hi it was Cuisinart brand and checking the receipt QR 1900 (think the price I gave before was the one reported to him indoors!) the smaller ones which don't have a compressor are not really worth the hassle hence the change up the way.

HI I recently got rid on my little icecream maker and invested in a lovely one I got in Lakeland in the City Centre. It was about QR 1300 and has a compressor (still sits on the kitchen work top) it is fab, make the mix, put it in the fridge for two hours then the ice cream maker for about 1 hour and wow great icecream. Can not keep up with the demand at the moment. Warning though the calories in homemade ice cream are scary!

Hi Qatar has many Madrassas either within the Masjid or separate buildings. I understand that the Al Fanar Centre also does classes for none Arabic speakers. Sorry can not help much more as I am not Muslim however once you arrive your local Imam will be able to assist you more. HTH

Part time work is not the norm here, you don't say what field you work in that may help with some of the responses. Qatar is ramping up the work force and recruiting is difficult as I know to my time and cost. HTH

did't know Sephora did it, since Boots Doha don't stock it and so I normally bring it back with me from a Dubai trip so that's good to know. Having said that there will now be a rush at Sephora and no stock for months!

Qatar Foundation have a protection unit for Women and Children on the D Ring Road, sure you can google them. They don't just deal with Qataris but all residents.

I know this is a long shot but friend and I just picked up a lovely saluki pup, female from Caribou coffee in Ain Khalid. Everywhere is full to take her, anyone thinking about getting a dog? She is probably about 6 months old and despite lying in the gutter was so gentle and trusting as we loaded her into the car. She is being checked out at QVC, sadly we cannot keep her as we already houses full of rescue cats and dogs. Please can anybody take her?

totally agree with kimmc3 regarding the cost of living here. 22K in home currency will sound good but if you are here to save...the 10K for accommodation is low as prices are definately on the up and companies can be very low at adjusting packages to cover the increase in housing costs. also remember water and electricity. also it is assumed that your package has airfares as extra.

"For private sector workers, Qatar restricts work to six hours a day during Ramadan (with some exceptions, depending on the type of work you do, not whether or not you’re fasting) and carries out surprise checks to ensure the labor law is adhered to." http://dohanews.co/post/27247349981/government-employees-to-work-5-hours-in-ramadan-deputy hope that helps....

I had a cat years ago in AUH who used to spend his days hunting and eating the geckos :{ he was always sick afterwards and we put that down to the tail which the geckos detaches when under attack and that it wiggles after being detached. Our theory was he ate the tail and it was wiggling in his tum (gecko revenge!)

I have a question, surely you need to sweat to cool down, the arm pits being a major area for this. If you stop the sweating in this area do you a) sweat more elsewhere and/or b) have the chance of being seriously ill as your body can not cool down. Episode of Bones noted that we sweat a cup full of sweat through our feet daily - icky factoid of the day I think.

Hi you probably went to the trade bit. At the roundabout (with the traffice police) turn towards the markets then after the fish section there is a street perpendicular to the road you are on, turn right on that and on your right hand side is a walk in market with lots of guys with barrows. This is a covered veg market for general purchases. At the moment I find all the fruit and veg a bit sad and uninteresting, partly due to the heat but also I think a lot of stuff was stopped coming in from Europe because of the E coli. HTH

that reminds about Massimo Dutti - trying to get served in there is a nightmare - i obviously am too old to be worthy of service I have walked out there a number of times when trying to buy presents for my son. It amazes me that these retail outlets dont realise how much business they loose do to indifferent staff.

Blini!!! I thought I was the only one with a boycott of Sephora. Was trying to buy some expensive makup (getting old) no one would attend, when i complained was told to come back later so I stomped off. Now I go to Faces only and they are most helpful and give loads of freebie samples to DD - the only trouble is to get there i walk through Dean and Deluca and end up spending in there!

oh how wonderfully laid back you ladies are about potty training! the quip about peeing into an eggcup by 6 months reminded me of my mother.... when DD was 14 months old Mother came to visit. Absolutely horrified by the fact DD was not potty trained and announced she must be retarded - I kid you not! No wonder our relationship has been strained for the last 30 years. DD is a wonderful teenager, fully potty trained and about to leave the nest for school.... :{ so take it all with a smile and shrug because if you blink they are all grown up..

hi dont worry, yes the visa must be paid for in cash but you can get the Al Maha service on line even if it is not the passengers Credit card. They simply use the same payment system for air tickets as for Al Maha. I have done it loads of time and never been asked nor have the passengers coming through. hth

Hi DH couldnt have key hole due to the number and position of the stones. The surgery took a couple of hours and he has a scar on his side (i call it his erroll flynn rapier scar). He had to have a couple of drains put in for the bile and something else (i forget) he is much older than me but did make an amazing recovery and just being able to eat again it was well worth it. In an ideal situation they were talking about a week in hospital. the relief of the symptoms (recurring pancreatitis and trips in ICU) by having the surgery made an amazing difference to him and our whole family. hth

ha ha my maid of 3.5 years just left and took everything that wasnt nailed down! pillows, sheets, blankets, spoon, forks, knives, pans (yes even the frying pan) it was stuff i had purchased for her use so it all became hers in her eyes! dont have a problem with it as i know she was going back to a mess with a her family hence having to leave. what i find so sad was that she boxed the whole lot up and paid for it to be shipped home which we ladies would have considered rubbish and thrown out. i dont think many of us can fully comprehend how "valuable" this stuff is to these poor girls.

after my hair trials and tribulations much of which is mentioned on here my current fave place is Salon Pour Elle at the Ramada. Did not like them a few years ago but at the moment they have a great guy RJ who is good with blonde, colouring and actually listening to what you want. I have now been 3 times in the last 5 months and it has been consistent. good luck

Hi despite our office driver suggestion of just buying the sticker at the sticker shop !!! you have to have a letter from your consultant at Hamad Hospital to take to the traffice police to obtain the sticker. Do not park in disabled without the sticker - i did will full justification due to a wheelchair passenger however got QR 500 fine and 3 penalty points despite appeal to Traffic Police ! an expensive lesson learned which I pass on free of charge! to resolve mum in a wheelchair just roll up outside places put on your hazards and get Mum out everyone will help and no one will complain then go and park the car. Mum may not like the fuss but it is a solution HTH

mine cost Qr 250 only, concurr about not being allowed to get the back windows done and yes driving at night you have to be really careful as cars seem to sneak up on you. The most important thing is that you need police permission to do this. I just went to the traffice police at the veg market, it cost QR 20 and they mark your Istama (car registration plastic card) with the permission to do it if you dont do this then you can be fined. It does make a big difference in the summer to the heat in the back of the car.

so pleased that u ladies agree that Qr 20 for a cupcake is taking the micky. even the girl on the stand when i expressed my amazement at the price was giggling. I told her i could bake a dozen at home for that (gosh beginning to sound like my nana!). There was a great cupcake lady at one of Dogs in Doha events who had wonderful cupcakes with doggy faces on and she was half the price. So much to DD's annoyance no cakes for tea last night!
