I believe IELTS is more convenient than TOEFL. For example if you spell colour/color IELTS will accept both but if you use colour in TOEFL they will not accept. Same goes for many other words. And most of the Unis here accept both IELTS and TOEFL.

MOHESR is the Ministry that covers the entire UAE. Any degree attested by MOHESR should be accepted by KHDA. KHDA attested doesn't mean MOHESR attested. It's a bit annoying but MOHESR is as far as I know the main body. MOHESR is not easy when it comes to attestation. They accept BA's, MA's and PhD's. If you apply for a local, in house uni and they accept you with your HND (Which I believe is a UK system), your degree should be accepted as they have allowed you in the program in the first place. However, before starting the HND course, find out if it gets you into a uni here. For example, they offer GED here but unis don't accept them as entry into their degree courses so make sure the HND vocational will be accepted in unis here. If you find a job that requires your degrees to be attested you do want MOHESR to recognize it. What vocation are you planning to study? My plan is to get a HND in business which is accepted by British Universities here like Middlesex or Heriot Watt. I know MOHESR will not attest HND because its a diploma, but if I go to MS or HW for my BA or BS will they still attest my degree as they are also not accredited by MOHESR. Yesterday I spoke to CEE, who are offering HND by Edexcel, they said that your HND certificate will be attested by UK and Ministry of Foreign Affairs here. There is also one more institute National Institute of Vocational Education (NIVE) which is itself an institute by KHDA. They offer the same courses accredited to Edexcel, but being an govt institute I am not sure about this. I spoke to them also and they said your HND certificate will be attested by UK and KHDA, but their timings are not convenient for me. But I know so many people studying in MS, HW and Manipal, I wonder how they manage to get employment here. The reason I am going for this HND shortcut to degree program is that its easy on my pocket. Payment plans are easy. Also I heard something which I dont know is true or not, but someone said here the US based degrees are considered to have more value than UK degrees. edited by freaking92 on 16/04/2014

Is there such a thing anymore? What on earth would it teach? "Get me coffee from Starbucks?" There is a lot to learn in it, Secretary is not all about bringing coffes, it relates to Administration also. I have done one but it was a short one, I am looking into learning more. I would brush up on Excel, PP and Pivot Tables A lot of my clients expect this to be spot on and it is amazing the amount of candidates who say there are advanced level and when testes fail Yes agreed Sarahlou, MS Office is always included in these courses. I was basically not satisfied with the one I had before, would appreciate more advice on which areas to brush up more.

Hi All, Can anyone recommend me some good websites for online secretarial courses, I googled and found many things but I am afraid that it could be fake, like happened a few days ago with "uaeonlineuniversities". If not online then anything happening here in Dubai will also appreciate. TIA :)

Don't expect to get anything done. These websites are mostly shams, and all offer the same universities that often are not even accredited. Why do you think they behave that way? All they do is call you at inconvenient timings, or just regularly spam you. I looked at the website, most unis on there are not accredited in the UAE. If you want to study online, you need to go through the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in Abu Dhabi. They have a list of accredited online degrees, contact the universities directly. Much easier, and most of them have good enrollment teams. This is the link to the list: http://www.mohesr.gov.ae/En/E-Services/Pages/Electronic_Recommended_Institute.aspx And make sure that before you start your degree, you apply for approval at the MOHESR, though this form: https://services.mohesr.gov.ae/SharePointEnqApp/InquireProgram.aspx?DegreeFilter=1%2c2%2c3%2c4%2c5&Lang=en-US If you don't most likely your degree will not be attested. I have been in touch with MOHESR, who hav given me a lot of info. They don't accept any other online degree apart from what is on their list. Good luck! Thanks Maroosh for the useful info. They are definitely spam, I emailed British Council that this site shows that they are accredited to British Council. Got a reply from them and they said that no we have not accredit any website or university as such. Thanks once again Maroosh :)

I went online and registered but no where did they ask for my nationality??? Just call them back and ask to talk to someone in charge Did you chat with any representative or just filled out to register? I had a online chat with their representative and he said he needs to make my profile before giving me the details so along with my other details my nationality was also asked.

Hey Ginnee, a big big hug to you for this awesome recipe. I made it on Tuesday and Oh boy what a success it was. Everyone loved every bit of it, specially the flavor of rose water, I just loved it. Didnt get to update earlier as I got busy with Eid preparations and shopping, but no doubt this was the Award winning recipe of Ramadan 2013, as someone else also said. All the leftovers was finished by me, as I craved it badly late night :D A big Thank You for sharing the recipe. And Eid Mubarak :)

Hi Ginnee, so finally I am going to try out your recipe tomorrow, me and my family has never tried Umm Ali before, want them to introduce to something new. Just to make sure that no mistakes happen, as I am a beginner with cooking, do I have to use the broiler or the bottom heating element? ( I have a gas oven). Sorry for the dumb question, I am a lil bit confused :/, dont know much about the oven. Just know how to bake cakes lol.

