before spending any money on physio and various costly treatments, buy a good pair of trainers and if you are a regular walker, make sure you change trainers every 6 months. There are some good shops in DM, like Asics,Addidas, Saucony. Do not go for the cheaper brands. A good pair of trainers will cost from 400dhs onwards. As an ex-runner, I know when the Achilles tendon pain started creeping in, it was time to buy a new pair of trainers!

Christa Strauss is a clinical psychologist and does testing for adults ADD/ADHD.Her email is [email protected]. Her number is +971504549096. She operates in Knowledge Village Block 18 above Starbucks. I can highly recommend her. She diagnosed my son with ADHD. She just confirmed to me by email she was also diagnosing adults. Good luck!

Surely it is the person who matters not the nationality ? Therefore you need to meet her in person or hire one who is already in the country through an agency. This should help you hiring a maid legally http://www.expatwoman.com/dubai/monthly_faqs_EW_guide_to_hiring_a_maid_4884.aspx edited by fjcruiser on 16/02/2014

Hopefully it is just a service and 1,000dhs is not bad for full service. Don't forget that your car is only 18mths old so you have the remainder of the warranty (3 or 5 years depending on models). You can check this with the dealer. Hopefully your car is GCC and not an import.I do not know what the service intervals are for KIA but many cars need servicing more often here because of the harsh weather conditions, say every 5,000kms.

Just to give you an idea of who is providing these kind of service in the ME and a rough cost, check the portal www.insureme.com Re life insurance, it is important not to forget than in a one income family, the one who should get life insurance is actually the one who doesn't work. Most employers offer some form of death in service benefits to their employee. On the other hand, should the non working wife (say for argument sake) not be around to look after the kids for eg, the working husband would not be able to carry on working as well as look after the kids. If the housewife has life insurance, it would allow the husband to employ someone to look after the kids while he is still working, thus minimising the financial impact of a death. When I was an adviser I often saw over insured working husbands with totally uninsured wives. The mistake is easily done!

Just a word of caution. Before going all the way to the Oasis School (it has many children with very special needs), I would speak to a few mainstream schools (those mentioned on this thread are a good start) and check whether they coud accomodate your DD. It will mean she has to take an assessment. Alternatively, you could go to K-12 Academy in Knowledge Village. They run a school with very small class sizes (6-8) and the teaching is excellent (qualified teachers with great experience in special needs). My DS has been going there for 4 years. He has made tremendous progress. He gets extra help at school, some free of charge some at a very reasonable cost in house beacuse of his dyslexia and dyscaculia .Good luck with your search.

Just a word of caution to the OP. Do check the qualifications of the IFA you will be working with, especially with some of the companies (non banks) operating in Dubai.Financial advice is strictly regulated in most developed countries, not so in Dubai. edited by fjcruiser on 09/02/2014

I didn't want to say it as so many people use these products, but the fees are extremely high. Financial advisors like to sell these products because they are paid by Zurich and FP. IMO you would do better to go through an online stockbroker (such as Barclays, Hargreave Lansdowne or similar) and invest in equity or bond funds through their 'fund supermarkets'. If you can do this through an ISA, it's tax free. Entry fees are often 0% and annual management fees are discounted. This doesn't suit everyone though as you need to be comfortable choosing which fund or funds to invest in. ISA is only available if you are a UK resident for tax purpose.

Park n Shop is good albeit a bit more expensive. They do have products that you cannot find elsewhere (like the purina cat litter or incense sticks just to name a few). Their meat is good but their fish no so so. Waitrose has better quality fresh food but also at a price. The Waitrose on al Thanya is convenient for parking (better than the DM). Another nice supermarket to visit is the Al Manama in Times Square. It is very clean, not too big, they have many good offers and their fresh fish and meat counter looks good. I have tried the a leg of lamb and it was perfect (taste and price). I haven't tried the fish yet. Fruits and veg are very fresh and very reasonably priced. They also have a customer reward card than PnS and Waitrose don't offer. Happy shopping! edited by fjcruiser on 06/02/2014

Good on you dolleymadison for offering to help. It is obvious to me you know it is always a delicate situation when one deals with abuse, in Dubai or outside. Offering shelter and a listening ear will not get you in trouble. Not everyone can necessarily go straight to a women shelter. Dubai unlike many other countries does have a network which offers protection to women.

If you don't want to loose your capital and still get some growth if the markets perform, you can buy capital guaranteed bonds. I am not sure there are offshore ones available. The drawback obviously is as your capital is guaranteed over the period (5, 7 or 10 years generally), you will be forfeiting a lot of the growth you could potentially have achieved. Also say 10 years from now, it is unlikely the uni fees will go down so you will need to get some growth if your savings is for this purpose.Best way is to talk to an IFA (some companies have been mentioned on this thread). They will assess your risk profile and recommend the best type of investment. Good luck. It is a mine field. edited by fjcruiser on 06/02/2014

Safest way is to use a carrier like Aramex, Fedex or DHL. DHL has a desk at Dubai Mall, LGF opp Waitrose. At least there is a tracking facility you will not have from the Emirates Post.

