I probably can't give much advice as I'm not from the same culture and how you attain independence in my culture is not said for another. My advice to an Australian 21 year old would be to get a job, move out and stand on your own two feet as how can they see you as an independent adult when they still have to care for you as their child. But that advice is not advice I like nor is it advice I will apply to my daughter. Are you always around your parents? Do you have your own private life? Sorry, not too helpful! I was married with a child by 21 and pretty much did what I wanted to do from 17 so don't have first hand advice. Can you be yourself in your private time and just pacify them by doing the traditional thing when with them? I guess even I had two wardrobes, one for parent events, one for friend events, so it's not unusual to split yourself up for different requirements in life. Like work clothes vs weekend clothes. Think of time with your parents as work clothes, then time away weekend clothes. Hi, AmyAus82, Well I am looking for a job these days and they want me to wear the traditional clothes while going to an interview or when going to the job. In our culture single ladies are not allowed or is not thought to be good ladies if we live alone even if parents are there. So, yes I live with them and dont really have a private space of my own.

Yes!!!! This is my favourite restaurant at the moment. I have now dined there twice and we all thought the food was great. Although, word of warning...the portions are HUGE! So if you're thinking about having a meal and then cheesecake for dessert then you have no chance. Twice we have been so stuffed by the food that we couldn't try the cheesecake, so we have decided that next time we will go for cheesecake and coffee only. We also found that the queuing times in MOE were much more decent than Dubai Mall. We went at Friday lunchtime with 7 of us and only had to wait for a table for 10 minutes. In Dubai Mall we had to wait for 1 hour and 45 minutes. Thanks for the suggestion :) Just to know more is it cost effective? Or I should expect to spend more just to have cheesecakes? Because I also have a family of 7 and I am the only one to pay :D

Three new metro lines are coming up by 2030.. I am glad to hear this but 2030 is a long way to go I just realized I will be in my mid fifties then. What The &!@ !!! Is it just me or does anybody else freak out when they here these not too far away dates and then realize how old they will be then... On another note, I do like the metro and I like using it, and I hope it will expand and be fully integrated in the city life here. I prefer the metro any day over a rude and reckless taxidriver and depending on my destination, I really find it very convenient. Only thing that could be better is the frequency of the buses and maybe a few more bus route Yes I realized the same that whether I would be there in Dubai or not till 2030.. because I dont know where I would be in 2030 :D

I just hope they build plenty of car parking near to the stations so that there can be a proper 'park and ride' system as the feeder bus route at the moment (especially for Dubailand area) is rubbish. I would gladly use the metro more if I could get a bus to a station or park easily (and cheaply) nearby. Yeah hope for the best, they should increase in the areas like Dubai land, International City, Academic City, The Greens etc.

Dont you find it too slow? I Find it moderate. Neither too slow nor too fast. But its good as I really hate traffic jams and paying high fares to the taxi for no use..

Well if it continues to just follow the main roads, it's still no use to me..... Yes Same goes with me, I really hope if there are some good plans. I really want metro to expand inside areas so we can explore more. As I live far away from Jumeirah, Marina, Al Quoz, Mirdiff etc so I really cant get to go there.

I lived in Al Nahda for 2 years and used Nail Blaze, (it's along the same street as Carrefour Express) was always happy with the service and very reasonable prices! Hello Bythesea, Thanks for sharing but was it before the carrefour express or after the carrefour express?

Hi everyone :) I am a newbie here living with parents. Anyone here from Al-Nahda or Qusais ?? I am searching for Salons here near Al Nahda or Qusais which offers Brazalian Waxing..does anyone know about them? I have read past threads about Brazilian waxing which are mostly located in Downtown. Also searching for some good friends around as its all new for me and I feel bored here alone. :) Hi freaking92! Welcome to EW :) Are you new to the forum or to Dubai? Why don't you give us a short intro about yourself? And don't worry about being bored, theres lots of things to do here! Hello Jzaidi, I am new to EW as well as Dubai. But not so new for Dubai because it has been my second home land always because my father works here since long time and we (my mom, me and my bro) recently moved here about 7 months ago. Sorry for replying so late as I dont get to visit expat woman daily :D

I used to live in Al Nahda 2 and was happy with Mayan Salon, opposite the NMC hospital in the Bait al Khair building. Waxing is good and also beautician is wonderful, Lilian. Try there. I still go there just for the salon quite often. Thanks mrsb, I will surely look out for Mayan Salon very soon :)