The way we look at fasting and how we "fear" it shows how much of our time is spent on eating, drinking, thinking of food, preparation of food. I graze like a cow most of the time, every second I get peckish I satisfy that need. And now I am forced to focus on my soul rather than my stomach. And you know what.. That moment you take the first sip of water.. There is nothing like it, and it makes you feel soooo grateful for what you have. Indeed :) I feel fasting heals my soul, it feels so relaxing when you are not bothered about food.

It is not just you. I have been following and reading this forum on a regular basis. I followed up your previous threat. Unfortunately I notice that the EW members –(and always the same ones- same people but different names) have nothing to do but attacking. It is easy for them to be behind a screen and aggressing whoever does not share their opinion. In the beginning It was very frustrating but I find it now very amusing. I was not wrong when once I said that it sounds like a soap opera. I totally agree with you. Some say just anything without considering. And then there are also some spammers who would post anything, and when someone will post something which is actually happening with them, then it would be considered a spam also, which happened with me last time. But anyways now I have learned not to post any personal problems here. :) Perhaps they're still "stuck" in their life? You should not have to worry about them :) You shall not treat the people with arrogance, and walk not on earth haughtily; for God does not love anyone who acts proudly and boastfully. (A verse from the Quran) "Generally, you can be humble only if you feel really good about yourself—and you want to help those around you feel really good about themselves, too. When we see people acting in an abusive, arrogant, or demeaning manner toward others, their behavior almost always is a symptom of their lack of self-esteem. They need to put someone else down to feel good about themselves." Clayton Christensen. :) Thumbs up to this :)

Excuse my ignorance, but if it is not Iftar at 9.00 pm, what would it be, please? Is there another gathering/meal it might be? Isn't the suhoor the early morning meal before sunrise and beginning the day's fasting? There isn't anything at 9PM. It's just someone having a gathering. At 9PM people are about to pray the Isha prayer and taraweeh after it. So "Ramadan wise" there is no dinner time. At that time I just had my iftar 1,5 hour ago. I have my suhoor around 3.30-3.45, don't get why the offer suhoor parties at 9! edited by Marroosh on 21/07/2013 My iftaar is mostly just water, dates and a glass of milk. Then we have our dinner till 8 pm :)

I think Iftar is when fast is broken so after the 7.15pm (ish) prayer and from research is a light meal. I assume Suhoor is the meal that starts at 9pm or later which is a bigger meal although from research it's is also the meal before sunrise. I could be completely wrong but have just spent the evening trying to learn as much as possible as that is what I have gleaned. Please do correct me anyone if I am wrong! Yes, Sorry my mistake I called it Iftaar. At 9 pm it would be a dinner which is likely to have after Iftar. You are right, Suhoor is the meal before sunrise but 9 pm is too early to have suhoor. It is likely to be before sunrise between 2 to 4 am.

I know its difficult for the ones which are not used to it but I must say you should try it. And most of the time we are in Air conditioned room, I feel always pity for those labours working out in this heat and fasting also, may Allah give them strength. If some you are willing to try I have some handy tips which always works for me; 1. Do have your Suhoor 2. Drink lots of water 3. Have a bowl of yogurt, it doesnt make you feel thirsty. 4. Have light meal at suhoor.

It is called Iftaar which is the breaking of the fast. Wear something modest cover shoulders and knees, maybe a headscarf if you want to feel the Arabic tradition. As you are a non muslim, just follow what other people do there, they would also pray their prayers there, if you want you can too. Considering it would be a local family, there will be a separate ladies section, so you be with the ladies. Hope this helps. Best of luck!