I suggest you look at this-http://uaelaborlaw.com/ as the police has nothing to do with labor laws. From what you say, it looks that you do not have a contract of employment. At this stage, I would ask the following questions to your employer: 1- why haven't you be paid after a month. Do they not have your bank details ? Say that you are happy to give them again. 2- you should have a contract of employment. When will it be drawn ? If you get vague answers to these questions, alarm bells should be ringing. I would then go to the labor office (different whether you work in a freezone or not) and seek advice. Hopefully they are disorganized but that doesn't sound good to me. Good luck!

The best place to obtain a dog from is a reputable breeder. Dogs have to born in the house, trained, and be socialized. Not to mention the health. You are getting a dog for 12-15 years. There are no reputable breeders in the UAE! Let's put it back into context of the UAE.They are no reputable breeders in the UAE.Elsewhere for sure there are.

Contact the RC and ask them what is the best way to go about it. In the mean time, take pictures, keep all emails and phone call dates and times and what was said. Also you need to deal with the issue, probably pay upfront for the costs (it shows you cared about sorting out the issue in case of a dispute with LL). Then serve him with plenty of notice you are leaving. He will for sure have to fix the structural issues with the car port before re-renting and you will have to go to RC to recover your money. Good luck.

Write to your LL and email him pictures. Not interested ??? It is his house for heaven sake.It is a structural issue so HIS responsability. Obviously in the meantime you will have to deal with the emergency and the inconvenience of not having a car port and potentially a hazard if the house starts crumbling.Good luck.

It looks like you need a new battery. Call the Samsung no 800-7267864. On your battery there will be a number. They can order it for you. edited by fjcruiser on 26/01/2014 But when I disconnect the charger from the laptop and only plug the charger into the wall it is still blowing the trip and all sockets will blow. So this is why I am thinking it must be charger and laptop problems??? Sorry I have misunderstood. When you connect the charger into the socket, where do you connect the other end of the cable to ? Simply plugging a loose charger to a socket will not do anything unless electricity circulates. Hence why I think it is probably the battery as they go bad after 2-3 years. Some time these faulty batteries can explode as they over heat.

Contact K12 Academy : Robyn Martinez on +971-4-440-1212. K-12 is setting up (may be it is now running) a school in AD.Robyn is based in Dubai but she will give you all your information you need. My son is special needs and K12 has done wonders for him. Although it is a US curriculum, this shouldn't put you off. What makes K12 so good is the quality of the teachers, although the curriculum is excellent as well. Good luck. You will need to try hard (especially in AD as there are less schools than Dubai).Don't say too much to the mainstream schools as it will label your child, just be honest. We had a very hard time in Dubai. In the end we went to K12 and don't regret it for a minute. edited by fjcruiser on 26/01/2014

All three are good brands.Make sure the Bosch is made in Germany (some are made in developing countries and are not the same quality). Then it will depend on the max load, whether they are economical for water and electricity consumption.Look at the warranty as well. I bought a Siemens 5 years ago and the reson is I knew them from living in the UK (LG and Samsung were not as popular then). It also had a washing program I liked and the others I checked didn't.

If Etisalat sold you a modem and a contract, they have to make sure it is working properly. Give them a call on 101.They may give you instructions on the phone on how to make the router work (although it should have been set up by them the first time). If it still doesn't work, they will send a technician to have a look at it. It may take 2 or 3 days for you to get a call but they will come. I have to say from experience, their technicians are good and helpful.Make sure you insist on getting a technician to come as customer service sometimes drag their feet. It cost Etisalat money to send someone out. edited by fjcruiser on 10/01/2014

The Etisalat technician came to confirm Etisalat has been tweaking the system for the past 3 days causing major issues for Apple routers. It will last till Sunday/Monday.It means that internet is on then off and then on etc.....No need to do anything from our end. There are hundreds of homes and businesses affected so Etisalat is taking the matter seriously despite saying they do not support Apple hardware. In my street alone, the Etisalat man has been dealing exclusively with this issue and already seen dozens of businesses and homes today! At least it is good to know that we are not being ignored.

Well mine is down again although I suspect some foul play. The Etisalat technician rang me this morning asking if my internet was ok. I said yes after spending hours trying to fix it.In the end I think Etisalat had to send the internet through the box again (as we are paying they have a duty to do this I suppose). At the very moment I was telling the technician it was all ok, the internet mysteriously dropped again. He will be coming this afternoon after all and I will report the findings on the forum.Unfortunately I cannot switch to Du as they don't operate in my area.
