, it is quite easy to keep on going with this diet! I did it for years and I am positive you can do it too :)!

Oh dear... That's tricky! It can be really difficult to choose wisely if you are eating out all the time, especially if these meals are social gatherings. Restaurant portions are often massive and you end up eating much more, than you actually need. What you can do, is to have a low-calorie snack before these meals (some veggies or fruit) to make you feel more full, so you will not over-eat or order food with your eyes, just because you are craving for something... This way, you'll end up eating less. Try making healthy choices, choose salad or steamed veggies instead of potatoes/rice/pasta and choose chicken and fish, more than you choose beef. Try eating only one real meal on dinners and order a green salad as a starter or eat a starter as your main course. On breakfasts, you can order fresh fruit with natural yogurt, all restaurants have that! You can do this! Just remember small choices every day and loving your body! :)

Controlling your weight is 99% food and 1% workouts... Being fit and healthy is another question. It seems that you are already active, so you need to cut back on your food intake - and most importantly pay attention to what you eat. If you have a habit of snacking unhealthy snacks, you need to cut them out from your diet and plan what you eat, daily. I always eat, before I go shopping for groceries - it is a very good tactic in keeping your diet healthy. When you are not hungry in a supermarket, you'll buy less treats and other cravings and you are able to concentrate in buying what you really need - healthy, fresh food. Keep a stock of fresh mini carrots, apples and berries in the fridge for the moments when you desperately need a snack! Small choices make a big difference :)! And... most of all, feel good about yourself, don't self-loath in front of the mirror and feel like a failure! When you accept and love your body, you'll treat it better! Congratulations on giving up smoking - your body is already thanking you :)! <em>edited by fairytale on 28/03/2011</em>

As lmackenzie said, there is a HUGE DIFFERENCE, between Xtreme Lashes and other lashes! I was in touch with Xtreme Lashes HQ and got the following reply from them: Unfortunately, we do not have any stylists in Dubai. There is an Xtreme Lashes stylist in Abu Dhabi. Here is their contact information: Helen Beauty Center (Abu Dhabi UAE) Contact Tel : Mobile : 971-50-621 7196 Office : 971-2-643 3444 or 971-2-643 3662 Location : Airport Road, Opposite The British School Al Khubairat (Pistache building) Mezzanine floor. I called them and the lady there said that I can come and visit any time to have the lashes put on... So apparently they are not that busy! Will definitely go and visit soon!