Hi freaking92, glad to hear that your cake was a success! I make strawberry cake for various family birthdays. Apricot's Strawberry Cake 1. Make strawberry concentrate: defrost 250-300 g packet frozen strawberries in a sieve over a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave the liquid for 5 min at 70% power, (stop halfway and check, stir) until reduced. Combine thawed fruit, 1-2 tsp lemon juice and reduced liquid in blender and process until smooth, adding more lemon juice to taste if required. 2. Mix together: 1 packet white cake mix, 1 packet cherry gelatin, 4 T plain flour, 1 cup veg oil, 1/2 c sugar, 1/2 c full fat milk, 4 large eggs, half of the strawberry concentrate. Scrape down bowl, increase mixer speed to medium (3 on Kenwood stand mixer) and beat for 2 min. 3. Divide batter among 3 9-in pans, or 4 8-in pans or 1 sheet pan plus 1 8-or 9-in round cake pan, greased, floured and lined. Bake at 180 C for 30-35 min. Cool on wire racks completely while preparing frosting. Frosting: 4 oz butter (can use 2 oz salted and 2 oz unsalted to balance the sugar), softened to room temp, 500 g icing sugar sifted, 1/4-1/2 cup strawberry concentrate. 1. Place butter in mixing bowl, beat at low speed until fluffy. Add about 1/3 to 1/2 the icing sugar and 2-3 T strawberry concentrate. Keep stopping and adding just enough of the sugar and strawberry concentrate until desired sweetness and texture is obtained. Then continue to beat the icing until it is fluffy and aerated. Thanks for the idea :) will surely try it next time.

I made the cake and it was a super hit, everyone loved it. Baked B.C. Strawberry cake, when it was still warm I poked holes in it with the straw and poured strawberry puree made with fresh strawberries, refrigerated for 2-3 hours. As I had to take it to the office, I opted for cream cheese frosting instead of whipped cream topping due to the hot & humid climate. Very much successful, highly recommended. Here's the link to the recipe. [url=http://allrecipes.com/recipe/strawberry-refrigerator-cake/'>link[/url'> Thanks all ladies for the replies :) edited by freaking92 on 03/07/2013

Always sieve the icing sugar to remove any hard bits and mix with an electric hand mixer if you have one. Should then be totally smooth and no grainy taste. I do sift it dear but something goes wrong. This time I will give whipped cream a chance may be ill add some gelatin or meringue powder in it.

You can gift traditional Arab fragrance which is known as "Attar" or "Ittar" or Oudh so many available. Also you can buy Bukhoor which are woodchips soaked in fragrant oils (available in different fragrances) and along with that you can buy mabkhara (a traditional incense burner) in which bukhoor is burnt, comes in very beautiful designs some made of crystal also. The the good thing is all you can buy at very cheap prices.

So long as it's thick enough to stay inside the cake and not ooze out, either of those should be OK. It's just that I find fresh double cream whips up to be really thick and holds, although be careful not to over whip if you use it. I'm sure your cake will be delicious. Thanks amelia :) I am actually doing it for a colleague and have to take the cake to the office, hope it doesnt melt :D

Heavy cream is 'double cream' and I have seen fresh ones in Spinney's and Choithram's. Elmlea also make a double cream but this is a long life one. Haven't tried a strawberry flavoured sponge as I would use a plain Victoria. In the middle of the cake I like to put strawberry jam, cream and sliced strawberries. More cream on top and strawberries to decorate. edited by amelia on 29/06/2013 Emm.. I neither have choithrams or spinneys near by, what can I use instead of heavy cream? A thickened cream or whipping? All I have at hand is Puck or Al marai

Hi OP. I was once in a long distance relationship with my boyfriend of 5 years. Things got complicated when I found our relationship boring and stuck in the same place. Unlike you I never let myself go out and socialize. I locked myself in my apartment to avoid temptations and the like. We made plans for our future, like getting married, where to live, etc. I am working now by the way and he's back home taking his Masters degree. Before I came here we both decided he will follow me but plans changed after sometime and he decided that he'll stay in our home country instead of coming here. For two years we have constant communication through skype but we never really talk. I found out he kept some things from me and he's kind of lying to me sometimes. I, too, kept some things from him which I never did in the past when we're together physically. We are too careful of hurting each other that we tend to keep things to avoid arguments/conflicts that will add stress to the distance. I finally realized the relationship isn't worth fighting for anymore when I no longer feel that I am happy with the situation. I thought about it for a month. He gave me a promise ring which makes me think twice before breaking up with him. He is my "the one". But it doesn't seem right anymore. I am not happy and the relationship feels like a burden to me. Until one day I finally told him and I feel free and alive again. It's like a heavy weight has been lifted off my shoulders. That's when I knew I did the right thing. Yes, 5 years is still 5 years but apparently our relationship is just history being written. OP, just follow your heart. Do whatever that makes you happy. Nothing is worth it if you aren't happy. But break it off first before you gone astray from your relationship with your boyfriend. That way you won't feel guilty by being unfaithful. Make it an amicable break up as possible. One more thing, respect yourself enough to walk away from anything that no longer serves you, grows you or makes you happy. :-) Thank you so much Dear, I think I need time to think about him as my boyfriend has done alot to me he was always there for me in all the good and bad. I guess I am a bit distracted I have to think now properly.
