I don't know why but when I read the opening post I kept on thinking of the thread M In Trouble. There is just something about the posts that make them come across to me as if they've been written by the same person although the English is different. And the user names, both have numbers at the end. I'm finding it all a but suspicious. Granted Expatwoman could be becoming a place where women from certain parts of the world come for a certain kind of advice but its just not sitting right with me. There has been a recent stream of such posts over the last few months....amazing how such controlled persons have unlimited access to the internet?? Shame. edited by Lolacat on 09/06/2013 Dear I am not a controlled person. I have full freedom of my own to do what I want. But anyways those scam posts makes people more suspicious and when there is not a fake post is also understood as fake.

You're still young, another post said you are a recent high school 'pass out'. What is your plan with boyfriend in home country? I mean, long distance only works if you have a common goal youre working towards (ie working to get set up to get married). If you are not doing this distance thing with marriage in mind then why do it? DR, I thought the same. Not so recent 2 years to pass out. Yes we are planning marriage and everything but then there comes some confusions also :/

Long distance can make one drift apart. You'll feel confused and unsure what to do. You'll need to evaluate your previous relationship for its worth. You'll also need to consider whether you are the type of person who can tolerate a long-distance relationship, whether there's a chance you will be joining your boyfriend soon - like if you're going to go back or he's relocating to your area, whether you're really interested in your new friend or is it just because you're away from your boyfriend, etc. If you'll be joining your old boyfriend soon, then breaking off with him might not be such a good idea. It's best not to take a drastic step without deep thought. You might want to keep a distance from your new fried for a while so that you can think the problem through without any emotions. Yeah I was also thinking the same, as I have to go back home after 2-3 months, but I cannot also afford to loose my new friend.

Near to my building I have a gym separate in a building it was charging Aed 200 per month, but I didnt like that place because it was in a very dark area and it might not be safe. Have you tried Waitrose? They stock a large selection of different types of bread. There are 3 locations which could mean one is near enough - Dubai Mall, Al Thanya St (Umm Suqeim) and Dubai Marina Mall. hmm..well I think I will have to get there to get these..will search in my area as well. I actually live near Dubai-Sharjah border so its a bit harder for me. Does Spinneys have them?

Park'n'Shop supermarket in the small Al Safa shopping centre on Al Wasl Rd has a great baker. They make a range of brown breads including Spelt bread for those who are intolerant to gluten. I live at the other end of Dubai :D getting to Al Wasl Road weekly would be tough for me..

Hi all, Can anyone tell me where can I get Visa prepaid card here? Go to NBAD and ask them for the Blue al-haslah card. I have that card and I would definitely recommend it. It works everywhere ( coz of visa) and there are no charges to reload or withdraw money through ATM and no other charges for inactivity. The only charges that I pay/paid was 7 dhs for getting the card and the currency conversion charge for shopping at amazon. Currency conversion charge was about 4 or 5% so I pay through Paypal now. To get this card do you have to have a account with NBAD ? If not then I will buy this because as the other poster said MAfpreppaid card charges for inactivity also and other things. So I think its better.

Hi all, Can anyone tell me where can I get Visa prepaid card here? Hi, check www.maffinanceprepaid.com. The LOADnSHOP works like a normal debit card, for payments (in shops, online or connected to PayPal account) and ATM withdrawals. Available at any ENOC, EPPCO, Zoom, Al Fardan, Al Ghurair, and Micro and can be loaded easily at any ENOC, EPPCO, Zoom, Al Fardan, Al Ghurair, Micro and Carrefour, balance available instantly when I loaded in C4. PS I know I said I will never post here, but as I still read the forum it is a pity not to lend a helping hand. Thank you so much Simoralu44, thats so nice of you to help others. Thanks again for helping TC :)

You would need to set up a proper export license and speak to the product distributors, altho I'm not sure why you would want to buy from here - surely you should have them shipped from the US where most of hte major brands are based and sent directly to your cousin. Like someone else has said, what you're doing is blackmarket (if unlicensed) or grey market (if licensed) I dont know why you guys are referring to black or grey market. It is just like I am shopping for myself. The only concern to start this thread was to know that from where I can get cheap, if online is cheaper then we will do online, but my cousin wanted to save her shipping costs. So now we will decide what to do after listening to you all I thinks its not a good idea.

