Hi All, I am feeling extremely depressed for being at home, I have 2 DDs one in grade 1 and the 2nd one will join nursery very soon. Have earlier worked in MNCs for 9 years... Applying jobs here in service and admin sectors but not received any call from any one. Any suggestion will lift my morale & show me the path for a brighter tomorrow. Waiting in anticipation. Hi, I can totally relate to that as I'm in the same boat. Have been actively job hunting in finance and accounting for a few weeks since I landed here, but haven't got anywhere. I have a 2.5 year old but I'm getting bored at home and would really like to do something, so that I can the most of Dubai. I have met a few recruiters but no interview so far, so very frustrating... r there are a lot of factors that are against us in here, but if you really want something and have to keep trying... perhaps work harder on networking to know some people who can refer you. Good luck and try to keep busy so you won't have time to feel depressed. cheers.

Fanfan - did you try the efinancialgulf website? There were lots of vacancies on that. I strongly advise you to try to get to some networking events and meet some people - jobs here often come up through referrals The online application to recrutiment agencies doesnt usually get much of a response unless you are perfect fit for the role. While you are looking - try to keep busy and get some hobbies and social activities going to keep you sane! All the best! Thanks Kitten67, thanks for the message with tips. I'm searing some groups to join on LinkedIn, please recommend me any networking events that you came across before as I'm new to this in here, but would definitely like to go. I like to meet new people. I will keep posted on how I progress. cheers.

Thanks ladies for your advice. I am feeling a bit down at the moment about the whole job hunting thing in Dubai. I have a 2 year old son I'm looking after now, but I just want to get back to work and have my own identity and life back. I had a well paid and decent job back in the UK, and wouldn't have had problem getting interviews back there, but I'm really struggling now and trying hardest to keep positive. I'm applying for a couple of jobs everyday and used all my contacts too, but it's just dead silent with my phone, only one calls me is my husband checking on me and the kid. I don't know what else I can do and how long I can keep like this, it's really demoralising. I'm trying to figure out what to do each day to keep my spirit high whilst praying for some good news. wish me luck.

I am Chinese from the UK with one little boy. I have just enrolled him in the new school Nord Anglia British International School starting in Sept 2014 where they teach Chinese whilst following a British curriculum. I am new to Dubai and looking for like minded mum to meet up and if you are interested in the Chinese culture, that's even better!

We are a French expat family with 4 kids (7, 6, 2, 0 y.o), just moved to Dubai after 6 years in China where 3 of our kids were born. Whilst in China, the 7 and 6 y.o both attended a English-Chinese kindergarten with a wonderful concept: all classes had two teachers all day long: a Canadian and a Chinese, each of them speaking his own language ( plus a chinese maid/ayi). This worked perfectly as after 3-4 years spent in that kindergarten our children are almost fluent in both languages: English and mandarin. We would like of course to maintain the Chinese for the 6 and 7 y.o. and we would like the 2 and 0 y/o to speak the language of their birth country as well. Our solution for the moment is to find a Chinese maid/nanny so that would force us ALL continue to talk a bit Chinese at home. I am not sure though that the nanny would be able to transmit a quality mandarin…but better then nothing. Also it seems a very difficult task to find a Chinese maid in Dubai (although there are 60000 Chinese in Dubai). To answer your question: yes we would love to put our 2 and 0 y.o in a Chinese/English school. A criterion is of course the distance from home. We would accept a big maximum of 30 minutes by bus for this small age. We live in Al Manara area, in front of Emirates International School. 5 days a week 8 to 12.30 . English teacher should be a native english speaking person as well the Mandarin teacher should be a chinese native speaker. I have a little passion about early education, nurseries too. I’d be very excited to assist you in any aspect of your new project , if you ever need some help. Well , at list I start getting experience in recruiting Chinese maids in Dubai, by going every weekend to the Dragon Mart and asking around :-) edited by Halva on 16/06/2012

Has anyone successfully found a job in finance and banking industry after relocating to Dubai? I have UK experience and qualification, but am looking for finance and accounting roles in banking or other financial industries, but struggling at the moment, so just wondering if there's been any success from anyone who could offer tips? I'm registered with Michael Page, Robert Half and have applied through LinkedIn, but haven't got any interviews after a month of active looking.

Hi ladies, glad to find this forum on the job hunting topic. I too am new to Dubai having been here for 3 weeks due to my husband's work transfer. I like it out here so far, but will be nicer if I had a job. Although I have a 2.5 year old who's keeping me busy currently, I am not used to not working and I like to be I financially independent. I am a qualified mgt accountant having worked in finance in banks in the UK for 10 years before moving here, but compared to the UK the market is so small I find for the types of jobs I do and I've been to a few recruitment consultants and through some contacts, but not got anywhere yet. Looking at everyone's experience here of finding a job, it seems that it takes a while so I'm afraid I will struggle and soon when the dust settles down, I will get bored though I will try to start making some friends of course. My husband's job can be quite demanding and I don't want to moan much about my frustration when he comes home, hence, have come to here to pour out my concern, hope you don't mind. I don't regret leaving my job coming here, as life is treating us pretty good here but I'm not someone used to being a stay at home mum for long, and I'd like to spend my own money too. So any help and advice on how to keep up with the momentum of getting something lined up, and staying positive would be helpful even just on the moral ground for a newbie here. Thanks!
