Hi All, Has anyone experienced getting a transit visa on arrival at the airport who is also a GCC resident? The person is flying with Fly Dubai and I have spoken to Marhaba but they say that we do not do visas for GCC residents. Thats strange though, if any one has any info regarding this would be very helpful. TIA.

You can get unlocked US and UK phones here in the 'grey' market shops. Plenty about. I always get mine from the stores in Mirdiff City Centre. People buy UK/US phines as they have applications that aren't available on UAE released phones, for example Facetime is not loaded onto UAE release iPhones. Hi FairyDust, Thank you for giving the information. Are you referring the grey market shops in Deira and Bur Dubai? Or we have them in Mirdiff City centre as well?

Sorry for bumping, but how does your coconut oil stay at room temperature in Dubai? My colleague brought me pure coconut oil from India (Tamil Nadu) where they extract fresh daily. Right now in winter months it is solid but during summer it goes back to liquid. Is it normal? Because I have always heard coconut oil stays solid at room temperature.

Relax Ladies, I just said good that its becoming normal in a humorous way! I come from a background where if you roam around in Thongs and bikinis you will immediately get raped! I said its good only for small cuddle and kisses (not even french kiss) because Dubai is a tourist city where people come from around the world, mostly on honeymoons etc. In that way only its is good. I no way agree to completely getting laid in public. And anyway the beach where I was, it was not a public beach. I have not seen these things on public beaches because people know they will be fined/jailed/deported.

Yes I told him the same that there is no such thing as free lancing and whoever is doing it, they are doing it illegally. I dont care about him, I care about my colleagues who can land into trouble for not having a labor card because of him. He gives me the example of people doing things illegally here. Labor department already visited and that time he was not the city and they asked me, I told them we have just started business our documents are under process. I am so ****** off with him, does anyone know what are the penalties? So that I can tell him and he should get some idea. The only solution I can think of convincing him is that employees themselves go to DAFZA and complain or either go and tell the boss directly that if he gives them a work permit only then they can work for him.

Hi there, Welcome to Dubai, I hope you get adjusted here soon and find solutions to your problems. As someone else also said, Al Nahda is not the place for expat, but although I also agree that rents are low here in Al Nahda as compared to the areas like Al Barsha, Tecom, JLT etc. I am also living in Al Nahda from the past 4 years just because the rents are low and I am here with my parents. I think it depends on your income how much you can pay for your rent and whether you are here for your own or you have family back home who needs your support. Consider getting a drivers license and a car to move around, but I would say Public transport is quite efficient here and metro can take you anywhere you want. You can always drop by the nearest metro station and take a taxi. Which area are you working? Consider living near to your work place that would save you your time and energy lost in traffic. You can get good low rentals in Silicon Oasis and International city but that also is a complete residential area with no fun. If you want to move to these two areas consider getting a drivers license because public transport in SO and IC is not so good. If you need a new friend you can always reach me. I am not sure if you can do personal msg here, P.S. Try downloading the RTA Wohjati app on your phone, it will give you information for your nearest bus stop and the bus arrival timings plus you can also plan your journey. Best of luck :)

So after much consideration, I decided to buy a nutri bullet but not from Groupon instead I decided to go for Nutri Bullet Pro which is available at Mumzworld and Souq both, but Mumzworld have it a little discounted and free shipping. When I see the original nutri bullet website it says it comes with a bonus recipe book, but as mentioned on mumzworld its just a pocket nutritionist. I am confused. Has anyone bought the pro version?

It [customer service'> probably does meet the wider market expectations. Remember: westerners are the minority, even nationals are a minority. By serving the Asian population and the general Arabic population, the market is satisfied. The probably hate the formality of customer service in other countries and how opposed to handling different cultures differently the CS tends to be. I agree with AB, the customer service we get in our countries is worst. Therefore being in Dubai is satisfying for us. Although I agree the CS in western countries if of another level.

Uhmm how can i break this down in three sentences? So as the only HR person for this new company i will suggest you do your job grading and salary grading for the various positions you have. And a comparative market research. To arrive at what this new company will be paying in basic salary and in benefits to arrive at a package. For a job contract, i will advice you get a professional to write the company"s employment contract. Remember document is detailed on salary, health insurance, pension, allowances, legal issues etc. And it has to comply with UAE labor laws. May i ask what's your compensation and benefits experience like? Perhaps SHRM & CIPD affiliate materials can help you with this. All the best Thanks Chic, I will look upon your advice. Any idea where can I find these professionals who can help me with the employment contract. ?

Hi Just saw your post. I might not be helpful for you but was wondering if you could help me. My husband is looking for HR job oppurtunities in Dubai. HE is working in UK at the moment in Jacobs Engendering firm. His work experience in HR and Recruitment is almost 5 yrs. He has worked in Dubai for almost 4 years. Please let me know if there are any opportunities in this company. It clicked me when you mentioned that it's a new company and I assumed you will be hiring too. Hi Shzee, Currently its a very small company so we would not need any more HR representatives as of now. But I will let you know if any opportunities arise or if I come across any other similar opportunity somewhere else. I have seen some HR related openings on Linkedin from some leading companies, may be he can give it a try. I would suggest your husband to give a visit here and then search for a job as most of the companies now does not prefer overseas hiring. They want the candidates to be present in the UAE. Best of luck for the job hunting.