As someone who works in luxury goods, I can tell you that any brand worth their salt is extremely careful with their brand image, including aspects like distribution and positioning. Meaning that they will only want to sell in high-end retailers (e.g. Sephora, Paris Gallery, department stores) to maintain their exclusivity. If your cousin really wants to sell branded products from home, buying in the malls in Dubai is not the best idea as Dubai is very expensive - she'd be better buying online. But the thing is If I buy for her and send it to her with her father/husband who visits frequently, will save our shipping costs? Or it will be the same? What do you think? And do they have the same prices everywhere in all the stores? Or do they differ? You are describing what is called "grey market" and I am not sure what the legal implications are here. You need a contract with the manufacturer of the goods to set up a distributorship. As celticcavegirl noted, most manufacturers want to protect their brand image. We will be doing it on a smaller scale, like the only products which customers in Africa want them I will buy and send her.

I'm confused...are both the OP and her cousin in Dubai ?? I am confused too and why would you buy it in a mall and sell it here? The only reason Dubai would be a cheaper option to purchase it would be if you lived in Singapore or Australia as i believe makeup etc is more expensive than here Not selling them here.. these will be going to Africa as these are not easily available there or if available very expensive.

Can you sell items from home? I thought only Emirati people can do this for legal reasons( I may be wrong) I wouldn't and do not buy any branded makeup here as it is so much more expensive than the UK and US and we can all get it online here? I am going to send these products to Africa to my cousin.. her dad comes over every 2 months so I will be sending it with him. Can you recommend some online stores?

Sarahlou123 is right - it is illegal to sell items from your home. You need a trade licence to retail in Dubai, plus a customs account to pay import duties and an online store or retail unit, plus a business address . Your cousin needs to think carefully before trading illegally, she could face a pretty hefty penalty... Dear we are not selling it in Dubai :) I am going to send these products to Africa.

Are you thinking of the body media fit or Ki-fit which is the UK equivalent? It's what they use on biggest loser I think. It isn't calculated to a formula but detects movement and heat and can record the amount of sleep you have. To get best use of it you need to buy a subscription to download and manage the data although some of the newer ones can connect via i-phone. I bought mine from amazon and paid for an annual subscription online. I have had a ki-fit for three years and I find it fairly accurate. For gym sessions, I also wear a heart rate monitor. There are some exercises it isn't so accurate with e.g. cycling or spinning so adjustments need to be made on where you position it on your arm. I record my calories with www myfitnesspal on line and you can link with this. So if I have been to the gym or been more active than normal, it automatically adjusts your calorie requirement to maintain the deficit you have set between calories used up and calories taken in through food. I like it and along with my fitness pal it gives me loads of data - I particularly like the pie chart of my macros so I can check my carb/fat/protein percentages and set it to where I lose weight (i.e. fat) more readily. Oh well.. if that is the case I would then purchase it online then. Thanks for the info.. :) Also when do you go for a walk in summers? I find it hard to manage in summers because of the Sun I go in the evening after sun set, but then I have my dinner late which I also dont want to..

Hi Hasina, I live in Al Qusais its more of a Residential area, lots of schools and supermarkets near by. But no malls or any fun activities here. I live in a 2 bedroom hall apartment and its 40,000 with no gym and swimming pool facility. If you go with gym and swimming pool facility it would be definately 50+ depending on how many bedrooms. I have no idea about villas.

