Thanks a lot, georgiapeach. Your input is invaluable, I think we will be looking into the other buildings in MC as well now. I looked only these two because of the huge spaces. Thanks again

Hi! Would appreciate feedback from motor city residents. We are looking to move and checked out an apartment in Foxhill 8. We love the apartment itself, in terms of terrace and room sizes. However, the building itself looks run down. Entrance to the buildings are also not very great, just a security table. How is maintenence? Are the terrace apartments secure enough? And community wise is how is the living? Is it a good nationality mix? I have a 7 yr old daughter who studies at DIA, so a feedback on the school run time would help. I did a search and found only old threads, so would love an update. Many thanks. Bumping., pls anyone?

VFS at wafi mall issue visit visa for KSA. Have a check online on the documents needed. They do not have a helpline no., so maybe an initial visit to inquire will be helpful. The staff are efficient and knowledgeable. It will be an easy process for you.

Hi My little girl loves cheese but I get wary about all these unhealthy processed cheese stories... I see certain cheese labeled as natural cheese on the same shelves...are they a healthy alternative? Tried to get information but not very encouraging.. Please guide me on which is a good healthy cheese for children.. Thanks

Don't worry there are enough Indian moms on here who are more than willing to help. Depends on whether you are interested in ICSE or CBSE., here is a list - (bear in mind this list is not complete) ICSE - JSS international GEMS Modern Academy Ambassador Kindergarten CBSE - Indian High School JSS Spring dales GEMS Millennium Rajgiri You should Google the school website and try and look for reviews online. Choose a school keeping in mind location and proximity to where you stay. Hope this helps.

Depending on where you reside, a local indian sweet shop will home deliver. I have no experience of online delivery websites for sweets. Alternatively, try zomato.com. Hope this helps.

I have to agree, it was a great crowd. For me, Clapton is the ULTIMATE, so it was a dream come true kind of an event. He did do just the one encore.. No complaints here...

Zebra Crossing on SZR. Its behind the noor islamic bank metro station. I have attended children's birthday parties there and they have a great looking spa theme room for girls parties. Google them, I am sure its exactly what you are looking for.

Well, abt 6 months ago the touch buttons for temp settings stopped working. No lights at all, just sound. The on/off switch was ok, so I managed with that. i was told (by bsh) its the pcp n a replacement wld cost abt 1000 aed. So I decided to let things be and had a fully functioning dishwasher albeit I couldnt change the wash settings. But since my return after the holidays it stopped rinsing the dishes so I got an outside agency to replace the thermostat and it was okay. But now the pcp sound has gone off completely and they claim its the pcp and replacing it is the only solution. Sandy, so what is the current status of your dishwasher? Mine is only abt 4 years old, I had heard these last forever and ever, obviously I was wrong.

Hi ladies My dishwasher is supposedly top end, but the pcp has gone off because of water falling on the sensitive panel!. Duh! It is a dishwasher! Anyway, my question is has anyone been in this situation and have successfully had the pcp replaced. It is bosch so even the spare parts aren't cheap. I have already been advised to ensure water does not drip in the future on the replacement. Alternatively, does it make sense to buy a new one which has manual (knob) controls. Any recommendations for those, but at the same time as energy and water efficient as can be. Uff! Hope I can get some answers today or else the hubby will order the pcp which I m not in favour of. Thanks in advance.

Appreciate the feedback, I realise that it has everything to do with what expectations ee have as parents. Though, the main reason for wanting my daughter to study at o levels is the unnecessary pressures of indian curriculum. Lets see how this pans out. Thank you once again. Have a nice day.

Hi, I am going to put up a question thats been on my mind for sometime and is kinda related to this post, hope you dont mind, ST. All Indian parents, whats ur take on IB?? As a curriculum, I know it has immense advantages. I have enrolled my daughter in icse with the intention of eventually moving her to ib cos I still believe in the effective ness of the strong indian primary system. Am I right in thinking so? Also, Is there like a right time/age to make the switch? Having read on EW abt wa7ting list horror stories, I don't wanna miss the bus again.. Experienced parents pls share stories ....thks a lot. se

