Hi ladies we are moving to Raha Beach due to husbands job after spending 2.5 years in Dubai. Not looking forwards to leaving all our friends behind, is anyone else in the same boat? We have a 5 month old son and I would like to put him into nursery at 12 months so that I can start working again. I have seen that most nurseries take kids from 18 months, do any of you know of a nursery out there who take from 12 months? Also if you are in the same situation and want to meet up once out there get in touch :-) Hi, Live in Al Muneera, Al raha beach. Join the Al muneera social club, lots of play groups and classes taking place. We are even starting cooking classes. Children's play group is only 15dhs each session and the kids get to do arts and crafts as well, as play with all the toys. edited by FriendlyZ on 01/04/2013

Thanks for all the good advice, I do have kids and they loved the beach when we visited. There is a strange smell in some of the apartments that we visited. May still have to go for Rihaan as we are running out of time and need to move by end of the month.

Hi Jackie, I have already been to one session with AD mums and the kids loved playing around with other kids. Haven't been to another session yet, but hope to go on Monday. I am also looking at Al Muneera and Al Zeina areas. Already viewed and liked an apartment in Al Muneera but it was gone before we decided to put in an offer. Thanks again for your advice. Z

Hi Friendly Z, have you looked up Abu Dhabi Mums, depending on your kids ages, there are lots of different activities and you will meet up with other mums in the same boat. Regarding accommodation near Brighton College, are you looking at the Khalifa Park area (also known as Maqtaa) ? There are some nice villas there, what do you need to know? Are you looking at other areas too? as before happy to help out, the shoe has been on the other foot so to speak and I was lucky to meet great friends who showed me the ropes., happy dot dhabi at g m a i l dot com

Hi Busybee2, You really know your stuff, think you should do the tours that companies arrange for potential families thinking of working and staying in Abu Dhabi. I thought the area near Brighton College was Al Maqtaa, hope to view the villas either Friday/Saturday. I think coffee morning is a great idea, just at a little disadvantage, as I do not drive here, forgot my licence in UK. Don't mind getting a cab, just terrified about my 2 year old not allowing me to strap her in. How do you find driving around here, get lost often? My Husband can never find his way round in central AD and thats with a Sat Nav. Thanks for your great advice, really appreciate it. Z

Hi, I feel the same too, quite isolated here and need to entertain two young kids at the same time. Do wish I could meet up with similar people, might make it easier to live here. Wanted to go back after my first week! Still here and it's been just over two weeks now. Hope to find a property soon. If anyone can advice on the new property development near Brighton College, would appreciate it. It's in Khalifa area.

That's ok, it is very confusing I know. BIS and BSAK are separate schools, BSAK has higher fees and is more central AD and BIS is near Abu Dhabi University, not far from Mohd. Bin Zayed City. We are still looking for a place to sty, may go for Raha Beach apartment, not too keen on villas. I noticed Brighton College, near Park Rotana, where we are staying and looks really good, haven't had a visit, there is nice accommodation being built across the road to it but only 2 bed villas available right now.

Hi, My daughter is attending FS2, to be honest it is the only school we visited before making a decision to move to AD. The reason we chose it, was mainly because my daughter was already in a private education and this school seemed very similar to the UK one just warmer climate. Also was reassured when I spoke to teachers etc, as I am keen that she kept at the pace she is used to, which is 1 year ahead of state schools. So far she is very happy there, small class size, think she has 10 in her class, which is what she is used to. The teacher is great, listened to all my concerns, informed me that my daughter has written her name, done lovely drawings and they have also done number work. The most funny thing so far, my daughter said, Mummy I want to learn Spanish and said a few words, but she hadn't realised it was Arabic! It's only her second week, no complaints so far. Also they give you a communication book, I have used it to communicate with teacher, as my Husband drops her off. Always get a reply right away, also provided with the teachers email address that you can use. Hope this helps, just make sure you are comfortable with the School. The original issues they had with the School, I was informed have been overcome, they 'weeded out' bad teaching staff apparently.

Hi, Yes I can help, The British International School has places and have currently opened a new class. My daughter will be attending starting from tomorrow in FS2. Do give them a call and reserve your places. Which area are you moving in to? We are looking at Al Raha beach apartments, not quite sure what to go for. Hope the info is useful, I will ask tomorrow for you when I go for her settling in visit. Zaheeda