Hello Ladies, First to know my problem you all need to know my background, I am basically from Pakistan, Muslim, shifted here recently, living with parents. My problem is that I am a kind of disappointed from my parents because whatever I say whatever I do, all they do is discourage me or under estimate me. For example, I like to dress western because I feel they are far more comfortable in jeans and tees or shirts than in the typical shalwar kameez etc. But my parents are kind of not open minded and I really feel depressed these days. I dont know what to do, I am not satisfied with my life. I want my parents to know that its my life and they need to understand that I should pursue it my way. By the way I am 21, just to make clear to you all that I am not a little girl who needs to be guided. Please help me out. I am really worried. Take care :) Hi Freaking92 I can totally understand where you are coming from, I am 29 year old pakistani girl who up until i got married last year and moved to Dubai lived with her parents in the UK. I also had to deal with some of the issues that you are dealing with but unlike you I started working when i was 16 and did so up until the week before i got married and despite this my parents still had the final say abbout what i could and couldn't wear, when i had to be home etc. The only difference was that thankfully my dad believed in educating his daughters (which was a still taboo in the area we lived) and my father supported my decision to work and he understood the need for western clothing, although i still wore my headscarf and made sure that i was dressed modestly. Have you tried speaking to your parents? Wheather we like it or not the way we behave and dress reflects back on our parents and in our culture you are your fathers responsibility until you get married and then you become your husbands responsibility (we might not like it or agree with it but thats the way it is). All i would say is don'tt be too eager to get away from your parents, because believe me you will miss them especially if you don't part on good terms. If you want a job then by all means I I think you should look for a job and as you say your not a little girl anymore so why should your parents discourgement stop you, you should look on it as a challenge. I would also suggest that you talk to your parents and try and come up with a compromise that will satisfy you both regarding your dress, this way you will both be happy. (Maybe you could wear english when out of the house and traditional in the house as me and my sisters do). Also do you have any friends to socialise with? Sometimes its just nice to get out of the house for a bit. I hope I was able to help. If you want any other help or just want to escape for a bit then just send me a message. Hi Sandstarqueen, Thanks for your kind advice and sharing your experience. It was very helpful. :) I have tried talking to them but may be I give up quickly I will try it again. Even my father is agreed upon the fact that I want to work and also he does not have any issues with my dressing, its all my mother's thinking and my father just support her and does not say anything in favor for me. But I will try and talk again. And it is obvious that I will dress modestly. And no I dont have friends here, looking forward to make some good friends. Take care :)

You said you recently moved here with your family. Maybe you should give your parents some time to adjust to a new life style and different impressions. At the same time, as long as you are under your parent's roof, they have the final say. Maybe try to find a middle ground, don't try to go from traditional Pakistani dress to totally western, of course your parents will resist. Well Dubai is not new to us, my father is here since 22 years and we were back home taking care of grand parents. But in past 2 years they both expired so we are here. And yes I know they have the final say, but obviously I am not going to totally western like mini skirts or what. I just want to dress properly when I get a job which is pant, shirt or a coat if required. Even if casual I wear proper tees and tops with jeans and trousers. So I dont find anything bad in this. I wish they could understand.

Could not agree more with amyaus82 on being treated as a child if you behave like one. That could be the key to your story. Age is not everything. Additionally, it may help reminding your parents that you have chances for better job/ higher pay if you show more openness to a multicultural environment and less adherence to traditions that are foreign to the country, the employer, the colleagues. However I am afraid that if you are 21 only you have not completed higher level education, meaning you may not have high chances to a job that could provide your own living. Maybe you wanna focus on getting qualified first, and postpone your dreams by a year or two. Hi Dentro, Exactly my point because it is a multicultural environment I want to dress properly so that I would not be judged upon my dressing and seriously handling all those dupattas is so difficult!! Well, I really want to join university but my father can not afford it. Higher education is too expensive here. I was just thinking if I can work and study also. But dont know how it all will be done. Do I have to get a loan or something? However I have recently got training certificate in Office Administration so looking forward to jobs related to this field. And Thanks for the advice :)

Freaking92, I know exactly what you say, I had been in your shoes and know how it feels. All I can tell you is getting a good and well paying job is all what you need, keep looking for a job that fit with your qualifications, and save money as much as you can, as life is not life when you are treated this way.....I was 24 years old when I managed to get the heck out of my family home, only because I was shifting to Dubai, believe it or not, getting a job far away from your family - not in the same country I mean - as I was working since I was 19, and nothing changed, only things changed when I managed to get me a job in another country.... I have no wise words to give you, but I do understand the old fashion family that will just squash all you hopes and your dreams, and if I stayed more in my family house, I would be a shell of me ...as this was killing my soul slowly.... Good Luck and take care. Hi, Thanks for the advice this is what I am thinking of. If not getting a job in another country but get a job atleast so I can do on my own and would not have to ask for things. Seriously this is killing my soul too..

Not sure what the OP is expecting here. You say you " do not need guidance"...... Do you wanna hear "listen to your parents, wear shalwar kamez and put stinky oil to your hair"? Or do you wanna hear "follow westerner mass culture, nothing else can be better"? Teenager issues ( sorry, early 20 issues) like this always existed, even before the birth of Internet and EW, and we have all solved our own issues and had our own battles with our parents. My issue is how to let my parents know what I want. Because whenever I say something they always argue and I dont want to argue with them and say harsh things because after all they are parents, and just end up crying in the bathroom lol.