Freaking, most free zones now operate all their company & employee business through a 'portal' - if you go along to the DAFZA office they'll be able to tell you more about it and how to sign up to it, you'll then do all of your employment contracts online. You enter the information and when approved, the portal generates the contract in english/arabic for the employee and employer to sign. You firstly need to get access to this portal and then go on one of the training courses to learn to navigate your way around it. The decision on the split between salary/transport etc really needs to be approved by your senior management as this will impact on the company's cost at every end of service payment, the higher the basic salary proportion, the higher the EOSG. DAFZA may be able to tell you what spit the average company does (70/20/10 etc) and you could then base your company on the average. Good luck! HI CP, Thanks for the info. Yes I knew that the free zones does everything online just was not clear with the contract. And glad to know that they have training course also. Yes I guess I have to sit down with the CEO and discuss these things I guess he is not aware of this. But I believe that DAFZA will not give me any information as far as I am not on their visa? I am still on my notice period and my previous visa has not been cancelled yet. Thanks for the info, it helped a lot :)

I met one the symmetry gym trainer at the metro station and while introducing each other he was introducing him as he works in the Dubai's most expensive gym as a trainer and I was wondering then why he is using the metro lol. I wonder if the most expensive gym pays their trainers well. With this kind of rude behavior who would like to go to them. I love my Gold's gym not one of the best but the trainers are very friendly and understanding.

Freaking92, your post about taking HR duties in the HR Manager's absence was a little confusing, because you said you were "focusing on the HR side of your career." I don't know how long you have lived and worked in Dubai, but it is true here, and elsewhere: It is [b'>much[/b'> easier to find a job while you are employed. I sympathize with you, in that during my previous position, my employer had a much different definition for the clause in my work contracted which stated I will do "any reasonable task" than I did. My workload was doubled within 3 months of starting there, and I was asked to do things way outside my realm and pay grade. It was really unfair. In light of that, I gained good experience which broadened my skills and turned out to be a positive. Who knows if they are shifting you to a different position because you are already sponsored by them, and it is easier than going about the process of hiring a new person when they already like and trust you. Maybe they are just being cheap. But the way you are describing them as breaking their own policies and your claims of being a victim-- you won't find a lot of sympathy on a forum where many women and their spouses are desperately seeking work while your claims seem rather petty. edited by Beebers on 08/10/2014 Hi Beebers, See I know it happens in Dubai, but the problem is this position was not required. The CEO asked the manager of the other company to give training once and he was not at all interested because they dont need. There is already a sales co-ordinator. And they told me clearly that it is not a required position but we are sending you there as we dont have any choice. We have to keep both the MD and Chairman happy. Right now also there is no response on trainings or anything. And I know I was shortlisting candidates and posted ads for vacancy. There was no such vacancy. They are nice with me because I am nice with them. I did not say anything when they raised this issues, I quitley listened to them and understood their problem and the situation, but they talk to me as if they did a favor to me by giving me a job, instead I or my relative never asked them to give me a job. I attended one training also its lot about technical things which do not amuse me. And dont feel happy and satisfied by doing something I dont love. So its a waste if I do such thing. I may be wrong for you people, but its just I am in the admin field since long, and when its time I can get a position of HR Executive or something better, why should I go to coordination?

You make it sound like you are a victim, a puppet who was played with, but according to what you said, that company is actually quite nice to you. A sales coordination position has much more perspective in the future than an admin assistant role. Nevertheless, you could have refused it outright. Now you made them believe that you accepted it, and they count on you for resource planning as sales coordinator. I see absolutely no case for compensation, unless the company seeks compensation from you for their wasted costs, such as visa fees and training efforts for a new field. (No worries, labour law does not allow them to deduct these, but to be honest, it is loss for them) Hi Dentro, May be you right but if your were in my shoes, you would also say that I am a victim. I have been completely used. This issue was raised 5 months back, and they shifted me now. Why? Because my HR was on leave and I was handling everything single handedly. Why they did not shifted me because they had a requirement. Now when she is back to I am not needed. Although it was an Admin Assistant designation, I was doing more of HR and I was acting as a PA also. Sales co-ordination might be good, but its not for me. Specially if its on the technical side and its all about what I wish to do. I was focusing on the HR side of my career. This sudden change is not acceptable. Well... This again proves that your company is nice to people. They let the original hr person to took her job back after her leave. How would you feel if you had a job you liked, and went on long leave, and being told on your planned return "sorry, your substitute is actually pretty good in this job, we will just keep her, goodbye". To be honest, no offense, but I do not find your thinking to be professionally matured enough to be in hr. It may be useful if you try to understand the situation from the aspect of the company and other employees, not only from your angle. OMG Dentro!!! When did I say that I wanted to replace the HR? Please dont go too much negative, and you are not supposed to judge people here. She is the HR manager and I was working under her as an assistant and she is the biggest support I had all the time. First try to understand what I am trying to say, through out I have been in the HR/Admin field why would I go to co-ordination? If you cant give any advice then please stop being negative.

I had another issue with holiday factory. They post offers on their website like Holiday to Maldives in AED 999 and they did the most stupid thing that the application fields to book the offer will open after 2 hours. And once the 2 hours are over, you fill in your details click on "Book" and it keeps on loading. Then a pop up will come and say Sorry there were limited seats and all have been filled up. This was the most stupidest thing I have ever seen.

Hi chocochic, yes its the same. Which course did you do? Was it an online course? I want to start a Higher National Diploma so that I can transfer my credits for Bachelors but I am doubtful.