Hi stovetop, Could write a looong reply to your post, since we were in a similar position as you but had to choose between o level and the indian icse. Will also highlight the difference in cbse nen icse. Cbse n icse are basically similar, except in the lateir yearz, icse has grt emphasis on english (Shakespeare) while with cbse its hindi (absolute 3rd degree torture-saying it from personal experience). Coming to the schools - I was too late in getting my daughter into fs2 for sept 2013, so she has joined modern in kg1 since this april. And all I can say dunno whats the big deal abt modern. Ok they have grt facilities and campus, but...I guess I need to give this more time. I have friends whose kids attend dps and she has mixed reviews. Her boy who is academically brilliant is doing well and her daughter who is younger and more inclined to creative avenues is not happy. So imo, it finally boils down to the parents and their expectations. I loved the all round development that my daughter gained at the o level nursery she attnd. I find that now the focus is already on academics. She misses her playtime and goofing around wth friends, but then thats growing up I guess. Regarding location, modern will pick up your child even if you are living on the moon, provided you shell out the exorbitant kg bus fees.

The male mindset has to change. Women are not treated with respect, it has to start with Bollywood and its penchant for 'item numbers'. Second on my list are downright sleazy advertisements for men's deodrants, clothing etc., which make the man out to be some sort of ' **xy demi-god' with women pawning all over him!! Absolutely ridiculous. For the braveheart, I have only tears of empathy, RIP sweetheart. I hope something good comes out of this for the women in India.

very well said, Redrec. I am Indian and we pierce our ears in infancy. I can appreciate that in the western world ear piercing is not the norm hence the raised eyebrows. but please, you live your life - i live mine. lets not pass judgement on something just becos its not done in your 'culture' - who are you to decide that your culture is 'right' and mine is 'wrong'. you can express an opinion, but dont diss others. thats pure b*****.

everything said in this thread has happened to me and i have felt the same emotions - the love for the baby, the sadness, the depression, the loss of interest in physical contact, the need to have someone around who would understand without being told. miscarriages are common but at the same time, when u are going thru it - u feel so alone and helpless. its the worst place in the world to be. i've been thru 3, finally had my angel 3 yrs back and am now at peace. to all u wonderful ladies who are TTC - be patient and dont stress. for all the wonderful ladies about to have angels - SLEEP SLEEP SLEEP enjoy your day - keep smiling :)

i use RKG brand of ghee - its really grt. almost like home made. doesn't have a funny smell like amul. i have never made ghee at home - tho friends tell me that ghee from lurpak butter is the best. since you have already been down that road - perhaps u can try with a small bottle of the ready ghee.

can't recommend a doctor. you could try yoga especially pranayams to help regulate the breathing. its an amazing feeling. and helps calm the nerves as well. having said that, if you have been recommended medical attention , you should seek that too.

i subscribe to the online babytv channel. its 5$ a month and they do live streaming of all their programmes. my 2.5 daughter loves it. excellent way to introduce lil ones to numbers, shapes, concepts. go to www.babytv.com, the website is grt. very easy to subscribe. DVDs get a bit repetitive especially as they get older. hope this helps.

my daughter has been going thru something similar - she is 21 mths. developed fever last morning for no apparent reason. very lethargic like u say - no cold, no ear ache, tummy fine. gave her calpol and that brought the fever down. but it was back to 39.2 F last evening, so on doc recommen we gave her a VOLTAREN suppository last night. that has brought the fever down - tho it was stil 38F this mornin. gave her calpol again, n since then she s back to her normal self. lets hope she stays that way. fingers crossed. so i would think if ur doc can be contacted on the phone, then perhaps have a word, maybe a more effective remedy will work. hope he gets better soon.

sippycup, dont worry! little ones are amazingly reselient.really :) my 19 mth old is 9.5 kg and i have stopped thinking whether thats ok or not. transitioning from BF to solids was not an easy experience for us. wht u r feeding ur lil one is just grt. even if she finally takes in coupla tsps. mine was such a fussy eater, if u see her now - she stil is not big on quantity, but she eats wat we eat in terms of texture n spices, in fact jus plain salt does not work with her!so maybe she jus hated all the bland food she was fed durng the transiton! my baby (brat, actually) is also petite. ppl always comment on how tiny she is and they think its soooo cuuuute!!!! gawd!! its the genes, when they have to they will shoot up. i take mine to dr. vishwanathan in karama and am quite happy. hope ur appointmnt goes well and te dr puts ur mind at ease.
